For many years, a thermos has been something that neither tourists nor ordinary residents can do without. It is easy to get a hot drink with it at any time of the day, without wasting time preparing it. However, lovers of loose tea have to prepare and strain the tea in advance so that the leaves do not fall into the mug. Special thermos with a strainer will come to their aid.

general description

The thermos was invented by the German physicist A.F. Weinhold 140 years ago. It was a large glass box with two walls. Air was evacuated from the space between these walls, which allowed the temperature to remain high for longer. A few years later, another physicist, D. Dewar, replaced the box with an elongated flask with a small neck and a stopper. The Berlin entrepreneur R. Burger saw the potential in this design and launched the first thermoses on the market.

Since then, the very design of the thermos has not changed much. The glass was replaced with food-grade steel, a wooden cork with a plastic snap-on lid or a pump. And also there were special thermoses for second courses with a wider neck and, of course, thermoses for brewing tea and herbs.

This small sieve is placed at the bottom of the lid using special clips or a rubber rim. It can be easily removed and cleaned by hand.

Depending on the model and manufacturer, the strainers may have different hole diameters, but any of them will be suitable for filtering regular large leaf tea.

Model overview

Conventionally, all models of thermoses can be divided into 3 groups:

  • small - from 250 to 750 ml;
  • medium - from 750 ml to 1 l;
  • large - from 1 liter.

Small ones are designed for one person, and from a large thermos you can drink tea for a small group of friends. In addition, the larger the volume, the longer the heat stays.But you should not immediately buy the largest container, because it is not always convenient to carry it with you. It is best to find a middle ground, and pay special attention to the quality of the product. The following thermos models have good reviews.

  • Walmer Energy. An English brand that produces beautiful and high quality tableware. A small thermos with a volume of 0.4 liters for one person allows you to keep the temperature of the drink for 10-12 hours. The strainer is so dense that it allows you to filter not only ordinary tea leaves, but also coffee grounds. And its laconic design will be appreciated by both schoolchildren and employees of large offices.
  • NB-750Z. Thermos mug with a volume of 0.75 liters from the domestic manufacturer "Biostal" is made of stainless steel, has vacuum insulation. The product is closed with a special rubberized stopper that does not allow liquid to spill in a bag or backpack (and it itself can be used as a glass). Inside the cork there is a fine-mesh metal sieve that allows you to brew tea or coffee directly in a thermos.
  • "Arctic". Another domestic model of a thermos that allows you to brew tea or coffee literally on the go. Its strainer is made in the form of a small container, inside which you can put tea leaves, herbs and even berries. The narrow neck allows you to keep warm for much longer, and the 900 ml volume is perfect for making 3-4 mugs of a fragrant drink. A bright coating with a special "hammer" enamel protects the surface of the product well from chips and scratches, and a wide lid with an additional insert can be used as a container for drinking.
  • Steel Soldier Metal. A 1.1 l Chinese thermos made of high quality stainless steel is an excellent choice for a small company of hunters or fishermen. The smooth metal surface is easy to clean and is not afraid of sudden temperature changes. It is convenient not only to pour liquid into a neck of medium diameter with a removable filter, but also to lay tea leaves or ice cubes. A small strap allows you to attach the thermos to the carabiner, leaving your hands free.

Selection Tips

To make the purchase a pleasant purchase, you should follow a few simple tips both before going to the store and immediately at the time of purchase.

  • Decide in advance on the size. You should not take a thermos with a "reserve", because the more free space remains inside it, the faster the remaining drink cools. You need to immediately decide what kind of container volume is best suited.
  • Select material. The larger the volume of the thermos, the heavier it is. It is especially important to take this parameter into account when choosing equipment for long hikes, where every kilogram of burden will be important. You can compensate for the large capacity by choosing a thermos with a plastic case, not metal. True, plastic gives off heat faster, so the temperature of the drink will change faster.
  • When choosing in the store itself, you can smell the product. A quality product does not have any foreign odors.
  • The smaller the holes in the strainer, the more drinks can be brewed in such a thermos. But at the same time, it will be more difficult to clean the cells of tea leaves and coffee grounds.
  • Even a small strap or handle will significantly increase the functionality of the product., therefore, if possible, you should give preference to a more ergonomic model.

The most important thing is to check the thermos immediately after purchase. You need to pour boiling water into it and leave for 10-15 minutes. If during this time its walls have warmed up, then the tightness of the flask walls is broken.

If the surface has become only slightly warmer, the product is of high quality.
