How to make a bridal garter with your own hands?

In the image of a newlywed, everything should be stylish and beautiful, starting from the hairstyle, outfit and ending with such an important attribute as the bride's garter. Although this element of the wardrobe is hidden from prying eyes, at the end of the celebration it will definitely be in the hands of one of the guests, so it should surprise with its chic and originality. Today there is a huge selection of leg garters, they can be purchased ready-made in bridal stores, as well as sewn with your own hands, making any fantasy and design idea a reality.

A wedding garter is considered the main accessory for every bride. This small and invisible detail is the object of close attention of guests, especially males. According to tradition, a young man who is lucky enough to become the owner of a caught garter will soon marry. To give this element of the image individuality and originality, many girls prefer to make it on their own. When choosing one or another garter model, you must take into account that, depending on the decor and appearance, they can be:

• Thin. They are the most common option and are most often used as an addition to a voluminous dress, decorated with openwork inserts, ribbons and rhinestones. A thin garter will be harmoniously combined with a short outfit. It looks light, graceful and beautifully emphasizes the shape of the leg.

• Wide. They are, as a rule, chosen by the fair sex, who adore voluminous jewelry. Such accessories are usually sewn from tulle, lace and satin ribbons.They are considered classic models and are characterized by a number of advantages: they are securely fastened (do not fold or twist), they are easy to put on, and are ideal for any style of dress. If the bride's outfit contains lace decor, then you need to make sure that it is combined with the garter trim.

• Double. This type differs from the previous ones in that it is suitable for observing two traditions at the same time. One of the garters is removed by the groom at the celebration and thrown to friends as a souvenir, and the second ("honey") remains on the girl's leg until the wedding night and serves as a family heirloom. Both parts should be made in the same style, with one made wide and the other thin.

In addition, wedding garters need to be decorated with décor. Accessories look original, complemented by precious metals, stones or antique brooches. Designs with rhinestones, sequins, beads and handmade lace are also popular. Satin ribbons and artificial flowers, which are selected according to the style of the wedding bouquet, give the garters a beautiful look.

The most elegant and lightest material is lace, which is why it is considered ideal for sewing a garter. Since brides most often choose a dress and underwear with lace inserts for a wedding, a garter sewn with them in the same style will give the girl's image an unusual charm. It is recommended to use a soft material to create a lace decoration. For work, you will also need scissors, pieces of satin ribbon, goose feathers, a glue gun and threads with a needle (if sewing is planned without a sewing machine). The length of the elastic tape is selected in accordance with the volume of the newlywed's leg; for this, its wide part is preliminarily measured.

The sewing process itself is as follows.

• The prepared tape is connected at the edges and basted by hand, then stitched on a sewing machine.
• The next step is decoration, which can be done in various ways. Using a glue gun, feathers are fixed to the base of the garter, or they are replaced with other decorative elements.
• A bow cut from a satin ribbon is also attached to the base. Despite the fact that the main color in the image of the bride is white, it is recommended to complement it with details of a blue or light blue hue. Therefore, it is best to make a bow not snow-white, but blue.

• First, sketches of future flower petals are made on a sheet of thick paper. Then the sketch is transferred to the fabric and a pattern is prepared. It should be noted that the long sides of the petals are best cut diagonally through the weave of threads on the fabric.
• Then, with the help of a lighted candle, they begin to process the petals, they are heated at the edges and slightly stretched with fingers to the sides. As a result, the petals acquire a natural wavy shape. They are carefully collected into a bud, connected with small stitches. The middle of each such flower should be decorated with a bead. The flowers are sewn onto a prepared narrow lace ribbon, which will later help to place them on the finished garter.

Of course, lace and satin garters are considered the most beautiful and delicate, but if the bride knows the knitting technique, then she can create an accessory from natural threads, which, in addition to originality, has more advantages over synthetic material and will not cause irritation during the triumph. To create such a garter, you need to have a suitable pattern, thick (560 m / 100g) and thin (400 m / 100g) threads of white or another shade, a hook with a thickness of 0.6 to 0.9 cm and beads.

Since the patterns on the garter will consist of many flowers connected to each other, they must first be tied in a certain amount. For this, hook 0.9 and dense threads are used, from which air loops (4 pcs) are first drawn and combined into a ring. Then they begin to set the first row, again forming 3 air loops. The resulting ring must be braided with columns (20 pcs.), Performing crochet knitting.

For the second row, you need to cast on one air and seven normal loops, creating a single crochet. It should go through the fourth loop from the first row. The third row begins with three air loops and ten columns are created in which a yarn is made over the tops of the arches from the previous rows. As for the fourth row, only one single crochet will be present in it, with alternating air loops. As a result, you will get a beautiful flower for a wedding garter, according to the type of which 12 such items should be knitted.

In addition, you will also need to knit an openwork mesh of thin threads, in which single crochet columns are made in the first dialed loops, then five air loops and again a column.
