Fish are certainly beautiful, they are very beautiful and playful creatures. However, in the aquarium you can keep not only them, but also many interesting inhabitants. One of the striking examples of such an inhabitant is the frog. What kind of "beast" it is and how to properly care for it - let's figure it out.

Description of species

In fact, frogs that can act as pets, there are only two types.

  • Xenopus. Has an alternative name "clawed frog".
  • Hymenochirus, and if you call it easier, then "dwarf frog".

Both of these species can be very easily bred subject to certain conditions. It is very important to be able to correctly distinguish between such representatives.

You will most often find these creatures planted together in one large aquarium, but it is quite easy to tell them apart.

  • An albino, or literally a white frog with red eyes, is Xenopus. This species was bred by Russian scientists specifically for research in laboratories.
  • If you notice gray, brown stained or even olive skin, you can be sure that this is a dwarf frog.

One of the main differences between the dwarf frog is its size, which does not exceed 4 centimeters. In the case of a decorative albino frog, its size can even reach 12 centimeters, and such, most likely, will have membranes on its legs. That is why it will not be difficult to distinguish the type of pet you need from another popular species.

Relationship with fish and plants

If you want to get yourself a white aquarium frog, then it should be borne in mind that it is just insanely active, and you must be prepared for this in advance. If there are any other inhabitants in the aquarium, then they cannot be settled together with such a representative of amphibians, since he is very fond of chasing fish throughout the space. Another possible option is that the latter will be eaten, and you may not even notice it at first.

That is, albinos definitely should not be in the aquarium with domestic fish, since these frogs are very fond of meat and therefore can absorb a good part of your aquarium inhabitants. In addition, the frog is incredibly active, and therefore the soil will be dug up, and the water will become cloudy very quickly, which is often painful for most species of fish.

However, there is information about the beneficial properties of the mucus secreted by an albino - it has antibacterial properties and can cure a sick fish. Only in this case is it worth placing the unfortunate creature in the water, where the frog sat for some time, but not combining these two creatures. Otherwise, you run the risk of simply driving an already sick fish.

Due to the playfulness of the frogs, you will likely miss some, if not all, of the plants in the aquarium. These "blondes" are very fond of digging holes, pulling out plants and dragging them around the tank.

Care and maintenance

It will be necessary to take care of the habitat of such creatures regularly, because because of their nature, white frogs often dig soil, which causes clouds of sand in the water. But none of their representatives are pretentious about the conditions of detention, and therefore you can safely keep them in any aquarium, but preferably with a volume of at least 20 liters.

For To make your inhabitants feel comfortable, do not fill the aquarium with water completely - it is worth leaving a little oxygen.

The best option is to fill the container two thirds full.

It is highly advisable to close the aquarium from above, since its very active inhabitants can jump out. It is worth putting pebbles on the bottom, pebbles are the best option. The water will need to be filtered, but do not create too much current, otherwise the frogs will find it uncomfortable to swim. As for lighting, there are no preferences in this regard, it is not at all necessary to have bright light sources.

About water temperature: similar enough in the room. In this case, the ideal would be around 23 degrees. If you are collecting tap water, then you need to defend it for about 3 days beforehand. Change this water at least once a week for a quarter of the total.

If you plan on planting plants, then only use pots, because, as already mentioned, if you try to plant directly in the ground, frogs will dig everything up right away. You can also place pots of plants next to the aquarium, and put only small areas in the water.

So the water will not quickly become polluted, and no harm will be done to the plant.

What to feed?

The white frog is very fond of live food. It can be both worms and daphnia. Sometimes pets can be fed meat food, cut into small pieces.

What can they get sick with?

Like any living creature, a white frog can "catch" some kind of disease.

  • First of all, your funny and active resident can get parasites. They make the skin rough and thin. In addition, it will peel off, and the pet will begin to ache and lose weight.
  • Fungus may appear on the frog. Most often, it starts with a sore on the skin, but then it can grow throughout the body.
  • Infections with bacteria are possible, due to which bruises will be visible on the body.
  • The most surprising of the existing misfortunes is the bloating of the toad. This is called dropsy; from such a disease, the creature can even become round.
  • If conditions are not suitable for keeping these animals, they can become obese.

It is necessary to get rid of such diseases by means that are used to treat fish in a tropical climate. The main thing is to choose the right drug so that it is specifically against fungi, parasites or bacteria. If we talk about dropsy, then you can just pierce the skin.

A sick frog should be separated from the rest and only then, in quarantine, treatment should be carried out.

In any case, even with these possible options, the creature itself is quite resilient, and recovery will come quickly.
