Many of us have or have a fish tank at one time or another. Some people buy it for decoration, while others simply because of their love for waterfowl. Guppies are one of the most common types of fish due to the fact that they are extremely unpretentious and have a rather attractive color. This species belongs to viviparous, and the calf, which is called a fry, is born almost fully formed.

Often the correct development of all living beings depends on nutrition. How to care for small guppies, what and how to feed - we will tell you in this article.

Care, nutrition and maintenance in the early days

At the beginning of their life, only born guppies are transferred from a common aquarium to another container, where adults cannot harm the fry. For newborn inhabitants, 5-6 meals a day are required, but care must be taken to ensure that all the food is eaten at one time in order to avoid the settling of food residues. This significantly increases the nitrogen content, which is dangerous for guppies and can lead to their death. As for the volume of food, then fry eat much less compared to adults. And you need dry food rub thoroughly between fingers to a powder.

In the first couple of weeks the light should be on constantly... It is during this period of time that the fry grow rapidly. Only after 3 months, already grown fish can be moved to their relatives without fear for their safety. Initially, guppies receive an amount of food that exceeds their weight by 60%. After 2-3 weeks, their diet begins to balance, and the rest of the time they consume only 15-20% of their weight.

Only after birth, the fish are fed with "live dust" or microscopic organisms. These can be ciliates, colovrats, microscopic worms, and others.

Homemade food

Professionals in their field give preference to natural feed, because it is very important to choose the right feed. First of all, it is safer and simpler, because a person knows how much and what he added, and what is left. After 2 weeks, the feeding frequency is reduced to 4 times. The diet is supplemented with a variety of supplements in the form of crushed moths, nematodes, tubuleworms and microworms.

When babies grow up a little egg yolk is added to the diet. Knead it and add it to a gauze patch, after diluting it a little with water from the aquarium. Then they are dipped in water and shaken to release egg dust, which will become food for marine life.

At home, guppies are not averse to trying an omelet. When cooking, oatmeal or nettle and 50 milliliters of boiling milk are added to the egg, after which the dish can be offered to small residents of the aquarium.

Also suitable as a top dressing milk powder, which is obtained after evaporation of milk in a water bath. Sour milk, which is obtained with boiling water, which helps to coagulate milk protein, is also acceptable for feeding guppy fry. The feeding itself takes place through a net, periodically shake it to drop out small particles.

It is also possible to add processed or hard cheese to the diet, which is grated and allowed to dry a little. This feed is given in small quantities so as not to spoil the quality of the water.

It is equally important that the fry also have access to plant foods, whether raised at home or not. In any aquarium phytoplankton, that is, microscopic algae, lives. It is ideal for babies as food, as the particle size ranges from 0.02 to 1 millimeter. In fact, growing algae is not at all difficult, for this you need to pour water from the aquarium into a container and expose it to sunlight. By these actions, we activate the process of photosynthesis, which contributes to the active growth of plants.

In the winter season, when there is very little sunlight, it will come to the rescue an ordinary lamp. You just need to carefully monitor that so that the water does not overheat. After the liquid turns green, it can be added to the aquarium, where the inhabitants of the underwater world will eat it with pleasure.
