The homeland of the aquarium thorn is the South American continent, where it lives in Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and other countries, preferring small rivers and calm water flow. The tetras family lives in an aquarium for about 4 years, but with proper maintenance and proper care. Besides the fact that the fish is easy to care for, it also attracts aquarists by the fact that it has a bright and interesting color of the scales, achieved by artificial injections. Since the thorns is an unpretentious and peaceful fish, aquarists happily turn it on. You just need to first find out with what animals it can be kept in the same aquarium, and for whom it is absolutely not suitable as a neighbor.

Character traits

In an aquarium, thorns is a fairly mobile individual. She has a peaceful and kind disposition, so she easily gets along with many types of fish. He prefers to live in a flock, therefore, it is necessary to populate the thorns in the aquarium with a company of relatives in the amount of 6-8 pieces. One fish requires 10 liters of water volume, so for more of these inhabitants of the aquarium, the volume of water increases in accordance with the specified rate. Pets love to swim - thorns do it very actively, and therefore, when planting vegetation, you need not to overdo it with its amount.

The body length of the thorns is about 6 cm, the ridge is overestimated, has an elongated shape. Females are larger in size. Spawning occurs at the moment when the fish reaches 4 cm. The thorns of the classic appearance has a grayish-black color, and on the sides it has black stripes, the same stripes are near the anal fins. The fish occupies a large area because of its fin - it looks like a skirt.

Thornsia is omnivorous, eats plant and animal feed. The fish is undemanding and hardy, which is just right for beginners who want to start an aquarium with fish. Thorncia is a schooling fish, so living alone will not bring her anything other than suffering.

In the company of his fellows, the term is peaceful. But if she lives in the reservoir alone, she will become aggressive and nervous.

Who do the thorns get along with?

The compatibility of these fish with the inhabitants of the marine world depends on what species the neighbors live with. It is a bad idea to house pets with miniature, aggressive or large fish, as well as with veiled tails. The large wavy fins of the veil tails will attract the attention of active thorns, which will not fail to bite their tails and chase them throughout the aquarium. But there are those types of fish that are great for living together with thorns.

A favorable neighborhood with the following representatives of the aquarium fauna can be distinguished: neon, swordtails, iris, mollies, pecilia, cardinal, ancistrus, barbus, thorns, tetra, guppy, rasbora, zebrafish. All of these fish can be kept in the same thorny tank without worrying about the peace of mind of your personal underwater community. You can add a fish such as mollies to tetras, but preferably not one, but several pieces - for example, a female and a male.

Limited compatibility of thornsia with macropod, melanochromis, flashlight, cichlazoma, lalius. That is, it is possible to keep these fish with thorns, but as a last resort, constantly monitoring the situation. An ideal neighborhood is guaranteed with cardinals, catfish, zebrafish and swordtails. These fish have an amazing feature - depending on environmental conditions, they can change in color, for example, black individuals can instantly become transparent.

You need to plant plants in the aquarium, choosing them carefully. After all, each type of fish has its own preferences. It is important to create such conditions so that all fish are comfortable in the tank.

Who are they not compatible with?

Thorncia gets along with many representatives of the marine world, but you should know that it is absolutely impossible to keep it in a tank along with cichlids, notobranchs, trophies - the fish can bite other individuals.

Black thorns sometimes arrange fights even between individuals of their own species. Usually they are harmless, but sometimes an unpleasant thing can occur - and the fins of the fish will be damaged. Experienced aquarists are advised to avoid living with sluggish fish, because the former is inherent in activity. As a result, calm fish will remain hungry, since tetras will not allow them to eat peacefully.

It is better not to combine thorns with small fish, as well as those with large fins. They will nibble on the fins of other fish, severely damaging them. In addition, shrimp should not be added to the thorns, because the fish can simply eat it. Large and territorial cichlids - zebras, eleots, yellows - are also not suitable for cohabitation with tetras.

What should be considered when adding fish?

For a comfortable life of a fish in an aquarium, it needs relatives - it is better to immediately settle several thorns in the tank. Sometimes they chase each other, but loneliness negatively affects black tetras. It is not so important whether they are settled in a new aquarium, where there is still no one else, or to other fish - they need individuals of their own species.

In addition, if you want to get some kind of slow fish, which has average compatibility with thorns, then the latter, focusing on the fish of their biofield, will not cause any trouble. Less active and calm neighbors may feel quite comfortable, since tetras will not interfere with their normal existence.

For a comfortable stay of all fish, you should select a large aquarium - no one will feel cramped, everyone will have enough space.

Goldfish are characterized by slowness, in addition, they have large fins, which makes the neighborhood with tetras incompatible. Golden beauties eat smaller fish, and they also have different conditions of detention. Danios are colored fluorescent fish that come in red, orange, purple, and other colors. They are surprisingly hardy and unpretentious, great for being close to tetras.

For zebrafish glofish, an aquarium of 40 liters or more is required, because it is recommended to keep these fish in groups, like thorns. This is worth considering. In addition, this type of fish prefers warm water - at least 27 degrees, which is just ideal for joint keeping with tetras.

Whichever fish you choose to decorate your aquarium - remember that each species has its own preferences, living conditions and quirks. Sometimes people are surprised that some fish are missing from the aquarium. But the point is that the neighborhood was initially chosen incorrectly. If you pay attention to all the nuances, keep and mix the fish in the tank correctly, then the fish will live a long time and not cause trouble.
