How to tie an amigurumi dog?
Amigurumi art came to us from distant Japan. This country has long been famous for its love of miniature products. It is not surprising that it was there that the technique of knitting small toys was born. Gradually, amigurumi fell in love all over the world.
Young mothers delight children with their own hand-made toys. Experienced craftswomen hone their skills by performing increasingly complex figures. Finally, all knitters had the opportunity to please their loved ones with a cute souvenir. It is worth to be curious and get acquainted with the peculiarities of this handicraft art on the example of the amigurumi dog.
Peculiarities
Even a beginner knitter can knit a dog from yarn. However, amigurumi has a number of features that are unique to this style.
- Miniature. The size of an amigurumi dog can be 1 cm, but should not exceed 50 cm.
- Cuteness. Amigurumi are toys with a mood. The craftswoman should give expressiveness to the eyes and muzzle of the dog. At first glance, it should be clear what kind of mood this toy carries: joy, sadness, sadness or thoughtfulness.
- Disproportionate. Amigurumi dogs are distinguished by their large head, small body and short or elongated legs.
- Knitting technique. Amigurumi toys are crocheted in a circle without making seams. As a result, the craftswoman gets a dense canvas. The details of the toy are stuffed with filler and connected by means of threads or hinges.
Tools and materials
It is worth starting work on an amigurumi dog with the selection of materials. First of all, we are talking about the yarn from which it is planned to make a toy. If you intend to make a miniature dog, it is better to stay on the "iris" thread. Incredibly soft acrylic yarn is perfect for a child's toy. There are no villi on it that the baby can accidentally swallow. Woolen threads will make the product heavy, and the furry "grass" will help create a fluffy dog. Cotton thread will result in an incredibly durable product.
The type of yarn for knitting should be chosen based on your experience. It will be easier for beginner knitters to make a toy out of woolen thread, and experienced needlewomen will certainly want to experiment.
When the yarn is selected, you should pick up the crochet hook. The hook number should match the thickness of the yarn. It is allowed to take a hook one size smaller to make a dense canvas. Then the toy will retain its shape for a long time, and the filler will not climb out of the loops. As a filler, you will need a synthetic winterizer or holofiber. These materials do not clump, and the product is very soft. It is worth buying threads with which the details will be sewn, and sharp scissors (if there are none at home).
The final stage is the purchase of decorative elements: a peephole, a nose, beads, felt and leather appliqués. It is believed that all materials must be purchased at the same time. But the creative process is unpredictable. Perhaps the needlewoman will want to deviate from the given templates and add something of her own to the finished scheme. Therefore, it is better to come to the store with a ready-made dog and pick up the necessary decorations for it.
Master classes
Even a novice needlewoman will quickly figure out how to knit a funny amigurumi toy. The essence of this knitting technique is simple: all knitting is done in a circle or oval with single crochet columns.
When the next round is completed, an increase in loops is made. For a start, you should practice crocheting even circles and ovals. Once everything works out, you can start knitting dogs. Moreover, you can tie not only a purebred puppy, but also a noble thoroughbred dog. The knitting technique differs depending on the breed.
Dachshund
- All parts are knitted in a spiral. First, the head is made: they dial six loops and close in a circle, and then knit with single crochet.
- On the second row, add six loops, in each subsequent row up to the fifth row - two loops.
- 6-11 knit in single crochet. In the 12th and 13th rows, six loops are reduced. In the 14th row, three loops are added, the 15th is knitted.
- 16-17 - decrease three loops each and fill.
- 18 is knitted without changes.
- At 19–21, three loops are reduced.
- 22 - six loops are knitted, six loops are added in the 23rd row.
- 24 - six loops are reduced. In all subsequent rows, the loops are reduced to close. The thread must be cut and hidden inside the part.
The body of the future dachshund is knitted in the same way. Only increases of six loops are performed from the third to the sixth row.
- 7-8 is knitted with single crochet, and in row 9 and row 11, 6 loops are reduced.
- At 14, 3 loops are reduced.
- 15-22 are knitted with single crochets.
- At 23, a decrease in three loops is performed, at 24 - six.
- Six loops of the 24th row are knitted with single crochets. Decreases are made before closing. Cut the thread and hide it inside the part.
To tie the ears, add six loops in the second row, and three in the third. The fifth and sixth rows are knitted with the decrease of three loops. The seventh to tenth rows are knitted with single crochets. In the 11th row, a decrease in three loops is performed. The part is folded in half and stitched together. The thread is hidden inside the part.
Paws are made as follows: in the second row and the third, add six loops. The fourth to fifth rows are knitted with single crochet columns. In the sixth row, two loops are subtracted, in the seventh - three. The next two rows are knitted and the part is tightly stuffed with filler. In the 12th row, a decrease by three loops is performed and subtracted before closing.
The tail is knitted in a circle with single crochets. You should get 5 rows. The thread is fastened, neatly cut and hidden inside the product. All parts are neatly sewn together. First the head is sewn, then the ears, nose and eyes. After that, the paws and tail are sewn, and a bow or beads are tied around the neck. The dachshund is ready. This scheme is universal. It can be used to make both a small keychain and a cushion. It all depends on the skill of the needlewoman and the tasks that she has set for herself.
The bull terrier is knitted in the same way. According to the description, the muzzle and paws need to be made massive, and the body short. This dog is famous for its aggression, but the cute plush yarn puppy will win any heart.
Spitz
The fluffy spitz resembles a sly fox in many ways. Therefore, you need to knit it like a fox. But since this is a cute fluffy dog, it is worth knitting with long pile yarn.
- Cast on six air loops for the head.
- Rows 2-13 - add six stitches.
- 14-23 are knitted with single crochet.
- From 24 to 30, six loops are reduced.
- Fill the head with filler.
- On the 31st row, they make a decrease in six loops and begin to knit the muzzle. For the muzzle, it is better to pick up a regular woolen thread.
- 32-34 are knitted with single crochet.
- 35 - decrease by six loops. 36-39 knit as usual.
- 40 - Decrease six loops and fill the muzzle with filler.
- 41 - knit, 42 - decrease six loops, 43 - decrease four loops. Stuff the rest of the muzzle.
- Decrease hinges until the hole is completely closed.
The body for a Spitz is knitted similarly to the body of a dachshund. Only the craftswoman has to make it wider.
The rest of the knitting principle does not change. That is why amigurumi toys are so simple, and their creation is possible even for beginners!
