Applications in the form of hedgehogs
Hedgehogs are very interesting and cute animals that cause genuine emotions not only in children, but also in adults. It is not at all surprising that such a charming animal becomes an inspiration for creativity, and its image is used in painting, modeling and other manifestations, for example, when making appliqués. Let's take a closer look at how and from what materials an applique in the form of a hedgehog can be made, as well as what to use for additional decor.
How to make from paper?
Perhaps the most affordable, easy-to-use and widespread material for making an applique is paper. You can cut out the necessary elements from it, create three-dimensional shapes or use it in any other way. There is also a wide variety of colored paper, differing in density, texture and even decor, which cannot but increase the scope for a flight of creative imagination.
Thanks to the versatility of paper, you can cut out faces of different shapes, make blanks for the image of an animal with an apple or mushrooms on its back. You can also show your imagination and depict a hedgehog in the forest or in a flower meadow.
Try to make several options with your own hands, and you will understand that the process can be fun not only for kids, but also for adults.
Simple
There are several ways to make a simple paper hedgehog applique. Let's consider the most common ones.
- The first method is perhaps the easiest, suitable even for the smallest. It is necessary to draw the outlines of a hedgehog or find a ready-made version, and then carefully cut out only two parts from paper of different colors: the body and the part denoting the needles.Then you need to pick up a sheet of paper or cardboard, which will serve as a background, and glue the body with needles. After that, using a marker or felt-tip pen, draw the hedgehog's eyes, nose and mouth. Also, the craft can be supplemented with fruits, berries and mushrooms cut from paper, or you can draw them yourself.
- The second method is also quite simple, but more interesting for children.... We also need only two details of different colors: an elongated half of a dark brown oval and a light narrow rectangular strip. One of the ends of the strip must be shaped into a triangle, after which this end must be bent and draw the muzzle of a hedgehog on it. At the edges of the half of the oval, we make shallow cuts in the desired amount - these will be the needles of a hedgehog. Then we glue the half of the oval onto a sheet of cardboard or paper, and attach the body on top. You can also complement the applique with hedgehog paws and various gifts of autumn.
- The third way is more time consuming and entertaining.... To complete the craft in this way, we also need the outline of a hedgehog, but unlike the previous options, we need to completely cut out only a part of the body with the animal's muzzle. You can trace the outline with a brown felt-tip pen and outline the eyes and nose. We will use small details as needles: squares, rhombuses and polygons, cut out of paper and also outlined along the contour. First, we glue paper needles on the background in the form of a prickly part of the body, and then we attach the muzzle.
To make the work more fun and interesting, you can use two colors of paper, decorate the edges with a darker one, and refuse a felt-tip pen.
Volumetric
You can also create a voluminous hedgehog out of paper in several ways. For example, arrange the applique so that the forest dweller looks directly or shows us his thorny barrel. Consider the option where the hedgehog's face is looking directly at us.
For work we need the following materials:
- colored paper in two shades: light and dark;
- cardboard or paper that will serve as the background for the applique;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- scissors;
- glue stick or PVA glue;
- black marker or felt-tip pen;
- You can also use the plastic eyes from the kids' art kits.
After you have prepared everything you need, you can get to work. To create a voluminous hedgehog, we have to act in stages.
- At the first stage, you need to cut the darker paper into strips along the short border, the width of which should not be more than 5 cm, after which the strips must be folded in half, slightly pressing the fold line, and glue the free ends together.
- Then we glue the resulting parts in the form of an arc on a sheet of paper, which is the background. You can stick them in several rows for a more voluminous applique. This is how the needles of our hedgehog will look.
- The next step is to make the body out of light-colored paper. To do this, cut out one large round-shaped piece, as well as two small halves of the oval, which will be the legs of the animal.
- Next, you need to roughly outline the location of the body, after which we first glue the legs, and already on top - the main part.
- When the glue dries up a little, we can proceed to further design: we draw the nose and mouth of the hedgehog, and use special details as eyes.
They can also be drawn with a felt-tip pen or made of paper, but plastic eyes for creativity will make the craft more lively and interesting.
Cliff
The name of the technique in this case speaks for itself, and you can easily guess that to create an applique, you need to use small pieces of torn colored paper. To create an applique using this method, you will need:
- paper of different colors;
- cardboard or paper to create a background;
- glue;
- pencil and marker.
As mentioned earlier, you need to tear the colored paper into small pieces, after which you need to create the boundaries of the future applique by drawing an approximate outline of the hedgehog's figure. As a rule, the muzzle of the animal is not glued - you just need to mark the nose, eyes and mouth of the animal on it. The paper is only used to fill in the needle portion and paws. You can glue the pieces evenly close together, or you can leave some gaps and fill them with a second layer of paper needles.
This will make the applique look more rich and naturalistic. Finally, you can add apples, mushrooms or berries to the back of the hedgehog, also decorated with pieces of paper... And for a livelier look, you can use the same technique to style your background canvas.
From the accordion
Making a hedgehog from a paper accordion is a fairly simple technique that even the smallest can master. In this case, we need all the same materials as for the previously described methods. It will also be necessary to create an outline, but not the entire hedgehog, but only his muzzle. Do not forget to mark the eyes, nose and mouth of the animal with a marker. Next, let's start creating the needles. To do this, you need to take a sheet of colored paper and line it from one short edge to another. The lines should be about 1-1.5 cm wide.
After ruling, you need to bend the paper sheet along the outlined folds in the direction from each other - in the end, you should get an "accordion", which needs to be bent in half, forming a kind of fan. In order for the resulting fan to be solid, it is necessary to glue together two free edges that are in contact with each other when bent. After that, we glue the hedgehog's face on the background sheet of paper, and then fix the resulting accordion in the place where the needles should be.
The application can also be supplemented with any elements related to the animal's habitat.
Crafts from natural materials
Natural materials are also great for making beautiful and unusual crafts.... For example, applications from cones and leaves can easily be done independently by children 5-6 years old, and products from burdock will be interesting for children 3 - 4 years old, but it is best to make them with the help of parents.
From the leaves
A hedgehog made of leaves is a great option for crafts on the theme of "Autumn" for school or kindergarten. To make it, you will need the following materials:
- autumn leaves;
- glue;
- paper;
- pencils or markers.
Before using the leaves, they must be prepared, since freshly harvested foliage is not entirely suitable for decorative purposes.... First you need to wipe the leaves from dirt and dust, then dry and iron them through a thick cloth. It is best to take yellowed, but not yet completely dried leaves, as they will crumble and break. On a previously prepared sketch, you need to glue the leaves, forming the prickly part of the hedgehog. The muzzle can be marked with colored pencils.
Also, the craft can be supplemented with dry rowan clusters or dried flowers.
Burdock
It is quite simple to make a voluminous figure from burdock - you just need to connect the thorns to each other, forming an oval body. The muzzle is easiest to mold from plasticine and fix it at the base of the body with a match or toothpick. Things are a little more complicated with flat appliqué, since burdock spines by themselves do not stick to paper, and simple glue can hardly help with this. The best option is to use a glue gun, which can be purchased at any stationery or hardware store, like all accessories for it.
To make the applique, you also need to draw a sketch of the animal's body, indicating the muzzle and the part where the needles will be located. It is best to paint it in advance, as it will be very difficult to do this with glued plant thorns. HTo make the applique more accurate, we recommend using glue sticks of the same color as the sketch of the body or the burdock itself. A small amount of glue must be applied to a thorn thorn, after which it must be immediately fixed on the sketch until the heated glue has cooled down. The same steps must be repeated with the rest of the details until all the necessary space is filled.
Cones
There are several ways to make a hedgehog from cones.
- For example, you need to stick a small piece of plasticine to the flat base of the cone, then form a muzzle with a pointed nose out of it. Let's supplement the muzzle with eyes and a nose made of dark plasticine, as well as bunches of greenery fixed between the scales of the cone, and our craft is ready.
- You can also use plasticine or clay to make a large hedgehog. It is necessary to form a completely hedgehog shape from the sculpting mass. If you use plasticine, then you should not be afraid of solidification of the mass, and in the case of clay, you need to fix the bumps on the back as soon as possible. After the mass has completely solidified, all parts will be securely fixed.
- You can also make a more complex craft. To do this, you need to make a base in the form of a hedgehog's body from some dense material, such as foam. Then you need to divide the cone into scales and glue them onto the prepared form in the back area.
To decorate the animal's face, we recommend using straw, burlap or material with dense fibers.
Fabric options
When working with fabric, you can make not just an applique, but even a real toy. Consider several options for crafts in the form of hedgehogs from fabrics. As with paper, we need a piece of cardboard for the background, on which the sketch of the animal is drawn.
From fabric of different colors, you need to cut out a part of the muzzle and needles. You will also need dark material for the nose, eyes and paws. All parts must be connected on a background sheet of cardboard, fixing them with glue.
To make a flat craft in the form of a small toy, we need a soft cloth. You can use fleece or thin felt. As in the case of the applique, you need to cut out parts of the face and body, the only difference is that they will be needed in duplicate. The parts are sewn together by hand or on a sewing machine. And to make the craft useful, you can turn it into an educational toy for children by sewing on buttons, hooks, buttons and lacing, also complementing the appropriate details.
There is another option for a simple craft for those who know how or are just learning to sew. From a dense woolen fabric, you need to cut out a small detail in the form of an oval with small ears - this will be the body of a hedgehog. An oval-shaped part with slots slightly larger than the previous one is made of the same dark-colored material. We place the smaller part in the center with the large one and sew it with neat stitches. It remains only to embroider the muzzle and other additional details on the product.
More ideas
There are also many other ways to make a hedgehog applique. Many of them are suitable even for toddlers, therefore they are actively used as part of the creative process of the kindergarten. Let's take a closer look at the most interesting and unusual ideas.
Buckwheat
To make an applique in the form of a buckwheat hedgehog, we also need to prepare a sketch in the form of an animal outline. You can pre-designate all the details of the face and separate the elements that should not be filled with buckwheat.
The needle-like part of the body must be covered with a thin layer of glue and the buckwheat groats should be evenly distributed on it, slightly pressing it. Part of the muzzle can also be filled with cereals, but lighter, for example: rice, bulgur or millet. In some cases, paint, pencils or wax crayons are used to decorate the face and other small details.
From seeds
For the application with seeds, you can use a ready-made hedgehog pattern with the designation and decoration of all the main elements. On the area where the needles should be, you need to stick the seeds in such a way that their pointed end looks up or to the side. You can overlap the seeds, creating the effect of volumetric needles.
In addition, handicrafts are very often made from stones, using grass, moss, sand and other natural materials.
