How to use an essential oil burner?
In modern times, aromatherapy has gained great popularity. Saturation of the indoor air with aromatic essential oils has a beneficial effect on the emotional state of a person, has a healing and health-improving effect.
How to use a candle lamp?
An aroma lamp is a device designed for faster evaporation of essential oils. The classic version has a removable bowl or a small cup-shaped recess, in the lower part, usually of a spherical or cylindrical shape, there is a niche for heating. The structure is heated with a small candle.
The material of manufacture can be very different:
- ceramics;
- stone;
- metal;
- glass;
- combined options.
The most affordable and commonly found on the market are ceramic options. The variety of shapes and sizes, colors and designs makes such an acquisition attractive. A characteristic feature of the products is that they heat up quickly.
Stone stones are very popular in India, they are carved from valuable rocks. Aromatherapy connoisseurs prefer this option. Advantages - they do not heat up and the aromatic compositions warm up very slowly, they retain heat for a long time. It is believed that the stone helps to reveal aromas brighter.
Metallic ones are very graceful, the best ones are those made of stainless steel. Suitable for high-tech interiors, and hand-forged for designs in oriental style.
Glass lamps have an aesthetic appearance, but low-quality glass can burst if overheated. The painted glass becomes discolored due to overheating.
A safer type of glass is the incense burner. The bottle is filled with a fragrant composition based on alcohol, inside there is a thick wick that rises to the burner. The wick is impregnated with a fragrant mixture, then it is set on fire. The alcohol reacts with a catalyst on the neck of the vessel - catalytic combustion occurs without an open flame. As a result, the aromatic compounds, rising to the center of the burner, begin to evaporate. To terminate the procedure, a tight cap is put on, which extinguishes the flame.
Well-known perfume brands produce such incense burners in stylish bottles, a burner with a wick is included in the kit.
Let's consider how to choose a classic aroma lamp.
- It is preferable to choose lamps with a bowl of about 30 ml or more, the heating process will take place more evenly.
- It is better that the bowl is removable, so it is more convenient to wash it after use.
- The optimal product is considered in which the distance between the lower part of the niche and the bottom of the water tank will be 13-14 cm, then there will be about 10 cm between the flame and the heated surface.
The aroma lamp should be used correctly:
- warm water is poured into the device, then essential oil is added (but not into an empty bowl);
- a small candle is placed in the lower part (preferably a tea candle);
- the wick must be ignited, the mixture, when heated, will begin to evaporate;
- heated to 45-60 ° C, a higher temperature promotes intensive evaporation of the oil;
- add warm water if necessary;
- do not leave a burning candle under an empty bowl.
Before the procedure, it is recommended to ventilate the room, and then close the windows and doors. For the first test session, 2-3 drops of essence are enough - you need to check what the body's reaction to the new composition will be.
Traditionally, it is recommended to calculate the dosage as follows: 6 drops of an essential product are taken per 15 m2. Still, it is better to follow the instructions that come with the bottle of fragrant oil. The manual contains information on dosage, possible allergies and adverse reactions to the composition.
The first time, the duration of the aroma lamp should be 10-20 minutes.
Using electrical models
A more modern option is an electric aroma lamp. The device works from an outlet or on batteries, which makes it more functional and safe. Usually such options are made of plastic, there are wood and glass products combined. The liquid bowl is large enough. In such devices, the vaporized aromatic compositions will be cleaner, without the admixture of a heated candle. Electric lamps can be backlit and original decor.
During operation, you must adhere to the instructions for using the device.
General recommendations look like this:
- water is poured into the container, then aromatic additives;
- included in the network;
- if there is no timer, then turn off after 20 minutes;
- it is necessary to monitor the level of liquid in the tank.
In electrical appliances, the heating of the liquid occurs more evenly. The large container for short sessions is half or one third full. Never add cold water - only warm water. Do not leave an empty bowl when the appliance is connected to the mains.
There are devices designed to vaporize essential oils without adding water.
- Ultrasonic - ethereal aromas spread in the air due to ultrasonic vibrations.
- Ring - have the form of a hollow ring into which the aromatic mixture is poured. The ring is fixed to an incandescent lamp; when heated, the essence begins to evaporate.
- USB - the device with aromatic essence is connected to a personal computer like a flash card.
- Salt - the tank is carved from a solid salt crystal, an electric lamp is placed inside. When heated, salt crystals begin to ionize the air in the room, the device is used to treat lung diseases.
The advantages of electric aroma lamps:
- you can control the heating temperature and oil consumption;
- safe option: the device does not overheat, there is no risk of fire;
- additional features: illumination, ionization and air humidification;
- absence of impurities in the aroma, for example, candle burning.
Some lamps run on AA or AAA batteries. Such a device can be taken with you on a trip, in a car, or on a visit. The lamps can be equipped with a timer to control the duration of the aroma session.
The price of electrical appliances is significantly higher than the cost of classic varieties.
Follow-up care
The aromatherapy session is over, now you need to remove the product.
- The lamp is allowed to cool.
- A candle is removed from an ordinary classic product. The electrical is disconnected from the network.
- In the classic variety, soot and wax are removed from the surface with a wooden spatula.
- The bowl is washed: it should be easy to remove (this is especially important for electrical appliances).
- Never wash a hot product under cold water, the material may crack.
- Wash with soap, then rinse with a solution of vinegar.
- To eliminate the smell of an aromatic product, they are cleaned with soda, rubbed with vinegar or alcohol.
- Dry in a dry warm place or with a hairdryer.
Helpful hints
There are a few simple safety rules to follow:

For spacious rooms, a nursery or an office, a safe electrical option is suitable. In small areas - in the bathroom, in the massage room - a classic design is installed to create a relaxing atmosphere. Use with caution in the kitchen: the smell of aromatic essences can unpredictably mix with the smell of food.
