Balayage dyeing technique allows you to quickly and easily make an image bright, spectacular and sometimes unexpected. It is no coincidence that this particular technique is preferred by most blondes.

Peculiarities

The balayage technique appeared back in the 70s of the last century in Paris. This coloring is a special two-tone coloration with a smooth border between the shades. Translated from French, the name of the technique means "revenge" - and in fact, the applied paint is simply swept away to the ends of the hair, as a result, the transition between natural and colored curls becomes almost imperceptible and it seems that the hairstyle has simply burned out in the hot summer sun. Usually, the hair is lightened by no more than 3 tones, therefore the effect is as natural and natural as possible.

One of the main advantages of the technique is that the hair, growing back, does not lose its aesthetic appearance for a long time. - as it grows, the border between the native and dyed strands does not strike the eye for quite a long time, which means that the color correction should be resorted to no more than once every three months. This makes the coloring gentle and safe for curls.

Balayazh looks best on blondes. Here you can choose from a wide variety of shades - from caramel to strawberry. Thanks to this, on hair of any tone, you can create additional visual volume and soft play.

Balayage is often confused with ombre. Visually, they are a bit similar, but from a technical point of view, there are quite a few differences between them.Ombre is a step-by-step coloring, when the effect of a gradual dissolution of a dark shade into a lighter one is created, while the color of the roots differs significantly from the color of the tips. When balayage, only a few strands are affected, and the difference between the darkest and lightest shades is minimal.

The means used by colorists also differ. Ombre is most often done using a bleaching powder, which allows you to lighten the strands as much as possible, while balayage on blond hair does not require preliminary etching, due to which minimal damage is caused to the hair during coloring. In addition, when performing balayage, foil is not used, therefore, there is no risk of damage to curls due to exposure to temperatures - and this is another advantage of balayage over ombre.

Other advantages of the technique include:

  • pronounced rejuvenating effect - soft overflows of shades allow you to visually throw off from 3 to 5 years;
  • coloring does not affect the roots, which keeps the hair follicles intact;
  • technology makes it possible to quickly and effectively change your image without introducing any radical changes into it;
  • dyeing is universal - it looks good on long and short strands, on straight and curly, thick or thin, on relatives or pre-dyed;
  • balayazh has no age restrictions - it looks equally impressive on both young girls and ladies of a more mature age;
  • coloring allows you to hide minor gray hair, visually corrects the oval of the face, refreshes the skin color and emphasizes the depth of the eyes.

Choice of shades

In order for the balayazh on blond hair to look as effective and natural as possible, you should take care in advance that the selected colors create a soft transition on the curls that does not catch the eye, but at the same time makes the look more sophisticated and refined.

Usually, for coloring, a paint is selected that differs by 2-3 tones from the natural shade of the hair, as well as one or two tinting agents for decorating transitions.

Usually, for coloring balayage, they use the same sets that are suitable for ombre, but you need to work with them more carefully, be sure to follow the instructions in order to make the transition softer - sharp gradients are not allowed here.

When choosing a shade for coloring, you should be guided by your own taste preferences. But don't forget about factors such as complexion and eye color. The natural shade and general condition of the hair greatly influences how your hairstyle will look after dyeing.

The following color combinations are considered the most successful:

  • for women of the "summer" type, you should pay attention to pearl and ash shades, the tips painted in the color of hazelnut look beautiful;
  • for the owners of the "winter" color type, platinum or silver tones are suitable, and on the tips they often do toning in chocolate or wine shades;
  • "Autumn" dictates its own rules, natural and sunny bronding is appropriate here, but chestnut tones look spectacular on the ends;
  • for ladies with a "spring" type of appearance, beige or natural blond is suitable.

Eye color also plays an important role. For example, for the fair sex with light blue as well as gray eyes, caramel, light blond, wheat and white-pearl shades are most suitable, but brown-eyed ones should be given preference to wheat, honey and copper shades.

Technique for dyeing hair of different lengths

Balayage dyeing is best obtained in salons, where a professional master can correctly choose the optimal shade and, at the same time, apply the dye formulations correctly so that the overflows are as natural as possible.

However, if you wish, you can do coloring on your own at home. To do this, prepare everything you need for work:

  • a comb with sparse teeth;
  • brush;
  • a bowl for mixing coloring paste;
  • plastic gloves;
  • weak hold hairspray;
  • clamps.

And, of course, you will need paint, shampoo and conditioner balm.

The dyeing technique differs slightly depending on the length of the hair.

Short

It is very simple to do balayazh on a short heap. The step-by-step painting scheme is as follows:

  • hair must be divided into strands and combed with a comb so that they stick up;
  • the combed mop should be divided into several zones of approximately the same size;
  • if the curls do not obey and fall, then they need to be additionally sprinkled with varnish;
  • dilute the paint in a bowl and thoroughly smear the hair without affecting the root zone;
  • after 20-30 minutes the head is washed with shampoo and conditioner is applied.

Balayazh is ready - you just have to comb your hair and make a spectacular styling.

This dyeing option is suitable for short hair, the length of which is not lower than the middle of the neck. If the haircut is ultra-short, then balayage is not suitable here.

Average

Coloring strands of medium length allows you to make a haircut more voluminous and original, in addition, coloring visually corrects the shape of the face, makes it more toned. The technology is slightly different here.

To begin with, you should thoroughly comb the strands. With a knitting needle or a sharp tip of a brush with a separator, the curls are divided into 4-5 identical zones. Each of them should be tied with an elastic band and formed into a bun, otherwise they will interfere with staining.

After the preparatory part is completed, you need to dilute the paint and prepare the brushes.

A section of hair near the neck is loosened and one strand of hair is separated from it, smeared with paint strictly on one side. Staining is performed with smearing movements, starting from the bottom and gradually moving towards the middle. You don't need to be too careful here - the strokes should be rather sloppy, like the movements of a painter, otherwise you will not achieve a natural effect. Well, do not forget that about 3-4 cm should remain between the hair roots and the colored part.

After that, paint is applied from the opposite side, so that the letter "V" is obtained, the vertices of which end at different levels. The procedure is repeated, separating all new strands of curls until all sections of the hair are treated.

After 10-15 minutes, the paint is combed down with a comb with rare teeth, the composition is kept for another 20-25 minutes and washed off with running water and shampoo.

Keep in mind that foil and a warming cap are not used for this coloring - such products emphasize the border of the hair, and this is not at all what is needed for a stylish balayage.

If your haircut involves a bang, then do not forget to dye it too - this solution will emphasize the cheekbones and make the look a little more expressive.

Long

Balayage looks very impressive on long strands, it gives them volume and lightness, makes the curls more airy, shining and textured.

By itself, coloring is done in the same way as for curls of medium length, but in this case, the young lady is unlikely to be able to do without someone's help.

By the way, the owners of long curls sometimes allow themselves some deviation from existing techniques - for example, they use a colored color scheme, using not only light shades on the tips, but also salmon, pink, as well as blue or even purple.

Owners of blond curls, who decide to make their own balayage at home, should take note of a few recommendations.

  • Before dyeing, the hair does not need to be washed or moistened - the head must be dry and dirty, because in this case sebum creates a protective film on the surface of the hairs, which significantly reduces the harm from the use of aggressive chemical compounds.
  • If you often use styling products, then it is better to wash your hair a couple of days before coloring and do not use any foam or mousse again. If you leave them on your head, the paint will simply not pick up.
  • If you have a little paint left, then dilute it with water and distribute it over the entire length of the curls 2-3 minutes before the end of the procedure - this will make the coloring result more natural.
  • Do not try to systematize and streamline the choice of strands - staining is done exclusively "by eye".
  • If your hair has previously suffered from previous dyeing or unsuccessful curling, it is better to first treat it, cut off all damaged strands and only then resort to balayage, otherwise the quality of the hair will only worsen.
  • When working, do not use metal tools - they react with oxidants, resulting in the most unpredictable shades. This is especially noticeable on blond and light brown hair, which can turn out to be dirty green.
  • It is not necessary to use too strong oxidants - for balayazh on a light head, 30% solutions are quite enough, otherwise the effect may turn out to be dirty, and the hair after all the manipulations will look like straw.

But in order for toning to delight you with its shades as long as possible, you need to properly care for your hair after the procedure.

  1. Pay attention to repairing damaged hair. Masks, conditioners, oils and serums for colored hairstyles should be used regularly. It is optimal that collagen is included in their structure, as well as vitamins, silicone and proteins. Products based on castor, almond or burdock oils are very useful - they prevent hair splitting and eliminate hair breakage.
  2. Use only products that are designed to care for light hair. They contain special pigments that quickly remove yellowness, which makes coloring "cheap" and unattractive. To neutralize yellowness, you can also use tonics of a purple or silver shade, and they can be applied both to the coldest and rather warm shades of white.
  3. After dyeing, minimize any heat effects on the strands. It is better to dry your head with cold air, and you should refuse to use irons and hairs. If you cannot do without such devices, then each time pre-treat the strands with thermal protective compounds.
