All about Belarusian yarn
Modernity offers a large selection of various clothes, which can not only be purchased almost everywhere, but even ordered to the door. Despite this, handicrafts are still in demand. And knitted models in this regard were no exception. One of the favorite yarns of needlewomen is Belarusian. We will tell you why this is so further, and also give a brief description of these products.
Characteristic
It should be noted right away that the yarn is a thread that is twisted from fibers. The fibers are arranged longitudinally and sequentially. They can be obtained from cotton, wool of various animals, flax, as well as various chemically synthesized products. Manufacturers have been experimenting with products of this kind for a long time: blended yarns are now being produced and several different spinning technologies have been developed.
A few decades ago, Belarusian yarn has proven itself well, it is in demand to this day. One of the main advantages of the product is hypoallergenicity and good heat retention. Due to the content of acrylic, the thread is light, smooth, and retains heat well. The color of the product does not fade over time, does not fade in the sun, the thing rarely fades. Nevertheless, products made from this thread require careful handling: they must not be wrung out, tumbled dry, washed in hot water or with the use of aggressive agents, and also must not be ironed.
Thanks to the special technology of thread manufacturing, the front side of the garments is especially smooth and soft.
The products are produced in skeins or bobbins. The bobbin yarn is treated in a special way and is therefore less prone to rolling.
Manufacturers
Products from several manufacturers are available and are also of good quality.
- Kamtex. A distinctive feature of the product is the content of wool and acrylic in equal proportions. Good for hand knitting. The products can be purchased in skeins of 100 g and 300 m. This manufacturer has about 30 different colors of yarn in the assortment.
- "Slonim KPF". The production is located in the Belarusian city of Slonim. It produces products of two main types: yarn with 30% wool (cotton or other materials) and 70% PAN, as well as yarn with 100% PAN. PAN is a chemically derived fiber similar to wool. The products can be purchased in skeins of 50 g and 202 m in length. Differs in tenderness (used mainly for knitting children's clothes) and durability in wear.
- Gronitex. The manufacturer specializes in the production of products with a predominantly cotton content. The range includes both 100% cotton yarns and blended yarns (for example, yarns with 40% cotton, 40% viscose and 20% linen). On sale there are rolls of 50 g and 250 m, as well as bobbins of 500 g and 2500 m. They are equally well suited for both hand knitting and machine knitting. The company also produces undyed yarn, which is cheaper than dyed counterparts.
Selection Tips
Yarn can be purchased, as already mentioned, in skeins or bobbins. Skeins are more suitable for machine knitting, and bobbins are more suitable for hand knitting. The yarns sold as skeins are more durable and do not deform when sewing on machines.
Be sure to choose the yarn in accordance with the knitting needles available or be ready for their subsequent purchase. The characteristics of suitable knitting needles or crochet hooks can usually be found on the label of the product itself. You also need to read the characteristics of the yarn itself.
This is important because a product created from it can subsequently shrink, lose its color, and so on. The thinner the thread of the yarn, the more it is suitable for various patterns, gradient transition.
