Yarn from the manufacturer Dundaga
The Baltic company Dundaga specializes in the production of quality yarns. These products are created on the basis of natural materials. Today we will talk about the main features of this yarn.
What it is?
The Dundaga factory manufactures its products in the territory of Latvia. This factory operates the world's only cast iron equipment from 1913, which is used to wash and clean fibers without the use of chemical abrasives.
The manufacturer's products are made on the basis of natural wool. In this case, the material is taken from sheep of local breeds. No synthetic additives are used in the production of such yarns.
Dundaga yarn is a tightly twisted thread that is used to knit various things with a hook or knitting needles, special mechanical devices. This material can be woven from both homogeneous and different fibers. Products are on sale in dense frames.
In the manufacture of yarn, a suitable raw material is selected first, then the initial basic mixture is compiled, loosening, beating and carding. After that, a fibrous layer should form. Each thread will be characterized by certain properties, including thickness, breaking load.
Several times a month, this manufacturer releases a unique collection of yarn, which can consist of 20-30 different colors, while the colors do not repeat, therefore it is recommended to buy yarn immediately in the required quantity, since then it will be impossible to pick it up.
During the manufacturing process, a special lanolin is applied to the sheep's wool hairs. It is able to protect fibers from the negative effects of sunlight, moisture and mechanical damage.
The base is not bleached before painting.She should have her natural shade. As a result, it remains quite soft during the production process. Dundaga yarns can have a specific odor. But in the air it disappears rather quickly. After washing, the material will become lighter in several shades, it will also become softer and fluffier.
Range
The Baltic manufacturer produces various types of yarn. Thus, it will be possible to purchase material containing 70% of Latvian sheep wool and 30% merino wool. There are several options for yarn thickness:
-
6/1 (550 m in 100 g);
-
6/2 (275 m in 100 g);
- 6/3 (135 m x 100 g).
Merino is a breed of fine-wool sheep with very thick and lush wool. It is considered to be thinner than plain sheep's wool. Such a base is able to easily retain heat, therefore, things made from it can rightfully be considered the warmest.
It is merino wool that is often taken to create winter clothes and sweaters.
In this case, the fibers can be monophonic or with rolling colors (sectional dyeing). And color transitions are never repeated, each issue has its own unique palette. For each working season, this factory produces 30 new colors. Sometimes a whole color gradation can be observed in the frames.
Each batch of yarn produced by the manufacturer is absolutely unique, therefore, the length of color transitions in sectional samples, as a rule, is different. The length of one color is about 25-80 m, which reaches 5-20 cm in an already finished product, this significant difference is determined, among other things, by the pattern that was chosen for knitting, as well as by the pattern and the tools used.
Each color must have its own specific number. In the production of such natural yarn, only safe dyes of German, Swiss or English production are used. They are considered the most high quality and environmentally friendly. In the assortment there are also samples of natural color, they are not additionally stained with pigments. Once a year, the factory produces black-dyed products.
The production does not use chemical processing of raw materials. Most often, ready-made threads are designed for a hook and knitting needles 2-5 mm. It should be noted that it is better to wash a product knitted with such yarn; after this procedure, the threads can fluff up and become more voluminous.
Currently, the manufacturer produces yarn entirely made from natural Latvian sheep wool. This base is hygroscopic, it perfectly retains and maintains heat, easily lets air through, which allows the skin to breathe.
And also in the assortment you can find tweed samples. Such materials are made on the basis of natural wool; viscose, cotton and other raw materials are also added there.
In this case, the finished material will have uneven threads with small multi-colored blotches. Tweed yarn turns out to be as warm as possible, it keeps its shape perfectly.
The material is very wearable, things knitted from this yarn can last for many years. In addition, such a base is quite economical in consumption.
But it is worth remembering that tweed is rough, so even after washing it may tingle slightly. For people with sensitive skin, tweed things may not always be suitable.
Review overview
Many buyers have given positive feedback on the Dundaga yarns. It was said that the threads have a safe and high quality composition. Despite the fact that most often yarn is made on the basis of natural wool, the material has a relatively low cost.
According to consumers, Dundaga yarn also has a huge palette of colors and shades, so it will be easy to choose the one that suits you best. In addition, the material has convenient footage options.
Separately, it was noted that products knitted from this natural yarn are as warm and comfortable as possible.
But still, many have noticed significant drawbacks of these threads. It is noted that they may seem too prickly, and after the first wash, the dye may get a little dirty.
Some threads in the production process are uneven and too stiff, which complicates the knitting process. With prolonged work, they can even rub their hands.
In the process of working with threads, a large amount of small debris is formed. After the product is tied, it should be thoroughly cleaned and washed to remove any excess particles.
In this case, it is recommended to wash with laundry soap. It is better to do all this manually. Products are soaked until the water is clear. At the end, the material is necessarily rinsed and sent for drying. Moreover, the product must be dried in a horizontal position, otherwise it can stretch out strongly.
