Amber beads are an incredibly beautiful "sunny" jewelry that attracts attention with the play of light and warmth. It will look great on girls and women of any age, the main thing is to choose the style and color that suits you.

Features and properties

Amber is an ancient unique stone that has been created over millions of years. Along with pearls and coral, it belongs to organogenic stones, that is, it is of organic origin.

At its core, amber is the fossilized fossil resin of conifers. Allocated by trees, it gradually hardened, turning into solar gems.

To some extent, this gem can be called a real miracle of nature, because insects, particles of prehistoric plants, trees and even animal remains are found inside the frozen resin.

Amber with a lizard frozen in it is considered unique. It was found near the Polish city of Gdansk and is now kept in the Warsaw Museum.

Such amber stones are called inclusions. Scientists use them to study the distant past of our planet, and jewelers - to create unique, stunning jewelry.

It is believed that amber, with frozen insects inside, has magical properties. For example, a gem with one insect helps to concentrate on work and develops attention, and with two it is a love talisman.

The color of amber ranges from honey-yellow to white, brown and even black. Of course, the most common are clear honey stones.

The main center for the extraction of the mineral is the coast of the Baltic Sea; it is also mined in Sicily, Burma and Hungary.

Natural amber is a stone with healing and even magical properties. This is not just a fantasy, it is scientifically proven that when rubbing against the skin, succinic acid is released, which helps in many diseases.

For example, it relieves stomach pain and headaches, normalizes the thyroid gland and reduces the risk of lung cancer in smokers. Of course, for this, the gem must be worn in the area of the organ that requires treatment. In most cases, amber beads will be the perfect option.

As for the magical properties, our ancestors believed that the gem bestows good luck on campaigns (travels), preserves youth and freshness, protects from the evil eye and evil spirits. It is especially advised to wear this stone during pregnancy - it facilitates the well-being of the expectant mother, makes childbirth quick and painless.

Models

From pressed balls

Pressed beads are made from small, uncontaminated amber, which remains from the extraction of gems. Such amber is called ambroid, in fact, it is also a natural stone. Only it was preliminarily ground into powder and, under pressure, gave it the desired shape.

It is valued less than usual, therefore it costs less. Therefore, on the jewelry market, beads from pressed balls are presented in a large assortment.

The pressed gem is dimmer, it loses its transparency and unique ability to play with light. However, it is quite suitable for everyday wear as a beautiful decoration.

And round beads

To be precise, only a decoration made of round beads of the same size is called beads. If the elements are of a different shape, different sizes and colors - this is already a necklace.

You need to be careful when choosing round beads, they are not suitable for everyone. Young slender women should give preference to models with small beads. Ladies of elegant age should refuse short models - they will draw attention to the neck, which has already been affected by age-related changes.

Beads with medium-sized balls ending in the chest area are considered universal. They are suitable for women of almost any age and physique.

From faceted

Faceted beads deserve special attention because they look noble and stylish. The main advantages of faceted amber are perfect transparency, high-precision cutting, which gives the beads the luster of precious stones, due to the special refraction of light.

Faceted beads are usually more expensive than ordinary beads, since special processing technologies increase the cost of the gem. But you will become the owner of a unique jewelry that will delight you with its brilliance.

Large beads

Large amber beads are one of the most expressive details of a woman's wardrobe. They attract attention, so it is not recommended to combine other active jewelry with them. Small earrings and a thin laconic ring are enough.

Clothes should also be simple in shape, ideally a solid color dress. Best of all, jewelry made of large beads, especially elongated beads, is suitable for large girls, on them it will look proportional.

On an elastic band

Elastic beads are a great option for every day. They are comfortable and practical - no need to worry about fasteners if the diameter of the jewelry does not allow putting it on over the head.

Usually, beads are made with an elastic band from budget pressed amber, which will become an elegant addition to your everyday look.

Types of amber

Untreated

Untreated amber is always opaque, it looks “dusty”, because only after polishing does it acquire its transparency.

It is believed that after processing the gem loses many useful properties, therefore, for medicinal purposes it is advised to buy beads made of unpolished stone. It helps to cope with heart and lung diseases, and normalizes the thyroid gland.

Please note that if you do not have serious illnesses, beads made of unpolished amber should be small. For those with severe diseases, you can buy medium-sized beads. In any case, you cannot start with a very large piece of jewelry.

You can wear them all the time, preferably closer to the neck, so it is better to choose a necklace of short length.

Natural

Natural amber beads are beautiful and unusual. The ideal shape of the ball perfectly emphasizes the natural beauty of the stone.

If the gem was left in its natural form, bubbles, voids, cracks and boundaries of resin layers are visible, which form a unique relief.

Royal

Royal amber is a gem of an unusual light, almost white hue. Sometimes it is called milk, because it really resembles homemade milk in color.

It is very rare, therefore it is very much appreciated by jewelers. The stone is almost never transparent, most often it has a dense matte color.

White amber can have colored blotches - blue, cognac, honey. Such gems act on the body most fruitfully, relieve insomnia, help fight outbursts of anger.

Dominican

A unique gem of stunning blue color was discovered by Christopher Columbus on the island of Haiti. More precisely, he was the first European to see this stone. When the natives presented their gifts to the intruders, the Spaniards took only gold and ignored the stones. Today it is recognized as one of the most valuable gemstones.

It can be found in Nicaragua and Mexico, but the main production is in the Dominican Republic, hence the name of the gem. It is also called tropical and blue amber.

The unusual celestial color with iridescent splashes resembles the appearance of the planet Earth from space; this is a stone of stunning beauty. It does not come from the resin of conifers, but from an extinct tree of the legume family, the modern heir of which is ceratonia.

This is the hardest amber of all, so only experienced jewelers can handle it. Naturally, this affects the price of Dominican amber jewelry - their cost starts from $ 500.

Colour

Nature has endowed this gem with a wealth of colors. Amber can be found in almost all colors of the rainbow.

The most popular beads are made from honey, orange and golden amber. Such shades are called sunny. The shade "matte plum" looks unusual, it can be assumed that it is a purple stone, but in fact it is light olive, the color of unripe cherry plum.

You can also find jewelry made from red, white, milky and almost black stones. Cherry-colored amber, which resembles strong-brewed tea, is especially appreciated.

Green and blue amber is being mined in Sicily. It is a very rare stone that is difficult to process. Accordingly, its value is also impressive.

How to choose?

When choosing beads from any natural stone, you need to focus on your feelings. If you like the jewelry and you feel comfortable in it, this is the main thing. It will most likely reciprocate with you, giving its positive energy.

To become the owner of real amber beads, you need to take a close look at the jewelry you like in the store. There are many tests you can do at home. But even standing at the counter, you will have the opportunity to recognize an obvious fake.

  • First, weigh the beads in your hand - if they are very heavy, this is a glass fake. Real amber, like any hardened resin, is rather light.
  • A natural gem has a uniform color that changes from one shade to another. Air bubbles and layers are allowed.
  • Rub the beads on the fabric - natural stone will begin to electrify, magnetizing hair and pieces of paper.

How to determine naturalness?

To make sure that you have a real gem in front of you, use one of the following methods of checking at home:

  • Dissolve 3 tablespoons of salt in a glass of water and dip your stone into the resulting liquid. Natural amber will not sink, since its density is less than salt water, and plastic or glass amber will sink to the bottom.
  • If you are not afraid to ruin the jewelry, drip acetone on it. However, such a check is not terrible for a real stone, but damage is formed on an artificial one.
  • Natural amber cannot be scratched, it can only crumble.
  • You can check with a heated metal object - needles, pins, coins. Artificial stone will react with an unpleasant chemical odor. Natural - light scent of pine, rosin or incense. Or it will not emit any smell at all.

Remember that a natural gem simply cannot be cheap, this is the first sign of a fake. If you want to become the owner of real amber beads, you will have to say goodbye to a rather large amount.

What to wear with?

Amber beads are a special piece of jewelry that can be used for everyday wear, as an addition to a business suit or evening dress.

Rough raw amber will look good in a casual look. It can be soft comfortable casual clothes or a boho-chic look - flying dresses, jeans, suede.

Laconic amber beads will look good with a shirt or blouse and a business suit. They should end above the neckline, not touching clothing.

Long beads can be worn with a high-necked dress or a knitted turtleneck.

A chic amber necklace will suit an evening dress. It must be made of polished gems, rough rough stones in such a bow are unacceptable. If you want to use additional jewelry in your image, let it be made of gold or gilded silver.

In winter, wear amber beads with wool, cashmere and knitwear. It can be knitted dresses, jumpers, sweaters. The gem will look especially impressive in combination with fur. For example, you can complement your look with a fur cape.

In summer, a string of amber beads will complement a dress or a sundress made of light natural fabrics. It can also be a cotton blouse or tunic. Please note that this should be a laconic piece of jewelry, give up rough massive beads.
