Visiting Montenegro always pleases Russian tourists. But to enjoy all the delights of this country, you need to know well its airports. Let's try to understand this topic in more detail.

basic information

Montenegro or Montenegro is a small Balkan state. On the territory of 14000 sq. km about 1.5 million tourists annually rest. Those who want to relax on the Adriatic Sea at minimal expense come here. There are many lakes, mountains, canyons in Montenegro.

The magnificent nature in a relatively calm and quiet country is exactly what the inhabitants of the megalopolises of Russia are sorely lacking.

Key air terminals of the country

The most important of the international airports in Montenegro is located 12 km south of Podgorica. This is not surprising, because it is Podgorica that is the official capital of the country, as well as the most important settlement in the economic and political terms. No other settlement in the country can compare with Podgorica in terms of the total number of inhabitants. But the closest to this airport is the small town of Golubovtsi.

That is why the name is found in a number of sources Golubovci Airport. Locals often speak much more poetically - "The Heart of Montenegro". The terminal operates 24/7. 0.5 million passengers pass through it annually. But the possibilities are much greater - the new terminal, which has been operating since 2006, can accommodate a million travelers in a year.

This discrepancy is simply explained - the runway at Podgorica airport is too short (2.5 km). Not all planes can land and take off. The peak of airport loading is predictably in the second half of spring, summer and early autumn. Then both regular and charter flights fly to Podgorica.But there is another problem - tourists going to the beaches of Montenegro should choose places closer to the sea.

Therefore, consider the next point of arrival on our list - airport near the city of Tivat. Even in itself, he is beautiful. And from there it is convenient to travel to different places throughout Montenegro. Most of the tourists who arrive here go to Budva, which is only 3 km away. The city's airport has regular flights to Tivat every day.

All year round, planes fly from here to Moscow. You can also fly to the Russian capital every day. Tivat airport, like Podgorica airport, is the property of the state-owned company Aerodromi Crne Gora. The literal translation of its name is "Airfields of Montenegro". Initially, the Tivat air harbor was put into operation in the post-war period.

The airport was not intended for civilian scheduled flights. Parachutists trained there, and parachuting competitions were also held there. Tivat Airport began serving the first civil aircraft in 1957. In September 1971, after a three-year reconstruction, it reopened. A runway with a size of 2500x45 m was created.

The new airfield was paved. This made it possible to significantly increase the airport's capacity. Now it is no longer enough - however, something more perfect Montenegro can not offer. Regular flights to Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo are organized from Tivat.

All other destinations are served mainly in summer.

Charter flights from Tivat also depart to other cities on the Adriatic coast. The airport is used by such Russian airlines as:

  • S7 Airlines;
  • Nordstar Airlines;
  • Aeroflot;
  • "Victory";
  • "Russia";
  • Yamal;
  • Ural Airlines;
  • Red Wings;
  • MetroJet.

Also at Tivat airport there are aircraft of 1 Belgian, 4 Ukrainian and 2 German air carriers. Air Serbia flies here. The national airline Montenegro Airlines organizes flights to Belgrade, Paris, London, St. Petersburg and Moscow. The Tivat air terminal is located at a rather low altitude above sea level.

Therefore, a very beautiful view opens up from planes taking off or landing. But we must remember that over the past 48 years, the infrastructure has become very outdated. The strip, like in Podgorica, is only 2.5 km long. Therefore, landing of large airbuses is impossible. When choosing an airport closer to the sea on the map, do not forget that the hourly capacity of Tivat is only 6 flights. In the winter months it is open from 6 am to 4 pm, and in the summer months from 6 am until dark.

The airport terminal occupies 4000 sq. m. But at the same time there are only 11 check-in counters. Therefore, at the peak of the season, overloads often occur. To some extent, they are smoothed out due to the correct and efficient working style of the employees. In the terminal, you can:

  • visit a duty-free shop;
  • sit in a small cafe;
  • buy tours and excursions;
  • use the services of a bank;
  • rent a car.

Returning to the Podgorica airport, it should be said that in 2006 the renovation was not limited to increasing the terminal's capacity. At the same time, we carried out a deep modernization of power supply systems and external lighting devices. Taxiways and aircraft parking areas were reconstructed. The new airport building looks original; the use of glass and aluminum alloys helped to improve its appearance.

      The Podgorica air terminal is convenient for those who are going to go to Bar, Petrovac or Ulcinj. The bus stop located at the main entrance usually allows you to save money without taking a taxi. You can come to the capital of Montenegro from here for 2 euros 50 cents. For comparison: taxi drivers charge an average of 15 euros on the same route.

      Podgorica Airport has been receiving regular flights since 1961.

      Initially, the area of the terminal building and the airfield was 4000 sq. m.Up to 1000 passengers, arriving and departing on short-haul planes, could pass through the airport per day. Overhaul and modernization were carried out by 1977. This allowed Podgorica airport to become one of the most modern in Europe. Then he could accept all categories of passenger airliners, and after the reconstruction in 2008, the airport has become even more perfect.

      Subtleties of choice

      Regardless of whether tourists prefer Tivat or Podgorica, it is advisable for them to arrive at these airports 90-120 minutes before the end of registration. This solution will eliminate many problems. The distance from Podgorica to Budva is 64 km, and from Tivat - about 25 km. If you go to other resorts, the distance will be:

      • to Kotor - 85 and 11;
      • to Herceg Novi - 142 and 21;
      • to Kolashin - 72 and 161;
      • to Ulcinj - 78 and 88;
      • to Cetinje - 36 and 56 km, respectively.

      These figures show that it is more practical to get from Tivat to Budva, Becici, Petrovac, Przno and Milocer. Also, this airport is good for those who are going to relax in the northern part of the Adriatic coast. But in winter the situation changes. It is more convenient to go to the most important ski centers of Montenegro from Podgorica. If tourists are going to go on excursions around the country, visiting Cetinje and other ancient centers, then for them a specific airport does not matter.

      There is no domestic air connection in Montenegro. The reason is simple - the distance between the two international airports is about 80 km. If the first place for vacationers is not so much the convenience of travel to the resort as the comfort of the airport itself, then they should choose Podgorica. In 2007, according to the International Airports Council, it was named the best in its category. The terminal, which opened a year earlier, can offer car parking and café services to travelers.

        Upon arrival at any of the two airports in Montenegro, you can get to the desired resort by taxi or by a rented car. It is quite possible to save money if you use regular buses. Compared to a transfer, costs are reduced many times.

        If, nevertheless, it is decided to use the transfer services, then it is advisable to order a car in advance.

        It is not economically viable to do this locally. It is best to apply through the Kiwitaxi website or similar major resources. Many tourists do just that, because there are no stops near Tivat airport. Buses slow down only at the request of people who are waiting. Standing on the Yadran highway while waiting for transport is a dubious pleasure.
