Montenegro delights tourists with its nature. Picturesque views are somewhat reminiscent of the Crimean beauty of nature. One of the main attractions of Montenegro is the Tara River Canyon. You cannot relax in Montenegro and not see this miracle of nature.

Location

Tara river canyon - a truly magnificent place. Most often, several stops are made at the canyon. Trains pass along the top of the canyon. At some stops there are restaurants where you can have a hearty breakfast. The Tara River Canyon is the deepest in Europe, second only to the Grand Canyon, which is located in the United States. With a depth of about 1300 meters and a length of 80 kilometers, it is part of the Durmitor National Park, which is popular not only for the canyon, but also for small villages, clean mountain air, serpentines and animals included in the Red Book. Durmitor is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

You can see the canyon if you buy a guided tour ticket or hire a guide. Tourists are not allowed to go there without trained and experienced guides. It will be most convenient to use excursions, the only drawback is that they are all complex and will take the whole day.

Excursion programs

The program of many excursion tours includes an inspection of the Tara River canyon. The cost of one ticket is about 40 euros, plus food or additional fees. In general, you will spend about 50 euros for one excursion, and do not forget to take money with you to buy souvenirs.

Canyons

The tour program includes most of the Montenegrin attractions, including 2 large lakes (Skadar and Black), the city of Podgorica, for an additional fee of 4 euros you can see the ancient monastery and the national park. The whole excursion lasts about 14 hours, tourists are collected at 6:30 am and taken to the city of Budva by 20 pm.

During the trip along the picturesque serpentines, there are several stops.

  • Djurdzhevich Bridge. A majestic construction, the author of which is Miyat Troyanovich. It occupies the first place in length, which is 366 meters, in Europe. It is 172 meters high and connects the two banks of the canyon. Huge arches, built of monolithic concrete, look majestic and mesmerizing against the backdrop of the canyon.

It is from the bridge that the best panoramas open up. There were times when bungee jumping worked on the bridge, but it interfered with motorists, which is why it was closed. But on the right and on the left, there are two bungee cranes that you can use and jump over the canyon. You can also jump in pairs, the price will vary from choosing a side from 10 to 20 euros.

  • Bend of the Tara River. You can go down to the river along the path located to the right of the Djurdzhevich bridge. An interesting fact: the water in the river is so clean that it is suitable for drinking, rare fish are also found there, and sport fishing is allowed in some parts of the river. The view of the river from a great height resembles a horseshoe in shape, unfortunately, tourists at this stop are rarely let out of the bus, because the terrain is very rocky and dangerous.
  • Durmitor Park. The place is rainy, the park is located high in the mountains. The park is inhabited by animals listed in the Red Book, and there are also many rare trees. Durmitor is located in a mountainous area; you can walk along serpentines to Mount Bobotov Kuk, which is the highest point of the park. In the cold season, a ski resort opens on the territory of the park. You can visit the park's caves all year round, the most famous of which is the Ice Cave. After arrival, tourists are given an hour to get to the Black Lake, of course, they are given enough time to have time to walk slowly through the park. Return from the excursion will be late in the evening, this is a great chance to watch the sunset, going down the serpentines.

There are hotels in the park where you can stay for a couple of days in order to have time to see all the sights.

  • Orthodox monasteries. On the territory of the canyon, some monasteries have survived, their construction dates back to the 15th century, each of them has its own historical value. These are the monasteries of Dovoliy, Pirlitor, Dobrilovin and the monastery of the Archangel Michael.

River rafting

The best experience of the majestic canyon can be obtained by rafting on the Tara River. Even children are allowed to go rafting during the tourist season., since the water level allows you to swim the river as safely as possible. Of course, there is serious preparation and instruction.

The most popular route is rafting 18 kilometers long, for more experienced tourists there are rafting with a greater length. The cost of the rafting includes equipment, transfer to the river, hearty breakfast and the cost of entering the national park, which is paid locally.
