Montenegro is a small state on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, where rest is decorated with a comfortable typical Mediterranean climate. Resorts in Montenegro are a good option for a relatively budget vacation with high comfort. It is worth noting that the swimming season starts here in mid-May and ends in October.

The coast of the Montenegrin resorts is filled with both sandy beaches and pebble resting places. But for the most comfortable stay, you should opt for resorts with sandy shores. Let's take a closer look at the most popular vacation spots in Montenegro with soft sand by the water.

Where are they located?

The total length of the coast of Montenegro is 293.5 km. And on these shores are the main capitals of Montenegro - its beaches, of which there are only 117. What is noteworthy, there is no concept of a "private" beach in Montenegro, you can rent a section of the beach and maintain it according to simple rules: to maintain the cleanliness and condition of the coastal zone all year round, leave at least half of the space free of sunbeds, guarantee free admission and access to the sea.

The beaches of Montenegro are distinguished by their cleanliness, water quality, landscaping, which was marked with blue flags. The shores are predominantly rocky, concrete or pebble, while there are not very many areas with sand. But each of the sandy beaches of Montenegro is worthy of attention, and many tourists do not pass them by. A feature of the sandy beaches of Montenegro is heavy sand, which willingly settles to the bottom (in fact, that's why blue flags stick to the beach resorts of this country). The main resorts by the sea with sandy beaches are located in the cities of Herceg Novi, Kotor, Budva, Ulcinj, Bar, Tivat.

The number of sandy embankments in these cities is different. For example, in Kotor there is only one sandy beach - Lyuta, located almost 10 kilometers from the city center. There are several main sandy beaches in Herceg Novi, but the most popular are Sutorina (or Blatna Plaza) and Zhorovicha. The beaches of Zhorovich are very beautiful, it is believed that they have healing sand.

Tivat has a large number of sandy beaches, including Selyanovo, Opatovo and Kalardovo (not completely gritty) as well Blue horizons (with the hotel complex of the same name). Among the many beaches in Budva, the most famous are Yaz, Trsteno (with a steep seabed), Ploche (isolated from others, therefore suitable for a peaceful rest), Mogren with a steep entrance to the sea, and Slavic beach (pebbly, but sand is present).

In addition to these beaches, Budva has Becici, ideal for family vacations due to its vast sandy area and gentler terrain, Kamenovo, Tsrevna Glavitsa, Perazic, Petrovac and Lucice. All these beaches form the so-called Budva Riviera.

Bar has beaches Sutomore and Red Beach. Ulcinj is ready to offer Big beach with a coastline length of more than 10 kilometers, which can serve as a service for those who are looking for a relaxing holiday. Ulcinj also has beach on the island of Ada Bojana, but it is mainly for nudists and seekers of seclusion. And in the town of Dobra Voda there is beach Veliki Pesak (or Piesak).

The most beautiful and original

The abundance of beaches in this country explains the large number of beautiful beach gems.

The first "pearl" on our list will be Sveti Stefan in the Budva Riviera. Sveti Stefan is located on the eponymous island with clear water, golden sand and desired privacy. One part of the coast on the sand spit belongs to the hotel, and the other is public, both parts are separated by an isthmus. The combined length of the coastline is about 700 meters, and this coast is never crowded. Moreover, to visit the hotel's beach, you need to rent a sun lounger for 100 euros, and in the neighborhood on the same spit you can relax for free.

Sveti Stefani Beach has been awarded the Golden Apple - a prestigious international award.

Montenegro has its own "Hawaii" on the island of St. Nicholas, which is located near Budva. Its name - "Hawaii", the island justifies the presence on its shore of the restaurant of the same name. Some of the time the island is connected to Budva by a path. Hawaii has both secluded, wild embankments and popular ones, with good infrastructure and a steady stream of tourists.

These places are distinguished by turquoise water, which pleases tourists, but there are many sea urchins in the water, so you need to be careful.

In Montenegro, among other things, there are Royal Beach, divided into the beaches of the King and the Queen and located also near Budva, in the lagoon in the Milocer region. It was named so because it was previously owned by the royal family of the Karageorgievich family. In total, this coastal zone has a length of 200 meters, and only the King's embankment is sandy. The entire complex of the royal beach is assigned to the Sveti Stefan Aman Resort, and you can get to this territory without staying in a hotel for at least fifty euros.

It is worth noting that this place has an elite status, mainly VIPs, politicians, celebrities rest here.

The Budva Riviera also includes Slavic beach with a mixture of sand and small pebbles... It is located near the center of Budva, has a volleyball court and is more than 1.5 kilometers long. This area is notable, first of all, for its atmosphere of parties, fun and incredibly rich leisure activities, but this can be a disadvantage for those who value privacy.

Great beach not far from Ulcinj it has a length of 13 kilometers, moreover, the sand there is white. The coast is shallow and the bottom is shallow, the depth increases slowly, up to 40 meters from the water's edge.

The water is very clean, and sports grounds are also equipped.

The best beaches for families with children

If you intend to relax by the sea with children, then the beaches should be clean, safe, if possible - with shallower waters.

In Montenegro, the best sandy areas for families with children are Sutomore, Rafailovichi, Kamenovo, Luchice, Buljarica, Petrovaca, Chan, as well as the Lustitsa bay.

The town of Sutomore has a length of 2.5 kilometers, and in some places steep slopes lead to the beach itself. It is especially pleasant in Sutomore that during the tourist season most of the streets are closed for transport, which increases the safety of the city for children. The atmosphere on the embankments of Sutomore is calm, but there is an opportunity to engage in active leisure activities, for example, diving, ride a banana boat and a cheesecake, try a jet ski and a catamaran.

There are many cafes on the coast and, despite the abundance of tenants, the infrastructure is developed in exactly the same way throughout the territory.

The first is conditionally common with neighboring Becici with a sandy surface, paragliding and jet skiing. The second zone is located to the east and differs from the first only in that it is located closer to the island of St. Stephen, and the coastal strip is somewhat narrower. The third part, in contrast to the first two, has quite a few sun loungers, so guests are accommodated on towels.

Due to the close proximity of the pier, the water here is not very clean in comparison with other parts of the embankment.

The next section is located in two cozy bays behind the pier, where the water is much cleaner. The fifth section is described above under the name "Hawaii", and the sixth has its own name - Kamenovo.

We will dwell on Kamenovo in more detail, as it is a separate beach. This is the cleanest area with clear turquoise water, located in the vicinity of Budva. The coast is sandy with a few small pebbles. If you are going on holiday with strollers, you should be aware that then descending can be problematic, but this is not a critical drawback, especially if you already have more mobile children. The beach is not as visited as the others as there are not many accommodations nearby. The length of the territory of Kamenovo is about 350 meters. The coastline is wide, the entrance to the sea is shallow.

You can also pay attention to Lucice beach. This is an area 220 meters long, where even in the season there are no crowds occupying this place. The coast is sheltered in a small cozy bay and has a not entirely uniform surface - fine pebbles and coarse sand. The entrance to the sea is shallow, but in some places there are relatively large stones, which should be borne in mind. At great depths, sea urchins are occasionally found.

In general, the place is regularly cleaned of debris up to the point of attracting divers. It is curious that in this area it is quite common to leave your belongings unattended and, for example, go to the restroom, cafe or swim. The level of security of this recreation area is quite sufficient to act this way.

Children can also be taken with you to Buljaritsa. The shore there is framed by a coniferous forest, thanks to which you can enjoy not only beautiful landscapes, but also fresh forest air mixed with the sea. On this beach, renting accessories is much cheaper than the average in Montenegro.

Buljarica is 2.5 kilometers long and has a sandy cover with occasional small pebbles. The infrastructure is slightly behind the average in Montenegro, but the path to this recreation area runs through a settlement with pleasant architecture and spacious buildings. There is a cafe and a restaurant on the beach, there is a shower, and for additional leisure they offer catamarans and water zorbs - hollow plastic balls designed for riding on water.

In addition, there is a camping on the territory, allowing you to live for some time directly by the sea.

Petrovac hides its beach areas in several small bays, the distance to which can be reached from hotels on foot. Moreover, there are no exclusively sandy areas in this place, the coverage on this recreation area is mainly a mixture of pebbles with coarse sand. The entrance to the sea is shallow, up to 5 meters from the water's edge it warms up perfectly, and the depth allows even small children to swim there.

There are no cafes or restaurants ashore, but they can always be found on the waterfront, plus locals often sell boiled corn and donuts.

We should also mention one of the beaches of Petrovac - Lustica. It is located a 15-minute walk from the central beach of Petrovac, while the bay itself is hidden from the eyes of observers who love to gawk from the windows of the rooms. In the middle of the beach there is the Medine bar, and nearby there is a cafe that can offer wood-fired pizza. Closer to Petrovac there is a cozy restaurant framed by pine trees.

Chan is a sand and pebble beach called Pearl because of the similarity of local pebbles to pearls. In addition to the main beach, there is 220 meters of Queen's Beach nearby. It is surrounded by steep cliffs, so you can get there only by water, it is very convenient to enter it here, since the descent is gentle. Kamenya Small Beach, 100 meters long, has much more sand.

Both of these beaches are wild and can do the trick if the main beach is full.

Rating of the best

To summarize all of the above, there are three best resorts with sandy beaches in Montenegro.

At the first place - Budva due to the abundance of beaches, comfortable hotels.

The second point is townships Milocer and Sveti Stefan, distinguished by their beauty, long beaches, exotic vegetation.

The third on this list will be resort Sutomore, distinguished by olives, serenity and tranquility.

It should be noted that absolutely every beach is good in its own way and has advantages characteristic only of it. Therefore, it is recommended to choose a place to stay not based on ratings, but following your own preferences.
