The best beaches in Montenegro
The beaches in Montenegro are considered one of the cleanest and most well-groomed in Europe. There are a huge number of them here and for every taste: sandy and stony, with small pebbles and large boulders, wild and fashionable. Their great advantage is that almost all of them belong to the state - there are practically no private beaches in Montenegro.
Types
If you look at the map of the Montenegrin coast, you can see that it is all indented with small cozy coves. They often have spontaneous nudist beaches. The coating on them is usually pebble, the entrance to the sea is not very convenient, and there are no amenities. But you can enjoy the silence, swim for your own pleasure and get a gorgeous tan without traces of a swimsuit.
One of these places is the Galia beach in the area of St. Stephen. Another wild beach is on the island of Ada Bojana. The dress code rules are strictly observed here - sunbathing in clothes is not only not recommended, but even prohibited. It is considered bad form to spy on other vacationers.
On Njivice beach near the settlement of Herceg Novi, there is also a zone for those who like to sunbathe naked, but here such a minority. Near the resort town of Budva there is also a place on the coast of Jaz, where the sight of a resort visitor without clothes will not embarrass anyone. This piece of land is located at some distance from the usual beaches. In the same place, in Budva, you can find another natural site where you can merge with nature - Mogren beach.
If you prefer comfort and convenience, choose sunbathing spots near hotels. It has all the traditional attributes of a beach holiday - from sun loungers and changing cabins to a diving school and sports equipment rental. The entrance to the beach is free, but you will have to pay for the rental of a sun lounger and an umbrella. Moreover, the further from the hotel area, the lower the price.
There are also special beaches where locals themselves prefer to relax. There are very few tourists there, and Russian speech is almost inaudible.
Rating and review of the best
There are many beautiful vacation spots in Montenegro. Let's make a rating of the most popular beaches.
Kamenovo
It is located on the Budva Riviera, near the village of Rafailovichi. From the city of Budva you can get to it by Mediteran Express. You need to choose a direction to the city of Petrovits or to the island of St. Stephen. The bus stops on the highway, before reaching the coast, the descent to the sea goes downhill. If you are traveling with a stroller, the most convenient way to get to the beach is from the promenade side. There is a small tunnel behind Rafilovichi - this way is more comfortable.
The beach is usually not crowded, as the entire tourist infrastructure is located at some distance from the coast... The length of the Kamenevo coastline is small, just over 300 m, but rather wide. The beach is located in a bay and is sheltered from the winds. Therefore, there are no strong storms and tides, and the water remains clean and warm. The beach is covered with different-sized pebbles. In some places there are huge boulders on which you can sunbathe. Entering the water is comfortable, without sudden changes in depth. The beach has an area with paid sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as a site for "savages" with their own towels.
Amenities include a changing room, and entertainment - catamarans for rent.
Buljarica
The beach is located on the territory of the Barskaya Riviera and is quite remote from large settlements, so it is also relatively uncrowded here. The length of the beach is about 3 km, which allows vacationers to disperse and not interfere with each other. A mountain path leads to Buljarica from Petrovac, which passes through a pine forest. On the way, you can take a break and have a snack on a specially equipped area with a bench and a table.
The beach area is strewn with small pebbles, in places mixed with sand. There are also large stones, so it is recommended to take special shoes. The entrance to the water is comfortable, lined with wooden flooring, the stones are even and smooth. There is a shallow water zone, which is very convenient for kids. The depth safe for swimming is fenced with buoys. Lifeguards are on duty at the beach. The coast of the beach is open from all sides, so it is not very comfortable here in windy weather. Buljarica is equipped with all the necessary attributes - straw umbrellas, plastic sun beds, a changing room, a shower with fresh water, a cafe. From entertainment - a ball for skating (zorb), catamarans, boat trips.
If you would like to stay in this place longer, the Maslina Camping is at your service.
Zhanitsa
This beach is also referred to as the presidential one. During his reign, the president of the then Yugoslavia, Joseph Tito, often stayed here. The beach is pebbly, the water is clean, but colder than in other places in Montenegro.

There is an olive plantation in the immediate vicinity of the sea, where you can escape from the sweltering heat. Therefore, the main feature of the beach is a massage with real olive oil. Otherwise, this place is no different from other beaches - sun loungers, cozy cafes, ice cream and fruit sellers.
To take a shower, you need to pay 50 eurocents and the water will flow automatically. There is usually enough time for the whole family to rinse.
Not far from the beach there is a marina for pleasure boats, which can take you to the Blue Cave and the Mamula fortress located on the island.
Ploche
Ploche Is not just a beach. This is a trendy hangout place, one of the few on the entire coast. The territory of Ploce occupies 10,000 m² and is divided into thematic zones. There are several seawater pools for adults and children. There is a bar with drinks and music at the guests' service.
Every evening, the pools are filled with soap suds and they turn into a foam disco dance floor. Also on the beach there is everything you need for the comfort and safety of vacationers: changing rooms, shower, toilet, medical room and a rescue tower. In Ploče you can rent a scooter, a boat and even a whole yacht, go water skiing or catamaran, and also take some swimming lessons or go diving. There are sports sections of beach volleyball and football, there is equipment for table tennis and billiards. Little guests are entertained by animators.
Lucice
Lucice is located in the delta of a small cove surrounded on all sides by majestic rocks. It is a 15-minute walk from the main beach in Petrovac. The smell of pine, mixed with juniper, is in the air. All crowded routes run off the coast, so locals have chosen it. The territory is small, only 200 meters, but in the morning it is usually not crowded here.
The beach has traditional areas: equipped with sun loungers and sunshades, as well as wild, where you can calmly sit down with your bedding. Covering - small pebbles with sand. The shallow water zone takes only a few meters from the land, then a sharp cliff and great depth begin. Divers regularly clean the bottom of debris, so you can swim here without fear. The average water temperature is usually no higher than 23-25 degrees. There is a shower and a changing room on site. Here, in one of the many cafes, you can enjoy the national cuisine. In the shade of a pine grove, there is a children's playground with water slides, a sandpit, and kiosks with sweets.
Not far from the beach, there is a small mini market selling essential goods and souvenirs. For those arriving by car, there is a paid parking lot and a free parking lot.
Great Pesak

Part of the beach is covered with small pebbles, and part is paved with concrete platforms... The width of the recreation area is approximately 10 meters. There is a medical room, a rescue service, sports equipment rental, a shower and a changing room on the territory. The service staff constantly monitors the cleanliness of the premises and the beach itself.
Chan
This is a small cove in the village of the same name. Locals call it pearl, this is its second name. The length of the coast is about a kilometer. Due to the fact that the coast is protected by rocks and forest vegetation, there are no strong seas here. The beach has a standard set of amenities for tourists. In addition, there are dedicated areas for land and water beach games.
The place is quite lively as there are many hotels nearby. If you do not have a car, you can take public transport from Bar and other villages to Chan Beach.
Top beaches for families with children
For the convenience of little travelers, it would be logical to choose places with a sandy surface and with a gentle entrance to the sea. Several locations meet these requirements. The most famous among them is this is Safari beach. In addition to the designated amenities, there is a playground with water slides and other entertainment.
Next on the list of places recommended for visiting with children - this is the city beach Petrovac. Its walking accessibility from the resort area and the presence of a developed infrastructure gives it the right to be called one of the best on the entire Montenegrin coast.
In the vicinity of the resort town of Budva, there are several beaches at once, recommended for families. The most populous of them is Mogren beach... Along a rocky ridge, located neatly in the middle of the coast, there is a border between the sandy and pebble cover. You can get from one part of the beach to another via a picturesque underground passage. This will be a real unforgettable adventure for children. Also near Budva there is a pebbled Becici beach. Several inflatable water slides have been built there especially for children.
Despite the fact that the beach is located in the very center of the village, it is calm and safe here.
If you leave Budva in the direction of Becici, on the way you will come across a picturesque place called Guvantse. It is a miniature sandy beach. There is complete freedom for children here: you can run barefoot, make "Easter cakes" of their sand, splash in warm water. The entrance to the sea is convenient for them, and besides, it is always sunny here. And if you stay longer, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset. You can get to it by taking a leisurely stroll along the coast, or by taking a mini-train that makes kids absolutely delighted.
The name of Plavi Horizonti beach translates as "Blue Horizon". Vacationers are attracted here by the opportunity to soak up the sand, the medicinal properties of which are legendary, as well as the air, saturated with the healing scent of pine needles, which comes from the numerous pines growing along the entire coast. The beach area is very large, so you can easily find a place on it not only for a stroller, but also for a small tent, in which you can put your baby to sleep.
Lovers of sun loungers can easily find a free sun lounger even in peak season, and those who prefer a more relaxing holiday can choose a shady corner, walking a little further along the path along the sea.
How to choose?
As you can see from all of the above, in Montenegro you can find a place for any kind of recreation. Which one to prefer, everyone decides for himself individually. Newlyweds tend to prefer deserted, quiet corners where they can enjoy their honeymoon; couples with young children are usually interested in how to get to the sandy coast.
Older people value comfort and convenience, so they often prefer developed infrastructure and proximity to their place of residence. And lovers of wildlife and diving can be advised to rent a car, drive along the entire coastline and look for a location along the way.
Montenegro is a very picturesque country where anyone, no matter if they are a local or a visitor, will find the perfect beach for themselves.
