Tivat: climate, attractions and features of recreation
Montenegro for Russians is one of the few visa-free countries in Europe where you can enjoy inexpensive beach holidays, the architecture of old cities and fortresses, excellent views of canyons and mountains. Every corner of the country is beautiful in its own way, representing the untouched beauty of nature and the preserved national flavor.
History
Tivat airport, which receives flights from Russia, is located four kilometers from the city, in the village of Mrchevac. The town itself is located on the shores of the Tivat Bay of the Boka Kotorska Bay, the largest on the Adriatic, on the Vramts Peninsula. It is called the gateway to this bay and the air gateway to Montenegro.
The ancient name of the western part of the Balkan Peninsula is Illyria, and the population was called Illyrians. Their first settlement in the bay dates back to the 3rd century BC. In the Middle Ages, the patrician families of Kotor ruled here. This period is followed by the Roman-Byzantine, Serbian, Venetian-Turkish, Austrian and Montenegrin. All of them have left traces of government on the territory of the municipality of Tivat.
During the era of Serbian rule at the beginning of the 12th century, the city was part of the medieval state of Nemanici, the founder of which is upan Stefan Nemanja. In the 13th century, Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, built the monastery of Saint Archangel Michael on the island of Prevlaka and transferred the residence of the Zeta Metropolis there. Tivat became an important religious center of that time.
Under the Venetians, the city became part of Venetian Albania and was called Teodo. Three centuries later, during which power was constantly changing, both the French and the Austro-Hungarians ruled, in early 1920 it became part of Yugoslavia. Since 2006, Tivat has been part of the independent Crna Gora or Montenegro.
After the construction of the Naval Arsenal for the ships of the Austro-Hungarian fleet at the end of the 19th century, Tivat was given city rights. During the times of the Republic of Yugoslavia, the repair base of the Yugoslav Navy was based here. Now there is the most majestic marina on the Adriatic - the Porto Montenegro superyacht parking, built by the Canadian businessman Peter Munch. It has a collection of maritime heritage museum.
Today the town is an attractive family resort with a population of 9,500. Sports and cultural events are held for young people - Bokara Bowling Olympiad, Youth Day, Zhuchinitsa-fest, Tivat Summer Celebrations, Cultural Summer and much more.
All year round, the city sparkles with carnivals and masquerades. The Mediterranean Theater Festival is held in the summer. Exhibitions open, give concerts, theatrical performances, show films.
Climate
Tivat has a moderately warm climate with short and warm winters. Summer is hot and long. In winter, there is much more rainfall than in summer, although the average annual temperature is + 15 ° С. The driest month is July, which is also the warmest with a temperature of + 24 °, reaching higher values in the sun. The heat is not felt because of the ring of mountains that surround the bay.
The sea warms up to + 27 ° С. It is transparent, visibility 40-60 meters, and clean. The rainiest month is November, and the January air temperature is only + 7 ° С, which is considered the lowest in the year. Autumn is the rainy season.
Where to stay?
The city is located on the border of Boka-Kotorska and Herceg-Novinsky bays, deep in the bay, so there is no open sea there. Hotels, inns, villas and apartments are available to suit any budget. Many hotels have been rebuilt since the last century. The price of accommodation depends on the level of comfort, the services offered and the proximity to the water. The best are hotels of 5 or 4 stars, located near the coast, with panoramic views of the bay and mountains, in the center or close to the city center.

It is necessary to carefully study all offers for renting rooms and understand what exactly is offered. The owner registers his guests, for which it is necessary to give him photocopies of passports or originals. There is a tourist tax, so check if this is included in the price of your accommodation.
There is one in the town Hostel Antonwhere prices in dorms are from 10 €. If you book an apartment on the service Airbnb, prices range from 25 € -35 € in coastal areas, and further from the sea - from 15 €.
If you are going to walk a lot and you only need a roof over your head for sleeping, choose an apartment. If service, cleaning, animation, meals are important, choose hotels or apart-hotels. The main thing is to understand that you cannot count on an elite service for little money.
There are few beaches in the city itself, and some famous ones, which belong to Tivat, are several tens of kilometers away from it.
There are beaches near the city's parks, located near the coast. Highlight small pebble Belane and 500 meters long Zupa, covered with small pebbles, located in the airport area.
