Armpit depilation is a delicate procedure that gives not only aesthetic, but also hygienic results. In this article, we will look at everything about underarm depilation.

Peculiarities

First, it is necessary to differentiate concepts such as depilation and epilation. Hair removal is a technique for removing excess hair by exposing the hair follicle to electromagnetic pulses that completely destroy it. With depilation, the superficial part of the hair is removed, and the follicle itself remains in place. This method of hair removal gives a temporary result, but the regularity of the procedure leads to a change in the structure of the hair: it becomes thinner, grows less frequently and more slowly.

Hair removal in the armpit area is different from the same procedure in other areas of the body. This is due to several factors.

  • The underarm area is characterized by increased sweating. The presence of hairiness in the armpits is not only unaesthetic, but also extremely unhygienic. A large number of sweat glands are accumulated in this area, which leads to the fact that it is here that the main excretion of fluid from the body in the form of sweat occurs. Microorganisms that are present in sweat-saturated axillary hair act as provocateurs of inflammatory processes, irritations that are difficult to treat. Another manifestation of underarm hair is an unpleasant odor, which is the result of the vital activity of bacteria.
  • The armpits are a delicate area, therefore, depilation on it must be carried out taking into account the observance of technology, especially at home.This is due to the fact that the hair in this area grows in several directions, which must be taken into account when carrying out the procedure. Failure to comply with this rule can lead to massive hair ingrowth and inflammation.
  • Most people use underarm deodorant. It must be removed before the depilation procedure. It is prohibited to reapply it during the first days after hair removal. This is due to the fact that the first time after depilation, the pores remain open.

The deodorant will clog them, thereby triggering the development of the inflammatory process.

Treatment options

At home, the procedure for removing hair from the armpits can be carried out in the following ways: using a razor, wax depilation (waxing), shugaring (using sugar paste), using special creams. Let us dwell on each of these methods in more detail.

Using a razor

This method is characterized by simplicity, accessibility and democracy. The procedure consists in applying a special shaving gel or shaving foam to the hairy part of the armpit area, which softens the hair structure and makes the skin smoother and slippery, which protects it from possible injury. You need to shave strictly along the hair growth.

This procedure is recommended to be carried out before bedtime, while taking a bath or shower, when the skin is steamed, and the pores expand as much as possible.

Waxing (waxing)

To remove unwanted hair from the body, use a specially designed wax. There are many varieties depending on the area of application. Before carrying out the procedure, you must make sure that there is no allergy to any of the components of the wax composition (apply a small amount to the bend of the arm and wait a while).

The procedure includes several steps.

  • A special composition is applied to the previously prepared (cleaned and defatted) skin. It is important to do it right: in the direction of hair growth. It should not be forgotten that the hair in the armpits grows in different directions, so it becomes necessary to apply wax applications several times.
  • After the composition has solidified, it is necessary to tear off the application together with the hairs adhering to it with one sharp movement. This should be done against hair growth. The painfulness of the procedure justifies the duration of its action - for the next 2-3 weeks you can forget about armpit hair.
  • If a certain amount of hair remains after the procedure, it must be repeated. Experts do not recommend using tweezers to remove their remains.

Manual shugaring

This procedure involves the elimination of hair using a special substance - sugar paste (caramel). Compared to waxing, this method is more gentle and consists in the following:

  • knead the sugar mass until soft and separate a small ball from it;
  • fingers gently and quickly smear it on the surface of the skin strictly against hair growth; the mass adheres tightly to the hairs and fixes them;
  • after hardening, the mass begins to roll with translational movements along the hair growth; all hairs adhering to the biomass are practically painlessly removed from the skin surface.

Use of creams

One of the most painless methods to get rid of unwanted hair is to use a special cream. It is enough for them to anoint the selected area, wait a few minutes. Its remains must be carefully removed with a napkin or a special spatula.

The composition of the depilatory cream contains active ingredients that have a destructive effect on the outer part of the hair, but do not destroy its follicles. Therefore, this procedure remains effective for only a few days.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages and disadvantages of axillary depilation depend on the chosen procedure method.

  • The advantages of a shaving razor are availability, low cost, painlessness, no ingrown hairs. The disadvantages are: the short duration of the effect, the likelihood of cuts, which then hurt for a long time, high rates of skin irritation. And also the hair after each shave becomes coarser and thicker.
  • Advantages of wax depilation: long-lasting effect, availability, low likelihood of skin irritation. The main disadvantage of the procedure is high pain during its implementation, the appearance of ingrown hairs.
  • Sugaring is recognized as one of the best methods of underarm depilation. Its positive qualities are: high efficiency, minimal pain of the procedure, hypoallergenicity, the ability to prepare sugar mass at home. A comparative disadvantage of the method is the impossibility of completely getting rid of hair in one procedure.
  • Depilatory cream has established itself as a painless depilation method that can be used on any part of the body. Its disadvantages are: possible allergic reactions to the active substance, short-term, short-term results.

Skin care after depilation

After each method of hair removal, the skin in the armpit area needs proper care. It is worth adhering to the following recommendations:

  • after removing the hairs, it is necessary to treat the area of the armpits with an antiseptic (hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine);
  • sticky marks that remain on the skin after applying sugaring or waxing should be carefully removed with warm water and a cotton swab;
  • immediately after depilation, it is permissible to apply a professional product in the form of a lotion to the skin, which can prevent the appearance of irritations, promotes healing and nourishment of the skin, and prolongs the duration of the result;
  • 1–2 days after the procedure, a soothing, toning natural oil can be applied to treat the armpit area;
  • it is forbidden to apply any deodorant agents to the armpits for the first time 24 hours after depilation.
