Parents approach the choice of a child's sleeping place very carefully. After all, a child should like it with a bright color or an interesting design. With a small children's room, you always want to save space. For this, adults often opt for a corner sofa.

Features, advantages and disadvantages

The main feature of the corner sofa in the nursery is its shape. With its help, you can create a cozy atmosphere by closing the free corner and setting up a compact place to sleep in it. For a small child under 5 years old, a small sofa up to 1.5 meters long is suitable, which when folded can serve as a chair and significantly save space for the game.

Children over 5 years old can choose models with a berth length of about 2 meters. This will be enough for them until they come of age.

The main advantage of this choice will be a wide place to relax or receive friends, where additional chairs are not required for sitting. Of course, corner designs also have disadvantages.

If the room is very small, then the corner model will look bulky due to the side backs. If you need to make a rearrangement, you need a replaceable angle, and if it is absent, this is difficult to do. To preserve the new look, it is better to order a replacement cover for the sofa.

Varieties

The range of sofas is very large. They differ not only in colors and designs, but also in the transformation mechanism.

According to the type of construction, corner sofas can be divided into 4 types.

  • Modular. Has several blocks that can be swapped if necessary.
  • Convertible sofa. Has the design of a folding bed and a sofa, a wardrobe with a shelf. A wardrobe is built into the sofa, which will save space in a small room.
  • Sofa-book. When unfolded it has a full sleeping place.
  • With interchangeable angle. Perfect for rearranging the main section to the right or left.

Upper and filler materials

When choosing a sofa, the material of the top must be taken into account. After all, children are not like adults spend their leisure time. The upholstery of the berth should be appropriate for the needs and age of the child. The fabric should be as wear-resistant and hypoallergenic as possible, so consider the following points when choosing the upper material.

  • Flock. Pleasant to the touch with a velvety surface. It removes stains well from it, is not afraid of moisture, quickly wipes off and strongly absorbs moisture. Suitable for older children.
  • Teflon fabric. Perfectly cleanable and resistant to dirt, so this coating can be used for small children.
  • Chenille. Quite resistant material to physical impact. It practically does not wear out and is perfectly cleaned of dirt.
  • Jacquard fabrics. They rub quickly and are difficult to clean.
  • Velours. Natural material with a wide range of colors. It is hypoallergenic, pleasant to the touch, and has a low cost. Wipe off quickly, leaving whole scuff marks. Poorly cleaned from dirt. Suitable for older children.

Fillers can be like this

Spring loaded

The best and safest filler for a children's sofa is a spring block. It supports the spine well and evenly distributes the load on it. Such fillers are called orthopedic. They can withstand a fairly large load, have medium hardness, long service life, do not emit harmful components and do not decompose. They do not cause allergies.

Block of dependent springs consists of a box and a spring cloth, which bends when laid on it. Such a system serves for about 10 years. Then it starts to creak and squeeze in certain places.

Block of independent springs consists of independently located individual springs, each of which is separated from the others. It can last about 10 years without defects. But it is possible to change the sagging parts of the block by replacing the sagging parts.

It has a valuable orthopedic function and a rather high price. Frames made of such structures have good air exchange and do not absorb odors.

Synthetic fillers

Despite the origin, these materials are environmentally friendly, do not cause allergies, and are not prone to the growth of fungi inside the structure.

  • There are two versions of polyurethane foam. The material can be cut into blocks or made of it into a structure. Also pour into the mold and get the finished piece of the sofa. They absorb odor, retain their shape for a long time, and have medium hardness. No orthopedic quality. Designed for small loads, respectively, for small children.
  • Structofiber has a great orthopedic function, does not absorb moisture, does not burn, hypoallergenic. It has a high price and high rigidity. A small child needs a soft padding to soften the stiffness of the sofa.
  • Polystyrene balls. This type of filler is intended for the sofa, on which the child will mainly play and sleep occasionally. The balls clearly follow the curves of the body, do not absorb moisture, do not burn. They quickly go astray and are very soft, so they do not keep the child's posture during sleep.
  • Holofiber - the most worthy of synthetic materials. Not afraid of fire and biological threats. Does not absorb moisture.

Natural materials are used less often because they are quite expensive.

  1. Latex. Produced from rubber juice. Service life up to 20 years. Has the highest orthopedic performance among natural fillers.
  2. Coconut fleece. Derived from coconut hairs.Absolutely safe and hypoallergenic. Low cost. The high degree of rigidity makes this type of filler not very comfortable for rest.
  3. Horsehair - the most convenient and expensive natural filler.

Color solutions

For the upholstery of children's sofas, bright colors are usually used that are in harmony with the design of the room. They can be combined with images of cartoon characters or flowers for girls and cars for boys.

They can contain several colors. For girls, pink shades are usually selected with the addition of white or orange colors. Boys love light blue, navy and khaki.

Selection Tips

So that the purchased model will serve for a long time and please your child, and also does not take up much space in the room, before buying, decide on a few nuances.

      • What function is the sofa most needed for? It will be an option for a game or an overnight stay, meeting the child's friends. If this is a sleeping place for two, then the sofa should be laid out in width. If this is for two boys, then you can choose a model with two corners so that each of the guys has his own space.
      • Before buying a sofa with a specific upper material, take your child with you to the furniture store and ask their opinion on the choice of fabric. Let him touch the finished models with his hands. The fabric must be environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic.
      • The mechanism of the sofa should be simple and safe for the child.
      • Protruding and rigid parts must be absent.
      • The sleeping place should be about 80 cm wide and half a meter longer than the child's height.
      • There should be no differences in height on the bed.
      • The height of the sofa should be appropriate for the child's age.
