How to disassemble a corner sofa?
It is impractical and difficult to transport the sofa in the assembled state, and it is not at all possible to place it in an elevator that is not intended for transporting goods of different weights and sizes, and in a truck, the sofa will capture most of the free space. However, there is a way out - this is to transport it in a disassembled state. And how to do it - read in our publication.
What do you need?
There are 2 types of corner sofas:
- products containing a 3 or 2-seater unit, supplemented by a sofa located perpendicularly;
- models containing a 3 or 2-seat block, connected by means of a corner element.
Such sofas have differences in structure and connecting mechanisms and, of course, different assembly patterns. However, regardless of the structure, it is possible to disassemble the corner sofa, adhering to the same principle, only with certain clarifications.
To take the sofa apart, you need the following.
- Screwdriver. It would be nice to have a few, given the shape: flat and cruciform.
- Pliers (small and large).
- Wrenches (preferably a complete set for dismantling the mount).
- Furniture stapler. Sometimes the fasteners are hidden under the upholstery, you will need to unfasten it and fix it back.
- Screwdriver (with a set of bits).
- Packing material (thick polyethylene, large and small bags for fasteners).
- Corrugated cardboard.
Corner sofa schemes
Carefully read the assembly / disassembly diagram of your sofa, if available, or search on the Internet.
Corner sofas are much more massive than wall sofas.Among other things, they have a more complex design, therefore, more effort will be needed to disassemble such a modification.
What is the Corner Model? These are 2 complete sleeping places that are combined with a corner component. Individual sofas have one side smaller than the other. The seats and backs can be made in the form of removable cushions or combined into a whole block that cannot be disassembled. A drawer for bed linen and accessories integrated into the side component sometimes serves as an additional component.
Step-by-step instruction
In our case, the parsing order will be as follows.
- First of all free the furniture from the cover and remove the pillows as far as possible, so that they do not get dirt and dust during operation. Remove from furniture everything that can be removed without the use of tools - armrests, pillows.
- Pulling the sofa to the middle of the room or we move it away from the wall at a distance that is acceptable for work.
- Examine the fastening elements. This is necessary in order to determine the need for additional dismantling tools. Keep in mind: in the case when the mechanisms are hidden under the upholstery and fixed with mounting brackets, it is necessary to invite a disassembly specialist, because a special construction gun is required to disassemble such a structure. It is unreasonable to purchase this toolkit for one-time disassembly.
- Next, remove the sidewalls, and in certain modifications, first of all, we dismantle the tension bar on the back of the furniture.
- After that detaching the seat elements, or both parts of a corner component.
- Exploring the short part... If the frame is connected to the seat with special fasteners, it is necessary to unscrew the nuts and remove the soft part. If there is a backrest on the short part, we dismantle it.
- Leave the corner piece unchanged.
- We get down to the analysis of the main part... This procedure depends on the type of transforming device in your furniture. Typically, in modern sofas, the bedding drawer is usually one piece that can be disassembled. If the back and seat with the transformation mechanism are a single unit, then only specialists can disassemble it (by and large, it is considered a non-separable mechanism).
- The final stage. The furniture is disassembled, it remains only to thoroughly pack all the components in order to prevent damage during movement and transportation.
Packing recommendations
We pack the sofa like this.
- The sides are packed in pairs.
- The remaining components of the structure must be packed separately. Wrap it thoroughly with polyethylene and transfer it to corrugated cardboard, then wrap everything tightly with tape.
- The non-separable seat and backrest, as far as possible, are pressed together.
- Fold all the fasteners separately and sign them so that there is no confusion during the assembly process.
Dismantling with your own hands does not take much time, however, it removes a significant proportion of the load when moving and transporting pieces of furniture.
