Baydarskie gates in Crimea: history and location

Description
The Baydar Gate is construction, which is located above sea level above the rest of the buildings - 503 meters. With its complex architecture, intricate cornice, small columns, a luxurious observation deck on the roof, the Baydar Gate is somewhat reminiscent of an antique portico. During construction, only stone and limestone were involved. Moreover, pedestals located on both sides of the building are also built of similar material.
And in one, the right one used to be a service building, about 30 sq. meters, where various inventory was kept. To date, all doors and windows are carefully walled up.
The gates are so narrow that 2 cars can hardly miss each other, therefore there is a detour nearby. You can climb to the roof by a specially built staircase and from there look out over the Crimea, admiring the Black Sea, a picturesque valley, high mountains and green thickets. In summer, from the observation deck, you can see a dazzling landscape of picturesque beauty of the southern part of the peninsula.And in winter - a mesmerizing area, which with its cold shades creates a real harmony of pristine nature. History of appearance
Being on the Baydarsky Pass, about half a kilometer above sea level, you can easily admire the marvelous natural landscapes that open around you. At the same time, the air temperature in summer is very comfortable and keeps at around +25 degrees. There are almost no mosquitoes and mosquitoes. All this was noticed back in tsarist times, when there was nothing here at all, only one primordial nature.
But already in 1837, the Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory M.S.Vorontsov personally headed the construction of a new highway that stretched from Alupka to Sevastopol, passing along the coast by the village of Baydary, as if sawing a mountain range. As a result, the pass got its name from the specified village and began to be called Baydarsky. And after that he descends to the village of Foros.
After the completion of all the work, which had been carried out for almost 10 years, in 1849 a beautiful structure of architecture was installed on the pass - The Baydar Gate, erected in a strict classical style with stones and limestone. K.I.Elishman is considered to be their author. They instantly became a strategic destination and destination for many travelers.
In 1962, the modern Sevastopol-Yalta highway was built, as it is considered to be shorter and safer. However, the old tract, which rarely has recently been traveled by, as a rule, makes it possible to ride very close to the mountains, overcoming the serpentines and at the same time admiring the nature with small hills that opens before our eyes. The path can never be overgrown, because thrill-seekers simply will not allow it to be done.
Many cultural figures who have visited the gate before in order to relax a little, admire the views, get inspiration, then left their own impressions in the written works, which anyone can familiarize themselves with.
For example, L. Ukrainka, V. V. Mayakovsky and other writers and poets have been there.
Until the 30s of the last century, there were 2 hotels near the gates, where travelers could spend the night. There was also a post office and a small restaurant, which still stands in the same place, not stopping to function to this day. And you shouldn't forget about the nearby local spring, thanks to which tired travelers can easily quench their thirst by drinking the purest mountain water before a long journey.
Thus, the pass, as well as the arch located on it, are considered not only the most beautiful place, but also the most important strategic object, which was proved in November 1941, when the Soviet border guards held the defense for almost the whole day.
Of course, as a result, very few heroes remained, however, this helped to stop the offensive of the Nazis. Now all this means little, than once in the past, everything has changed a lot. More modern and safer roads were built, new monuments were erected, however, the tourist significance of this object remained the same.
Where are they located and how to get there?
The Baydar Gate is located between two amazing mountains - Chelby and Chhu-Bair. They represent an unusual entrance to the southern Crimea, along which the Sevastopol - Yalta highway passes, and from where you can get to the Baydarskaya Valley through the small village of Foros. Getting to the gate is very easy. There are several ways to help you do this.
You can buy any excursion. A visit to this cultural monument, as a rule, is included in every popular route offered to tourists. Perhaps it will be "Ai-Petri - sea trip - Yalta", "Big Yalta" and the like.
In addition, it is advisable to start your journey from the direction of Sevastopol, because in this direction the various landscapes for which the peninsula is famous show themselves from a more advantageous side.
You can find out a large number of fascinating facts about this area by walking, adding the Baydar Pass to your route. You can also come by private car or take a taxi, you just need to go along the Yalta-Sevastopol highway, guided by the established signs. It is impossible to get lost even at night. The place is located very close to the road.

Many tourists come to the Baydar Gate every year. And the locals are also not averse to coming here. Therefore, enterprising sellers of souvenir products are happy to trade here, offering crafts made of wood, stone, sets of essential oils, fascinating literature, beautiful paintings, postcards and much more interesting. Also, very close to the famous restaurant "Shalash", where you can easily order dishes and Crimean wines for every taste.
Not far away, a few kilometers away, at an altitude of 402 meters above sea level, is the legendary Foros Church, where they not only pray, light candles, purchase religious goods, but also admire the landscape while on the terrace of the temple. You can get there if you go down a little from the gate. During the period of its existence, the church was built only 2 times. The first one was in 1892. The second - after the collapse of the Soviet Union, when at first there was a tourist center, then a restaurant, in the end everything fell into complete decay.
However, the time has come when the complete restoration took place at the highest level, quite worthy. On the cliff where the temple now stands, there are countless viewing platforms open. Thanks to this, you can easily feel the greatness of the surrounding nature.
In addition, the beauty of this picturesque architecture is visible not only from above, from the side of the pass, but also from below, from the road or from the village of Foros, above which it is located.
It is also worth paying attention to Foros park with an area of 70 hectares, which is in no way inferior to the famous Nikitsky Garden. All kinds of flower beds, rose gardens, lawns are tastefully equipped here, on which not only local, but also imported outlandish plants grow. In addition, there are ponds, lakes and reservoirs, through which unusual figured bridges are scattered.
In addition, natural tourism is superbly developed in this place: the famous Laspinsky pass, Chernorechensky canyon. There are also a large number of different caves "scattered" here. And in one of them - Skelskaya you can even go down. Or just go for a swim in the Chernorechensky reservoir. Thus, in "Crimean Switzerland", where everything is visible at a glance.
