How to make holey jeans at home?
It is not known who and when first began to wear ripped jeans as a kind of fashionable "trick", but this man has found many followers around the world. It is difficult to unequivocally answer the question of why holey denim pants have gained such popularity. For some, they have become a means of self-expression, for others - a stylish element of clothing, and someone admits that the holes provide excellent ventilation of the body in the hot season.
One way or another, today leaky jeans are an absolute fashion trend. In this article, we will tell you how to get such a thing without harming your wallet.
Where are the holes made?
How does a regular hole differ from a branded one?
Walking through the malls, you probably noticed that branded ripped jeans are sometimes much more expensive than whole pants from the same manufacturer.And the difference between them and pants from an ordinary economy class store can be several tens of thousands of rubles. It is quite natural that the question arises in my head: "How are the holes specially made at the production stage so different from those that appeared by chance?"
For example, branded jeans are torn in such a way that underwear does not show through the holes.
In fact, the difference is not that great. The only thing that matters is the place where the hole appeared and its shape. The holes on these pants look casual, but you can see that their edges are carefully processed, and the fabric around them has a worn effect. You can achieve a similar effect at home: read more about this below.
Step-by-step instructions: make a hole with your own hands
First you need to stock up on the necessary tools. So, to make nice holes on jeans we may need:
- jeans themselves (for the first time it is better to choose worn-out pants, or a new thing from an inexpensive company);
- sharp scissors;
- a well-sharpened knife or stationery cutter;
- sewing ripper;
- thick cardboard or a piece of plywood board;
- pumice stone, nail file, or sandpaper;
- crayon, soap, or washable marker.
Next, you need to choose the places in which we will make holes. We mark future holes directly on the fabric.
Now you need to make a small cut somewhere in an inconspicuous place and examine the weaving of the fabric. Denim is composed of white and colored threads that are perpendicular to each other. We need to know how the white threads go - horizontally or vertically, so as not to accidentally damage them.
Let's start working on the first hole. Armed with a knife, in one motion we make a cut parallel to the white threads. Then, a few centimeters from it, we make a second cut (so as not to cut through the jeans, put a piece of cardboard in the leg).
Now you need to carefully pull out all the white threads between the two cuts without breaking them. We simply pull out the blue threads and cut them off. It is most convenient to pull and cut threads using a special sewing tool - a sewing machine.
As a result, we have a neat rectangular gap. With a little practice, you can learn how to make holes in the form of various shapes. To prevent the hole from spreading, we will sew it along the edges with threads to match the jeans.
How to make a hole beautifully if the jeans have torn themselves?
If your favorite jeans are torn, there may be several solutions to the problem. A hole that appears in an inconspicuous place can be carefully darned.
If the seam is conspicuous, it is better to choose another method, for example, to sew an applique or a patch from another material on the torn area.
Another good option is to make the "random" hole look stylish. First, the hole must be carefully torn to a suitable size. Then remove the protruding blue threads and draw out the white ones.
The lace peeping through the hole will look spectacular.
Lace patches should be sewn on the wrong side of the jeans
Whitewashed slots
Denim bleaching is often used by fashion manufacturers. These things look like they have been worn for years, but in reality they are completely new. Bleached areas on holey jeans look especially impressive. It is quite possible to make such an unusual decor with your own hands.
At home, chlorine-based bleaches are the most readily available bleach products. To whiten small areas on jeans, you only need a few milliliters of chlorinated product. Apply a small amount of bleach to a sponge and then blot the fabric around the holes with it.
Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then wash off with plenty of warm water (or better yet, put your pants in the washing machine).
To avoid chemical burns on the skin, work with rubber gloves
Add a scuff effect
You can create the appearance of aged jeans not only with the help of chemicals, but also mechanically. In order to get scuffs on the fabric, it is enough to simply process it with an improvised tool with an abrasive effect. Usually, manicure tools or sandpaper are used for this purpose.
Before starting work, you should wet your jeans and put something hard inside the leg, otherwise you will get through holes instead of spectacular scuffs. On wet jeans, the result will appear faster, just do not forget to squeeze the pants well. Do not rub too hard until the fabric lightens noticeably. With the help of pumice, you can make very weak, neat scuffs.
The finer the grains on a nail file or sandpaper, the longer it will take.
