The reasons that prompted you to create fashionable scuffs on jeans can be very different. Whether it's looking to make your outdated pants look more stylish or trying to give accidentally torn jeans a second chance.

This must be done correctly! And how to achieve the effect of antiquity on jeans - perfectly new or fairly worn - we will tell you in our article.

Check out the following video for easy enough ways to turn old jeans into trendy ones.

What jeans should I wear?

If you think that absolutely any denim pants are ready for such a metamorphosis, you are wrong. The list of prohibitions is small, but pay attention to it.

The following jeans may not be shredded:

  • from too thin denim material (will not hold its shape);
  • from highly stretch fabrics (they will quickly creep, they will look completely sloppy);
  • wide, shapeless, irrelevant style (even this stylish element will not make them fashionable).

As for the permitted material, any medium to high density denim is a safe bet.

It doesn't matter what kind of jeans you decide to cover with artificial scuffs - new or old. Their age and degree of deterioration will not simplify or complicate the task. There is a lot of work to be done. And how exactly this happens, you will find out later.

Popular methods

There are many techniques and tricks to create a trendy, antique look on jeans. Consider the most popular and proven ones.

Option one - emery and tweezers

To use this method, prepare the following materials:

  • a sheet of fine-grained sandpaper (if not available, you can replace it with a hard pumice stone or a fine kitchen grater);
  • eyebrow tweezers (or a crochet hook - it is more convenient for someone to wield it);
  • sharpened chalk (remnant, or even a pencil / pen).

Then get down to work, following our algorithm.

  1. Mark the places for future fashion touches on the jeans. To do this, take a piece of chalk (remnant / pen / pencil) and mark the appropriate places. In order not to miscalculate with the outlines, you can put on jeans before that. Ideal will be those places where jeans are most often wiped by themselves. Don't be limited to the front of your pants. The back pockets are also a great place for stylish scuffs.
  2. Before the direct manufacture of scuffs as planned, it is advisable to moisten the jeans (wet and wring out). Therefore, it is best to mark with a pen. Although crayons are also quite persistent. Now you can walk with sandpaper or a float on the marked areas. If you want a more ragged effect, make a small cut in the middle of each mark.
  3. Now we use tweezers or a hook. Each abrasion must be processed as follows: gradually remove the transverse threads (blue) from them. In this case, it is important to strictly leave all longitudinal threads (white) in their places.
  4. The final stage of this metamorphosis of jeans is the machine wash. She will bring the aging process to its logical conclusion.

Option two - "Whiteness to help"

This method means that no physical violence will have to be applied to the jeans. The scuff effect will be achieved due to the optical technique - bleaching of some areas on the jeans fabric. And such arts can be achieved with two different techniques.

Whitening with a brush

For such a bold artistic experiment, stock up on the following tools:

  • a paintbrush (# 3 or # 5, pony or squirrel - decide for yourself; an alternative tool is a regular dishwashing sponge);
  • medium wash basin;
  • bleach;
  • a piece of hard cardboard or plywood (to put jeans under the treated area);
  • rubber gloves.

When everything you need is ready, start this creative process, guided by our instructions:

  1. In a basin, dilute the bleaching agent with water in a 1: 1 ratio.
  2. As soon as the places of the “scuffs” to be produced are marked (for this you can use point 1 of the manual described above), place cardboard or plywood under them. These manipulations are precautions (so as not to get "scuffs" where they should not).
  3. Put on your gloves and start applying the solution to the jeans using the tool of your choice (brush or sponge).
  4. Check the maximum fabric exposure times for your bleach. You will find all the information you need on its packaging. And let the product sit on the jeans for the required time (according to the instructions).
  5. After the required period, rinse the pants thoroughly in cold water, then dry (it is better to use several rinses with intermediate and final spin in the washing machine). At the end, you should have jeans with a visual imitation of scuffs, but the integrity of the fabrics will remain intact.
  6. If you wish, you can combine this method with the one described earlier. In this case, mutilate the bleached areas of the jeans, as shown in the instructions for the first method for making scuffs on jeans.

Another way to artificially age jeans with bleach is by lump bleaching.

This technique will not only help imitate scuffs, but also create a trendy print around the perimeter of all jeans, on both sides!

You will need:

  • medium wash basin;
  • bleach;
  • hair ties (white);
  • rubber gloves.

The beauty of this method is that it can be called an alternative for the lazy. There is no need to outline and figure anything here - everything is done "by eye", because the charm of such a decor is precisely in abstraction and confusion.

The algorithm of actions is simple:

  1. Tie the jeans in a knot as shown in the photo. In some places, randomly pull small tufts of denim with elastic bands.
  2. Moisten the resulting package under clean running water.
  3. Put on rubber gloves and place the jeans in a mixture of water and bleach (1: 1) for the time allowed by the instructions.
  4. After the required time has elapsed, rinse the jeans under running water, gradually removing the elastic bands and straightening the knot. Then rinse and dry in a typewriter.
  5. Once dry, your jeans are transformed beyond recognition!

Advice

Anyone who will scuff jeans for the first time should familiarize themselves with these important recommendations:

  • If you don't feel confident enough, practice on an unwanted piece of jeans first. In order to fully fill your hand in this matter, you can buy a pair of unnecessary jeans in a second hand especially for such an occasion.
  • During fake aging, avoid processing jeans in the seam area - this can lead to the fact that they creep in the most inappropriate place.
  • Bleach scuffs can be varied by treating them with fabric paint. This guarantees an even more original and unique fashionable effect.
  • Vertical oblong scuffs can visually lengthen the legs and correct the figure.
  • Strengthen your jeans where they are worn to make them last longer. To do this, treat them from the inside with interlining or any other soft adhesive cloth.
