Many children take an interest in music quite early on. Often the choice of the child falls on the electric guitar, because with it you can perform a variety of melodies. The task of the parents is to help the young musician choose the right instrument and support him in his creative endeavors.

Before buying such a thing, it is worth finding out how the different types of guitars differ. Tools are divided into several types.

  • Classic... They have a small body, nylon strings, 12 frets and a wide neck.
  • Acoustic... The body is larger than the classic, and the neck is narrower. The strings are metal, with a strong tension.
  • Electronic... A pickup is installed on them, which converts the vibrations of the strings into signals and transmits it to the amplifier. The strings are made of metal. Some instruments are equipped with additional touch panels.

Usually, they suggest choosing the classics as the first children's guitar. These models, with softer strings and a small body, are more comfortable for beginners, and they are also cheaper, which can be an important argument for parents. Also, in music schools, they often teach to play the classical guitar.

Nevertheless, a kid's electric guitar can be a great option too... Of course, you will have to spend money on additional equipment: an amplifier, pedals for playing, but such an instrument opens up much more possibilities. Despite the fact that these models come with metal strings, they are softer than acoustic ones, so they are also suitable for beginners.

It is recommended to play music with children from 5 years old. At this age, they already have sufficiently developed motor skills to cope with the instrument.

The first electronic guitar should be the right size for the child, so you need to choose a smaller version.

Many manufacturers produce instruments for young musicians. You can pay attention to the following guitars.

  • Aria Stg-Mini 3TS. It has 22 frets, a basswood body, and a maple neck. The scaled-down model is suitable for a child.
  • Fender Squier Mini Strat V2 TRD... A bright instrument with red trim. The fretboard has 20 frets. Designed for 7-11 years.
  • Flight Est11 3TS... It has a soft and melodious sound, a good option for beginners.
  • Rocket ST-32 SB 32... Inexpensive model for a child. Has 22 frets.
  • Jackson js series dinky minion... A compact instrument with a powerful sound.

Most electronic models are designed for children 7-11 years old. As a rule, it is at this age that many begin to make music.

If your child has shown interest before, you need to look for a tool marked 1/4 - this is the smallest size, designed for 4-6 years.

How to choose?

When buying, it is important not to miss the size. If the instrument is uncomfortable to hold, it is too bulky or heavy, then the child will quickly lose the desire to play music. Guitars for children have certain markings:

  • 1/4 - suitable for height less than 110 cm;
  • 1/2 or overall length - for those who have not yet reached 130 cm;
  • 3/4 or 36 inch - for height up to 155 cm.

If a teenager has already stepped over these parameters, you can safely buy him an "adult" guitar. For girls, it is better to choose musical instruments made from lighter woods. When buying, take your child with you to the store: let him hold the guitar in his hands, make sure that nothing bothers him.

Lefties are also not deprived of the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar, although the choice of models in this case will be less, especially when it comes to small instruments. Nevertheless, picking up something for a child of 10-12 years old will no longer be a problem.

In terms of cost, it is better to focus on the middle category. Very cheap guitars sound bad, and learning with them will be sheer torment. When buying, do not forget to take a good look at the product. It is important to consider the following:

  • it is important that there are no cracks and other damage on the case, swollen varnish;
  • the neck should be straight along its entire length;
  • twist the tuning pegs: in a high-quality model, they move smoothly and silently;
  • the sounding of the strings ideally lasts the same amount of time.

Color and design do not matter much and do not affect functional qualities. But it is important that the child likes the instrument, so it is better to take into account the wishes in this regard.

Some parents see children's tools in supermarkets that are marketed as an option for beginners. However, such products are more of a low quality toy that differs markedly from real guitars. If a child really wants to make music, it is better to choose a good model for him from a trusted manufacturer.

The tool can also be purchased on the Internet if you are confident in the reliability of the store, but in this case, pay special attention to the delivery. The guitar is quite fragile and easily damaged, so it is important that the carrier acts carefully.
