What types of electric guitars are there?

The electric guitar is an insanely popular musical instrument. It gives out a special rich sound. There are many different models of electric guitars on the market today. Let's find out what types of these popular instruments are subdivided into.

Historical views
An electric guitar is a type of guitar in which electromagnetic pickups are provided that convert the vibrations of the strings through an acoustic system. Currently, the range of these musical instruments is simply huge.
Guitarists can choose for themselves both budget and very expensive professional options.
However, before you get acquainted with the characteristics of modern models, it's worth learning more about the historical types of electric guitars.
- Semi-acoustic and jazz guitars... These types of musical instruments are more archaic. Models of this type are almost always old. Currently, they are practically not produced. The only exceptions are collection options that are suitable for true connoisseurs of retro sound. The instruments in question look gorgeous and are expensive. It is not very convenient for beginner guitarists to play such guitars.

- Telecaster... Simply put, this is the first electric guitar. These models are provided with a single-body pair. The Telecaster produces a very sonorous, but at the same time slightly dirty sound with a metallic color. There are a lot of musicians who are lovers of this sound, as it brings back memories of the Rolling Stones era.It is possible to learn how to play a telecaster guitar, but getting a complete picture of the current sound is rather difficult.

Modern models
Historical types of electric guitars attract musicians with their special unique sound. But such products are not very common today, which cannot be said about fresh modifications. Let's find out what specific types of stringed instruments we are talking about.
- Fender... Leo Fender developed one of the first-class guitars - the electric guitar called the Stratocaster. It is an instrument with singles, 22 frets, 650 mm scale. Such tools are distinguished by a one-sided device. In their design there is a neck, which is attached to the body part by means of screws. A little later, strata were added, differing in mixed-type schemes, where there were also humbuckers. But it is worth noting that the historically considered model is tailored for singles. That is why the characteristics of the stratocaster are more "single-coil".

- Gibson... Fender Gibson has developed a guitar of this type that bears little resemblance to the options discussed above. This copy is called "Lespol". It is a small instrument with a scale of 630 mm. There are two humbuckers here, the simplest bridge holders, and a glued-in neck. The sound of the forest floor is powerful but warm. These guitars are made graceful and presentable, have a body part with an upper half of a convex structure.

Despite the graceful appearance, the instruments in question are very often used to perform heavy tracks.
- Ibanez... The Ibanez company continued and developed well the activities of all its predecessors. She produced signature strings for famous guitarists and true virtuosos. At the request of its customers, the manufacturer resorted to the use of the most non-standard solutions. Electric guitars "Ibanez" are equipped with the most elongated necks (only 24 frets), have a rather aggressive design, as well as combined pickup schemes.

These instruments can be used for a variety of purposes, but they are usually very complex and intricate music to play. Learning to play on the models in question is not worth it, since it is too difficult.
Varieties of cases
Electric guitars are also divided according to the type of body that is included in its design. Different options look different and have different structures.
Stratocaster
This form of electric stringed instruments is rightfully recognized as one of the most popular. The first model to have a similar structure was the Fender Stratocaster, invented by Leo Fender in 1954. The soundboard in such guitars is supplemented with recesses on the body under the arm and under the belly of the guitarist.

Classic versions of guitars with the considered body shape are made from natural wood. In most cases, ash or alder is used. Stratoxters have 22 frets and 3 single coil pickups. The tremolo system acts as a bridge of structures, which is designed specifically for instruments with a similar body.
Telecaster
Telecaster is considered the predecessor of the stratocaster discussed above... The device of such a case was also invented by Leo Fender in the 1940s. It was the telecaster that was the first solid-body guitar that at one time gained insane popularity.

The classic version of the telecaster in most cases is assembled from natural ash or alder. The electric guitars in question are equipped with a pair of single coil pickups. The strings are then attached through the body, and the bridge is fixed. Telecasters scale up to 25.5 inches. There is a quality neck that is assembled from a single piece of maple, but without the addition of a fretboard. Telecasters usually have 22 frets.
Lespol
The body of this type, like the stratocaster, is rightfully recognized one of the most common in the world. Similar structures consist of 3 parts: a deck and a pair of overlays (tops). The deck and neck in these body bases are most often made from high quality mahogany. The top is made from natural maple.

Scale of Les Paul guitars - 24.75 inches. They have 22 frets. There are also 2 humbuckers and a fixed bridge on the design. Other types of guitars may have characteristics other than those listed.
SG
This type of hull was created as an updated version of Lespal. Guitars of such a device are made with one piece body. They are complemented by a double cutout to make it easier to reach the frets from the top. The most common SG hulls are assembled from redwoods. There is also a fixed bridge and 2 humbuckers.

Flying V and King V
Another name for such enclosures is arrow... Such a device appeared on the electric guitar market in 1958. Strings with these bodies are more aggressive in design, with pointed horns and a distinctive cut. Many famous rock musicians often use electric guitars with such brutal body components.

Randy rhoads
The body of these guitars has shortened horn... Tools with these bodies look more aggressive due to the presence of corresponding edges. Randy Rhoads type guitars are usually made of maple necks and alder bodies. The neck is attached to the body with bolts.

Explorer
A popular body type among musicians, performing hard rock... The top instruments of this configuration are made from mahogany. Also in their device there is a glued-in neck with black wood overlays. The instruments are equipped with 2 humbuckers and a fixed bridge.

Superstat
This is a modified stratocaster... Usually there are more frets - 24, there may be a variety of pickup combinations. The shape of the body is designed to be very ergonomic. There is a noticeable lengthening of the horns here for better reach of the upper frets.

How to choose?
Currently, electric guitars of various types are produced by many well-known (and not so) manufacturers. There are many different string instruments to choose from for both beginners and experienced musicians. Consider what you should pay attention to in search of "your" electric guitar.
- First of all, you should start from your level of electric guitar proficiency... If you are just learning to play it, then you should buy a simpler and cheaper model. Expensive professional guitars will be available later.
- You need to decide on the specific type of tool body. Each of the options has its own characteristics and equipment. In the store, it is worth considering all the available modifications in order to subsequently dwell on one of them.
- It is necessary to understand the quality characteristics of the tool... In how many strings and frets it has, what pickups are present, what kind of wood the musical structure is assembled from, and so on. Find an electric guitar that suits you perfectly.
- It is recommended to hold the instrument in your hands before purchasing and to sort out the strings a little. Thus, you can understand whether this or that tool is right for you or not. It is better to buy the kind of guitar that you find most comfortable, especially if you are purchasing it for training.
- Buy only branded electric guitars... Musical instruments from well-known manufacturers are of higher quality, good sound and attractive design.
