How to care for flowers in a sponge box?
Flowers are a great gift for any occasion, because they are always relevant. In order for the bouquet to delight with its beauty as long as possible, the florists came up with the use of special sponges that replace the soil and allow the plants to be nourished with moisture. The duration of flowering and fragrance of cut flowers depends on the ability to care for them, water them correctly and not make gross mistakes.
Flower arrangement device
Floristic foam has been used relatively recently, but has already firmly won the love and popularity of florists and designers. This material resembles a sponge, but the composition is radically different. The flower sponge is also called bioflora, piaflora and oasis. Due to the special structure of the product, flowers and other natural materials can be placed in it at different angles, creating unique compositions.
You can work with piaflora using freshly cut flowers, dry plants that do not need to be moistened, as well as artificial flowers. Due to this variety of options, there are three varieties of floristic foam that vary in color.
- Green is for fresh flowers or freshly cut plants. Thanks to the foamy substance from which the material is made, moisture is well retained in it, which nourishes the plants.
- Gray is used for compositions made from natural materials that do not need moisture.
- Brown is suitable for compositions of dried flowers and artificial flowers.
In appearance, bioflora can take the form:
- bricks;
- ball;
- cone;
- cylinder.
Modern flower arrangements have a wide variety of looks. This is achieved in various ways. Flowers can be placed:
- in a cardboard box;
- in a wooden box or casket;
- in a decorative basket.
To create a bouquet, a container is selected that corresponds to the future composition, a floral foam of the desired color is laid on the bottom, after which flowers, leaves, spikelets and other elements are inserted into it.
The sponge can be given any shape based on the shape of the bottom of the container, where the flowers will be placed.
If live plants are used, then the sponge must first be moistened with a nutrient composition that will moisturize the crops and lengthen their life cycle as much as possible. In order for the bioflora to be nourished evenly, it is placed in a nutrient solution and left there until it sinks to the bottom of the container. If you press on the sponge, it will absorb liquid unevenly.
How to properly water a bouquet?
Bouquets that are placed in boxes, boxes or baskets do not need a vase, which simplifies the maintenance process. As with any other plants, flowers in a floral sponge need light and moisture, therefore it is recommended to place the bouquet in the most illuminated part of the room, organizing watering as needed.
The procedure for introducing moisture can be carried out as follows:
- pick up a bottle with a thin neck to gently pour in the right amount of water;
- use a small watering can, which will ensure that the liquid gets only on the sponge;
- use a kettle with a narrow spout if there are no other more convenient options at hand;
- use a large syringe to quickly and easily add a certain amount of water to the bioflora.
When wetting the floral foam, it is important to water the sponge itself, avoiding contact between water and plant heads to minimize the risk of fungal diseases. If dry or rotten leaves appear, they must be cut off immediately. The dried buds are also removed to maintain the attractive appearance of the bouquet.
Once all the flowers are dry, the sponge can be used again, you just need to wash it well and dry it completely.
The process of moistening flowers in floristic foam involves the use of ordinary tap water or filtered liquid. It is recommended to stand it for a few hours before applying to normalize the temperature and allow the volatile chlorine compounds to escape. If you use a cool liquid, the processes inside the plants will slow down, and when watered with very warm water, on the contrary, they will accelerate. Correctly chosen temperature range and watering frequency allow you to enjoy the attractiveness of the bouquet for as long as possible.
Watering frequency of flowers
It is not difficult to take care of a floristic composition placed in bioflora, it is only important to know certain patterns:
- watering must be carried out every day, pouring a small amount of liquid onto the edges of the sponge and into the center;
- it is better to pour in more water than to leave the oasis partially dry, as this will lead to the death of the flowers in the bouquet;
- for irrigation, you need to use only settled and filtered water, which will prevent heavy metals from entering the bioflora.
When caring for flowers in a box with a sponge, it is important not to take them out of the oasis, otherwise the plants will quickly die. Watering the flowers should be carried out every day, and the amount of moisture should be determined taking into account the temperature and humidity level in the room. The easiest way to test bioflora is to simply click on it. If moisture comes out of the sponge and there is enough of it, then the amount of liquid for irrigation has been chosen correctly. When almost no water comes out of the foam, you should correct the procedure for moisturizing the bouquet. If the oasis is completely dry, there is a high risk of plant death and the sponge needs immediate watering.
In a hot room, moisturizing the upper part of the plant is indispensable. It is convenient to do this with a spray bottle.Processing the leaves with a wet rag will also be a useful measure for maintaining and moisturizing the bouquet.
With proper care, flowers in a basket can last from 2 weeks to a month, retaining their attractiveness and aroma.
Frequent mistakes
When buying or receiving a bouquet placed in a floral sponge, it is important to know the main mistakes that significantly shorten the life cycle of cut flowers.
- There is no need to remove the plants from the sponge, there is no need to cut them, since the florists themselves have already made the optimal length of the stem. With any manipulation of the stems, the risk of injury and rapid wilting of the crop increases.
- You should not water the bouquet with water poured directly from the tap, as it contains a large amount of harmful substances, and the temperature may not correspond to room temperature, which will negatively affect the viability of the plant.
- Do not swap the flowers in the bioflora. Florists arrange plants in such a way that they not only have a presentable appearance, but also combine with each other. If you change the order of the plants in the bouquet, this can provoke their faster wilting.
- There is no need to place the bouquet in direct sunlight: they burn the leaves and petals of flowers and significantly shorten their life cycle.
- When choosing a place for a bouquet, you should abandon the neighborhood with fruits and vegetables, as they produce special substances that have a negative effect on plants.
- You should not place the bouquet near heat sources, as they will dry out moisture faster.
If you properly care for bouquets in boxes, boxes and baskets, guided by all the recommendations, you can enjoy the aroma and beautiful view of a wide variety of flower arrangements for a long time.
