Playing with dolls has been known to everyone since childhood. Both girls and boys play with them. And even some adults, having become completely independent individuals, continue to get carried away with these toys. There are people who collect the most beautiful and oldest pieces.

However, in our society there are also individuals who not only do not like dolls, but are also very afraid of them. Experts say that they suffer from pediophobia in one form or another.

What it is?

This disease is characterized by fear of a variety of dolls (mannequins, robots), from very expensive porcelain beauties to ordinary dolls... Phobia manifests itself with a fleeting glance at any thing that imitates a person or other living creature.

Fear of dolls is a mental disorder. Next to him is a disease called glenophobia. It is expressed in the fear of the doll's gaze. It seems to people with various mental disorders that the doll follows the movements of a person with its eyes.

This anxiety state in different individuals manifests itself in different ways. Someone does not focus on this problem at all, someone is afraid of absolutely all dolls, and someone panics when they see a kind of toy with one eye. So far, experts cannot accurately answer the question of why this disease occurs.

However, the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud tried to put forward a theory: children perceive the world of dolls as reality, and, perhaps, the most impressionable, due to some strong shock, begin to feel fear of these objects.

All this happens because it is common for a child to flirt. Because of what he confuses the real world with the world of toys.It seems to him that dolls can come to life when everyone is asleep.

Night is the time for them to awaken. And at night, as usual, all the innermost fears are realized. So, a simple fear develops into a persistent phobia.

Psychologists say that you should not choose dolls for children, whose eyes are very similar to human ones.

The object for the game should not have a lively look. And if you bought fun for your child, then watch his behavior. If the little man avoids the doll, then he is afraid of her. He will not be able to explain his condition. Therefore, adults must see for themselves some of the anxiety.

If the child's fear is noticeable, then you need to eliminate it as follows:

  • take the toy out of sight;
  • do not under any circumstances visit wax exhibitions;
  • try to keep your child away from the mannequins in the store.

Remember children are impressionable. Any child can look at a mannequin or an unusual life size puppet, his visual perception will provoke dissonance in consciousness, and this moment can be the beginning of the development of a serious illness.

In no case should such situations be allowed when the child is suddenly afraid that a large doll has appeared in front of his eyes. Especially children and adults are frightened by clowns in bright outfits with a big mouth, they look like dolls.

Negative experiences will lead to the child developing a phobia.

Further, your baby will inevitably grow up, and she may calm down a little. All this will happen due to the fact that he will certainly have other interests. And if his life proceeds calmly and without any shocks, then the phobia will not manifest itself in the future. Nevertheless, adult life is always filled with bright events, among them there may be those that are negative.

For example, a person has a terrible grief or he has experienced severe mental suffering. Then the individual can develop a neurosis. And this state almost always awakens latent fears in the mind of a person.

They suddenly appear and burst out. Then the individual, in order to protect his condition from deterioration, tries to avoid contact with dolls. Thus in adults, a protective barrier is triggered.

That is why men and women in adulthood almost do not watch films, where the plot involves the sudden revival of dolls and their bloodthirstiness in relation to a person. It should be noted that people with a completely healthy psyche do not need to get carried away with such pictures, and even more so to attract young children with a fragile psyche to watching.

Some moments may remain in the subconscious that will lead to minor phobias. And the slightest stress can make them very large.

The main symptoms

Phobias always arise for different reasons. And absolutely all individuals manifest such states in different ways. Some pediophobes are convinced that creating a human resemblance from plastic defies normal explanation, and this scares them. This rejection reaction is more like a natural reaction, and therefore does not require special correction.

But if a person is very frightened or even panicked at the sight of dolls or mannequins, and the fear cannot be quickly eliminated, then this should be considered a manifestation of a mental disorder. A person with a phobia exacerbates their emotion with other fears.... He begins to fear that from strong overexcitement his heart may burst, and he will die. Therefore, just one thought about dolls and the sad experience of the consequences of fear causes a panic attack in a pediophobe.

Naturally, when a person is afraid, his body reacts, and then the following symptoms begin to appear:

  • the patient may have problems with bowel movements and urination;
  • he may have tremors of all limbs;
  • the appearance of disorientation and hallucinations is another important sign;
  • there may be a distortion of the perception of reality;
  • possible visual disturbances and even dizziness;
  • with strong fear, hearing may disappear;
  • shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, rapid pulse - all this is another manifestation of a phobia.

As soon as you notice such symptoms in yourself or your loved one, it is necessary to take measures to eliminate the phobia so as not to waste time.

How to get rid of?

People with strong character practically do not suffer from phobias. However, they can also undergo this condition due to severe stress or psycho-emotional overload. Naturally, a strong-minded person will be able to overcome all their fears. However, it must be remembered that it is almost impossible to get rid of obsessive states, and even more so from pediophobia. It can only be suppressed by will.

And if you do this constantly, then this fear is likely to accumulate in the subconscious, and it will return with renewed vigor as soon as an image of a doll appears in front of your eyes. And the annoying object does not have to be very large, like a life size puppet, for example. For those who suppress emotions, it will be enough to look at a small doll, which will trigger serious problems.

Therefore, it is necessary to seek help from those specialists who have proven themselves from the good side. The specialist will start working with you.

  • First of all, you need to admit to yourselfthat there is such a problem - pediophobia. Further, there must come an awareness of the need to fight the disease.
  • Serious obsession - this is a mental illness, and a psychologist here may not be able to cope. Therefore, with severe cases, it is necessary to seek the advice and treatment of a psychiatrist.
  • Hard case implies long-term ignorance of the problem. As a result of such actions, the condition is aggravated, and then drug treatment is required as an additional course to the main course of psychotherapy. Treatment is carried out with antipsychotics, tranquilizers and antidepressants.
  • Only a doctor can prescribe treatment pills, therefore, self-administration is unacceptable.
  • Drug therapy course can last up to 12 months. During this time, the patient will get used to his calm state.

In an easier case, you will need the help of a psychologist. You just need to contact such a specialist, who works with people with phobias.

  • The psychologist conducts testing in the form of a conversation... This is how the problem is identified. The person's openness will help to reveal all the veiled aspects of the onset of the phobia. Therefore, do not be afraid of anything, do not hide, do not hesitate.
  • As a preventive measure a specialist can recommend light homeopathic remedies. They will help improve the condition.

If you decide to get rid of your fears on your own, then turn to practices such as relaxation and meditation... Yoga classes, a visit to the sauna with a relaxing massage, aromatherapy will help you cope with the obsessive state.
