Food floristry: do-it-yourself bouquets
An edible bouquet today is considered an original gift for any occasion, including a man's. Despite the fact that many florists have already mastered a new direction and offer a product to customers, it is possible to make such an original gift with your own hand.
What is food floristry?
Food floristry is the preparation of floristic compositions and bouquets of fruits, berries, vegetables and other edible ingredients. The history of the emergence of this special direction of art sends back to England in the 19th century. It was then that journalist George Sala described in his article a London housekeeper collecting exquisite bouquets of vegetables and fruits. By the beginning of the 20th century, edible compositions spread throughout the world.
For food bouquets, only the freshest products are used, and perishable products are additionally packed in cling film. Alternately, they are strung on bamboo sticks or toothpicks, after which they are decorated with greenery and combined with adhesive tape into a single composition.
The finished work is usually wrapped in gift wrapping so that all unsightly parts are hidden.
A wicker basket, a flower pots or a wooden box can be analogs of a paper roll.
Overview of types of bouquets
According to their composition, it is customary to subdivide all edible bouquets into several groups. The first includes compositions of fresh flowers and ripe fruits, as well as sweets such as French cookies, marshmallows or candies in shiny wrappers.
The second group unites bouquets created only from fruits and berries: both seasonal and exotic.
The advantage of this variety is its versatility: after admiring the aesthetic appearance, the product can be completely eaten.
Compositions from the third group are obtained by combining vegetables, fresh herbs and mushrooms.
Finally, the fourth variety includes all the remaining edible products: from meat products, dried fish, crayfish, dried fruits, cheeses and other non-standard ingredients.
As for the appearance, today one of the most popular types of food compositions remains symmetrical round bouquet, assembled from ingredients of different lengths, going in a spiral. Well known and biedermeier: compositions in this style also have a rounded shape, but the ingredients in them are laid out already in a concentric circle. Asymmetrical bouquets are created in two ways: the three-triangle method and the diagonal method.
How to do it yourself?
It is quite possible to collect delicious gifts for any occasion with your own hands.
From fruit
A simple composition as a gift for a woman or a young girl on Teacher's Day or Mother's Day is made from grapefruit, kiwi, lemon and apples. In addition to the main products, you will need flower capsules and flowers themselves, cling film, scissors, hot glue and scotch tape to work. According to the manufacturing instructions, citrus fruits should not only be thoroughly washed, but also cut, peeled and wrapped in cling film to preserve.
Kiwi also has to be cut and wrapped in plastic, but apples can be left unchanged.
The components are strung on sticks and skewers, after which they are combined into a single composition using adhesive tape.
This should be done by arranging all the components upside down.
In the center is a grapefruit, and around it are smaller items. The gaps are filled with flowers fixed in special capsules and sprigs of ornamental grass.
The finished work is wrapped in craft paper packaging in such a way as to hide all the twigs and sticks looking out from below.
Additionally, you can tie a bow or satin ribbons on the leg.
From vegetables
A vegetable bouquet can only be made from autumn vegetables or just anything that is growing at the moment in the beds. For example, on strong wooden sticks, you first need to plant a couple of onions and cucumbers, bell peppers, carrots, garlic and half corn, and then decorate the resulting bouquet with fresh herbs.
A similar master class will allow you to form a vegetable basket. Medium-sized fruits will first need to be washed and dried, and then cut into small bars and place on skewers. The blanks are tied together with braid, after which they are placed in a small basket. A bouquet of cherry tomatoes and mozzarella is similarly designed.
From fish
You will be able to make an edible gift yourself from such a "male" food as dried or dried fish. In addition to the key ingredient, you will need several bottles of beer, skewers and scotch tape, scissors, clear cellophane, salty snacks, sausages and cheese to create it. The skewers are glued with duct tape around the beer bottles and the ends are joined together. Croutons and other snacks are poured into bags of dense cellophane. The fish tails are wrapped with cling film, after which they are attached with tape on skewers.
Beer bottles should be in the center of the composition, and around them fish, snacks, sausages and cheese are already gathering.
Of crayfish
A bouquet of crayfish will be an excellent gift for men. The main product is boiled in salted water in advance, after which it is folded back in a colander and dried on a towel.
On sticks, the crayfish are fixed with rubber bands, although you can try to pierce the abdomen between the hind legs.
The center of the composition is a bottle of beer, fixed in a foam base with a handle. Skewers with crayfish are attached in a circle around it.
The finished product is decorated with lemon slices and wrapped in kraft paper.
Of sweets
Pretty quickly, you can learn how to collect a bouquet for children from sweets. The technology of its preparation is no different from fruit or berry products: sweets, marshmallows, marshmallows and other sweets are put on sticks and combined into a single composition. For example, a gift for a girl can be created from all the favorite sweets of the hero of the occasion, or only from Raffaello sweets, gummies in the form of flowers or kinder surprises. The combination of soft bears of a calm gray color, beautiful candies in golden wrappers and bright red wrapping paper looks very cute. The boy will surely like a composition made from M & M's, or a set of several types of chocolate bars with a bottle of soda in the center.
From berries
The edible berry bouquet will be the perfect wedding gift. Cherries, strawberries and blueberries are used as a base.
The fruits will be strung on skewers approximately 30 centimeters long.
To prevent the berries from scrolling and hold tight, it is better to adapt a pair of thin wooden sticks for each.
The composition is assembled using a spiral technique. First, skewers with three berries are crossed and fastened with narrow tape, and then the rest of the blanks are attached to them.
For decoration, it is better to use live eustoma flowers, and cover the resulting gaps with ruscus and fern leaves.
It is recommended to process the finished bouquet with pruning shears so that it can stay on the stem.
It will be correct to first wrap the bouquet in a transparent film, and then in the packaging corresponding to the general style.
Strawberry "clearing" can be presented to mom or grandmother, even without a special reason. In addition to fresh fruits, you will have to prepare delicate-colored roses, pruning shears, staplers, skewers, scissors and wrapping paper. It is most convenient to do creative work with rubber gloves. Following the instructions step by step, you should start by alternately stringing berries on wooden sticks.
Next, the composition itself is formed: 3-5 skewers with strawberries are located in the center, and a spiral composition of berries and flowers in special capsules is built slightly obliquely around them.
The finished bouquet is wrapped in a package and tied with a bow.
Seafood
A bouquet of seafood is created in the same way as a bouquet of crayfish or dried fish. The most common ingredient is king prawns. The product is boiled and placed on skewers. It is most convenient to fix the shrimp in a floral sponge, which will then be masked with wrapping paper. The composition can be supplemented with lemon slices, rosemary sprigs, pistachios, chili peppers, or even a bottle of soy sauce.
Meat
Composing a meat bouquet begins with cutting the sausage into pieces. Some of them are twisted with roses and tied with twine. All meat items are put on skewers. Buns or a baguette are ideal for a company with sausages: the first is divided in half, and the second is cut into several large pieces. A bottle of alcohol is usually placed in the center of the composition, and baked goods are located along the edges. The gaps are filled with sausages and cherry tomatoes, and the skewers and twine are masked with fresh herbs and chili peppers.
When preparing a meat bouquet, it is even easier to do: pick up several elongated and narrow varieties of sausages, cut them obliquely and pack them in craft paper.
Tips for Beginners
When creating an edible bouquet, it is important to stick to the correct color combination. You can achieve it in one of four main ways. In the first case, a combination of contrasting shades, located opposite each other, occurs, and in the second, similar colors coexist within the composition. The third way is to use different shades of the same color. Finally, when choosing the fourth, it will be necessary to combine colors from different parts of the color wheel.
The first experience of creating a fruit and berry gift can seem difficult and time consuming. A female edible bouquet of fruits, made by hand, is easier to arrange by acting according to the step-by-step video and photo from the master class, where all the details of the process will be clearly demonstrated to you. Compositions based on the beneficial gifts of nature are a fairly new hobby.

Storage features
Bouquets of nuts and dried fruits can be stored unchanged for as long as possible: the first are stored for a month, the second - for 2 weeks. It is recommended to eat berry bouquets within 12 hours, and fruit bouquets - for 24 hours. However, by timely disassembling the composition, it will be possible to extend the shelf life of its ingredients. So, having received a product made of fruits and berries as a gift, it should be carefully examined. Cut and overripe fruits are eaten within 24 hours, or they are stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
Beforehand, they must be removed from the skewers and washed under warm running water. Ripe and overripe fruits and berries are also harvested in the cold and circulated around.
It is important to keep them away from vegetables.
It is recommended to immediately remove all components of men's bouquets from the skewers and put them in a space where the temperature is maintained from 0 to +6 ° C. The shelf life of products under these conditions is four days.
It will be enough to remove marshmallows and marshmallows from sweet bouquets from wooden sticks and put them in a plastic bag. With dried fruits, you should do the same, but you will need to rinse them before using them.
