How can you dilute gel polish?
Manicure using gel polish owes its popularity to the fact that it is able to stay on nails for about two weeks. This feature is provided by a composition with polymers, which, when exposed to ultraviolet rays, form a solid film. Despite all the convenience of such a manicure, there is also a minus - the thickening of the composition. Most often, the gel polish that is used most often becomes too thick. This is due to the proximity to the UV lamp, frequent contact with oxygen and sunlight, which provoke the polymerization process. And also gel polish is also called shellac.
The ways
It is advisable to dilute thick gel polish no more than once, as this reduces the quality of the coating. When applied, it can roll, and then crack, and the color can acquire a dull shade. You can dilute gel polish with various means.
- Alcohol. It is important to note that this method can lead to dry skin and nails, and the applied coating loses its strength.
- Top coat or colorless varnish. In this case, the quality will not suffer much, but the color will become less saturated. If shellac is just bought and thick and there is no desire to add various products to it, then you can use a little trick. Pour the required number of drops of gel polish onto a piece of foil and add a few drops of top coat to them, then mix to the desired consistency. The advantage of this method is that the result is immediately visible.
- Remover for gel polishes. It is similar in effect to the shellac resuscitation agent, like alcohol, but disposable. The gel diluted in this way lays down unevenly on the nail, and after a few days it is generally unsuitable for further use.
- Special dilution products. This is ideal as thinner manufacturers have taken care to ensure that the shellac does not lose its properties and texture. Of the inexpensive brands, Irisk, El Corazon can be distinguished, and from the more expensive segment, the most popular are Rio Profi, Masura, Severina.
You can use a very simple method to make your gel polish thinner at home without using any tools. It is necessary to pour hot water into any container and put a bottle of gel polish there. Water should be poured so that it covers up to the middle of the bottle. Thus, it is sufficient to hold the bottle for about 2 minutes. If the shellac is still thick, then the procedure should be repeated.
Important! In no case can ordinary acetone be used for dilution - this tool is suitable only for classic varnishes, and gel polish will simply ruin.
How to store it correctly?
Although gel polish is more durable and durable than regular nail polish, it is also prone to hardening. While it is possible to dilute thick shellac, it is best to prevent it from drying out in time by proper handling and storage. To extend the life of shellac, you must adhere to the following rules for storing it:
- close the lid tightly - with prolonged contact with oxygen, the structure of the shellac changes, as a result of which its strength weakens;
- before applying, do not shake the jar, but gently "roll" it in your palms, due to the "shaking" bubbles are formed, which then do not allow you to achieve an even coating; if bubbles nevertheless form, it is necessary to open the bottle and leave it in this form until they disappear;
- do not leave shellac residues on the neck of the bottle, but remove them with a lint-free cloth;
- store in a dark place with a low temperature - the maximum temperature is +26 degrees. Despite numerous recommendations, it is still not worth storing varnish in the refrigerator, since sudden changes in temperature have a bad effect on it;
- do not place close to a UV lamp, microwave oven or gas stove; the heat they give off is detrimental to shellac.
You should pay attention to the expiration date. Often the manufacturer indicates two dates: the first means the shelf life before opening the jar, and the second after opening. It is not recommended to purchase gel polishes that have already been opened. Thus, if you allocate a suitable place for storing gel polishes, do not forget to put them in place in time, then they will last a long time. To thin the thickened varnish, the best solution is to use a special liquid.
