Why is gel polish on my nails covered with bubbles and how to avoid it?
It will be difficult to find a person who does not know about a persistent manicure that can stay on nails for more than a month. The secret lies in the use of gel polishes. One of the main features of such materials is drying in a special lamp, which is capable of generating special radiation. Gel polish from such an effect becomes durable and resistant to external influences.
But sometimes he can behave differently. Even experts are familiar with situations when gel polish bubbles on the nails. This situation is unpleasant. The manicure is spoiled, it needs to be redone, which significantly increases the duration of the procedure. So that such a situation does not arise with you, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with the reasons why it occurs.
Why bubbles form
To ensure that your manicure is never spoiled by swollen bubbles, it is necessary to study the reasons for this situation. There may be several of them:
- low-quality materials, the constituent components of which react with air;
- a thick layer of varnish that cannot dry out in one go: the upper layer hardens, and the lower one remains liquid and appears in the form of bubbles;
- poor degreasing of the plate;
- moisture from the nails evaporates and raises the varnish, forming bubbles on the surface;
- polishing must be carried out without fail and thoroughly;
- expired varnish cannot be used, its composition exfoliates and the solvent usually forms the top layer, shaking the bottle will not save the situation;
- an overdried or disheveled brush is completely unsuitable for work;
- gel polish should not be shaken before use.
Violations of application technology
- Gel polish swells when drying, often due to the shaking of the bubble. If it is possible and even necessary to handle ordinary varnishes, then gel polish reacts sharply to such actions. In the shaking process, the liquid is mixed with air, which during drying appears as a bubble surface. To remedy the situation, you need to heat the bottle in your hands. This will allow the material to acquire the desired uniformity and return it to its previous properties.
- In the process of creating a design, nails must be thoroughly degreased and covered with a high-quality base. Remains of any material on the plate, such as cream, will swell after the base dries.
- A large number of layers is a mistake most often made by self-taught beginner home masters. Optimum color saturation is usually achieved after a second coat. In very rare cases, a third coat is required. Gel polish, which turns into a multi-layer structure, looks rough, wears poorly and often lags behind the nail during the first week after the procedure. Two layers is the maximum you can afford.
- Water and gel polish are incompatible concepts that should not even be near. With a high degree of probability, we can talk about a spoiled manicure that was applied to wet nails. Even one drop is enough for the result on the nails after drying to become a disappointment. Be sure to use a primer in the work, and all bubbles with materials must be tightly closed.
- The nail is able to absorb moisture, which even a primer cannot quickly get rid of. If gel is applied to such nails, then over time the water will stand out from the plate and raise the decorative coating. Therefore, you cannot do a manicure after water procedures.
- It is recommended to choose materials from one manufacturer. This will eliminate the incompatibility of materials that occurs due to the difference in composition.
- A good gel polish cannot be cheap. There is no need to be tempted by a low cost, no matter how attractive it may be. The swollen surface after drying of such material is the most innocuous problem that very affordable gels can bring. They may contain harmful and even prohibited components.
Drying technology violations
All materials used for gel polish-based manicure must be dried in special lamps. Moreover, you need to follow the rules and technologies. Due to some errors, bubbles appear on the surface of the nail. The list of errors is given below.
- Do not replace the lamp with another heat source. There are cases of using a hair dryer, for example. It is also strictly forbidden to place your nails under cold water, to wave your hands. Nothing that has been done with regular varnish can be applied to gels. These materials are not designed for such treatment, they have a completely different composition and structure, which is disturbed by improper actions.
- Incorrect lamp operation can also cause unpleasant bumps on the nails. You can try to change the source of radiation. If the result is flawless, then the reason is definitely hidden in the lamp.
- Only the upper layers of the material harden in the lamp. The varnish continues to dry for an hour. Therefore, immediately after finishing work, you must not drink hot drinks, contact with water, chemicals and heat sources. You need to wait this time so that the coating is as durable as possible.
- Fast drying is not applicable to all materials. It is necessary to study the instructions for the use of each material involved in the work.
A fastener must be used without fail. It makes the coating more durable, protects it from contact with external factors and increases the durability of the manicure.
Storage technology violations
All materials must be stored in accordance with special rules. If the storage conditions differ from the norms, then the effect of bubbles will certainly appear.
- The necks of the vials must be kept clean. After completing the manicure, you need to wipe the neck from the remains of the varnish.
- The sun's rays and heat are the main enemies of gel polishes. Ultraviolet radiation, the source of which is the sun, quickly degrades the quality of the varnish, and it dries up from the hot microclimate. You should not expect anything good from such materials.
- The vials are always kept well closed so that the material does not come into contact with air.
- Vials must be in a strictly upright position. There should be no slopes, let alone a horizontal position.
- Gel polishes do not tolerate proximity to water, even a humid environment will be destructive for them. You should not choose a place for storage near a water source or with a high level of humidity.
We remove the problem without removing the cover
There is not always a margin of time that will allow you to redo a damaged manicure. In these cases, you can do with "little blood": remove or hide the resulting bubbles.
There are a number of tricks that salon masters use.
Stickers are a convenient way to create a unique design, which also allows you to hide places with manifested defects. Only small problems can be hidden this way. Better to use 3D format applications
Embossing is difficult but effective. In this case, the design will look impressive and expensive. No one will guess that there is a problem that has been cleverly disguised.
- There are special materials that are designed for just such cases. With their help, you can eliminate swelling, and not just mask it, as in previous cases. Such products dissolve the top layer and level the previous ones. These materials include Pro Fix and Smudge Corrector - these materials are the most successful and effective.
The problem can be masked or removed by any of the methods described above, but you should not rely on the durability of the manicure. The layers are poorly bonded to each other, therefore, the coating is not complete.
