Beautiful and well-groomed pens always attract the attention of the opposite sex, so many girls use a decorative coating based on gel polish for manicure. It allows you to give even the most ordinary-looking marigolds an aesthetic appearance.

Despite the long service life of the gel coating, sooner or later the moment will come when it will need to be cut down in order to apply a new design.

When the time comes for correcting gel polish, and it is necessary to remove the old decorative coating from the nail plate, many novice nail masters wonder which file is better to use for these purposes.

Peculiarities

The file is a common manicure tool. It is used to grind and polish the nail plate.

Many nail masters use a buff for these purposes - this product has a rectangular shape, each of the faces of which is characterized by a different degree of grain.

Buff differs from a file in the degree of abrasiveness.

The degree of abrasiveness of tools for cutting a gel coating is calculated in grits, the marking of which must be present on a similar product for a manicure. A small number of grit indicates that this is a rough file. A large number, on the contrary, suggests that the tool is characterized by softness and is used for accurate work and at the final stages of manicure.

Depending on the number of grit, the purpose of the file may be different:

  • 100-180 grit - used for the most coarse processing in the process of cutting down extended marigolds;
  • 180-250 grit - used to reshape natural nails;
  • 240-400 grit - with the help of it the nail plate is polished;
  • 400-900 - designed to prepare nails for polishing;
  • 900-1200 - used for finishing polishing and giving the surface a mirror-like shine.

Nail masters recommend cutting down the gel polish using a special file or buff, the abrasiveness of which varies between 180-240 grit.

Such a tool will destroy the integral top layer of the decorative coating, preparing it for further application of the gel polish remover.

Buff is quite popular due to its versatility, since you can use different sides of such a tool in your work, depending on your current needs.

Varieties

Depending on the material used from which such a tool was made, there are several options for files.

  1. Paper. Experienced craftsmen do not advise purchasing a similar type of tool for cutting decorative coatings, since it belongs to disposable products and cannot be disinfected.
  2. Metallic. These varieties are characterized by strength and durability. In addition, they have a low cost.
  3. Wooden. They have a delicate structure and natural origin. They are made from fruit and coniferous wood, which are distinguished by their high density. In the process of use, they have a therapeutic effect on the marigold. It is best to purchase such a product for personal use, since it cannot be disinfected.
  4. Plastic options. They are characterized by low cost and versatility. They have a long service life and perfectly tolerate the effects of a disinfectant.
  5. Glass and ceramic. They belong to a fragile instrument, therefore, they require careful treatment. This option can be easily disinfected.

Depending on the material used as a dusting for the files, there are tool options that allow you to cut the gel coating.

  • Metallic abrasive. It must be used with extreme caution, since it belongs to the rough version and can damage the nail plate during the cutting of the decorative coating.
  • Ceramic or glass spraying. It is characterized by a gentle effect without negatively affecting the condition of the marigold when it is necessary to cut off the gel polish.
  • Diamond spraying. Allows you to perfectly cope with the old coating, removing the top layer, and does not injure the nail plate. It appeared on the market not so long ago, but has already become popular among experienced nail artists.

How to delete?

The process for removing the gel coat is as described below.

  • First of all, you need to walk over the old decorative coating with a file-grinder. This will remove the glossy surface and improve the effect of the special gel polish remover.
  • Using soapy water (it should be a little warm, and its temperature should be close to room temperature), you need to process your fingers, after which they are wiped off with a napkin. The skin next to the nail should be lubricated with a thick layer of cream. These simple actions will help protect the delicate dermis of the hands from the harsh chemicals that are included in the gel polish remover.
  • It is necessary to place a cotton pad or a part of it on the nail plate, which should be adjusted to the size of the nail, with a gel coating remover applied. Then the finger is wrapped in a pre-prepared piece of food foil (its size corresponds to a candy wrapper), you can also put on special clips.
  • Depending on the composition of the gel polish remover, the waiting time for it to take effect varies from 10 to 20 minutes. To speed up this process, you can massage the marigolds a little.Many practitioners recommend not waiting that long to minimize the negative effects of chemicals on the marigold.
  • After the specified time has elapsed, the cotton pad is removed. It is necessary to remove particles of the softened coating using an orange stick. If it is not possible to wait for the specified time, then you must use a nail file to carefully cut off the remaining coating. You need to be extremely careful not to damage the nail plate.
  • When the cutting of the decorative coating is completed, you can start polishing the nail plate. For these purposes, a soft file or buff is used.
  • As the final stage, it is necessary to give the marigold a certain shape. To do this, you should take a regular file of medium abrasiveness. When the process of filing the marigolds is completed, you can go directly to the manicure itself, using the hardware, classic edged or combined option.

The process of cutting off gel polish with a cutter. Experienced craftsmen believe that a cutter is needed to properly cut a manicure. The process of sawing off the decorative coating is described below.

The gel coat must be dry, because this allows you to file the nails evenly, while reducing the risk of the tip slipping off.

You need to decide on the material of the cutter - it can be made of metal or ceramic. Depending on the selected material, the speed of rotation of the cutter will change. For a ceramic nozzle, a speed of 10-15 thousand revolutions is set. The metal nozzle performs cutting at a speed of more than 20 thousand rpm.

The old covering begins to be sawed off, moving from the middle part of the marigold. Movements should be smooth, downward. When processing the upper section of the nail, you need to move along its contour, making movements with the nozzle from top to bottom.

It is necessary to ensure that the movements are long - you do not need to do short sawing, pressing the nail with force. In this case, the movements must be uniform, otherwise the nail plate can be damaged.

In work, you need to use the middle part of the cutter, observing a slight slope. Do not use the tip of the nozzle for cutting.

The lower section of the marigold also needs to be processed with the middle part of the cutter.

You only need a cutter to remove decorative coverings. To cut the base, you should use a buff that will make the nail plate even, removing all irregularities and imperfections.

Following a simple algorithm, you can correct the manicure quickly and efficiently. And the handles will look well-groomed again.
