You can not only buy a convenient guitar stand in a store, but also build it yourself. There is nothing difficult in this, and the time costs will be very small.

Tools and materials

Before you start making a good stand for a musical instrument with your own hands, you will need to prepare all the necessary materials and tools. The list of required materials for assembling the stand will consist of the following items:

  • boards having a size of 600x350 mm and a thickness of 18 mm;
  • screws and nails;
  • felt or foam rubber;
  • special furniture hinge;
  • two-component epoxy resin;
  • special adhesive for wood (it is recommended to use the contact aerosol version);
  • special impregnation for wood;
  • varnish for processing wooden bases;
  • leather cord.

It is very important to prepare the right tools. To assemble a guitar stand on your own, you will need to find the following accessories:

  • band saw or electric jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • planer or surface gauge;
  • gas-burner;
  • brush or sponge.

All of these components are recommended to be laid out in one place, where you plan to make the stand. It is better to place the entire toolkit at hand so that at the right time you can easily find the item you need, without spending too much time looking for it.

It is advisable to prepare only high quality materials. They must not be damaged or defective.If the boards are rotten or moldy, then you will definitely not be able to make a high-quality rack out of them.

Not only materials, but also tools should be of high quality. The latter must be serviceable, in working order. If the required fixtures don't work as expected, making the rack can become noticeably difficult.

Floor stand manufacturing scheme

The easiest way is to independently make a floor stand for a musical instrument. This design can be done pretty quickly. Let's consider step by step how to properly tinker with a rack of the specified type.

Marking and cutting

First, you will need to prepare all the necessary drawings for the future homemade product. It is necessary to take measurements from the musical instrument. The body and neck will have different dimensions. Having decided on all the values, it will be necessary to make their sketches and a drawing of the future rack. After this, the diagrams of the side parts of the structure will need to be cut out of a sheet of paper.

Having made the markup according to the scheme, the necessary parts will need to be cut out from the boards. Sawing a pair of lower side supports should be done with an electric jigsaw. It is necessary to act as carefully and slowly as possible, since the edge part of circular products can crumble strongly at the moment of turning the file.

You should also at this stage prepare the base of a homemade stand from plywood.

Preparation of parts

When all the necessary parts have been cut out, they need to be properly prepared. You can resort to additional processing of workpieces using a milling machine. Thus, it will turn out all the elements to fit optimally to each other.

When milling parts, it is very important to take into account the direction of the fibers, so as not to accidentally remove excess. The sawn and prepared components will definitely need to be thoroughly cleaned with sandpaper.

Registration

The most popular and beautiful solution is carving. It can be implemented manually using a chisel, or you can use an engraver. Decorating the future structure will make its appearance much more attractive and aesthetic.

You can resort to an interesting and stylish design that matches the interior where the holder will subsequently be located. The cut contour must be carefully filled with epoxy solution. Do not neglect the process of additional heating, because thanks to it, it will be possible to remove all remaining bubbles from the mixture. Planing will allow you to clean the surfaces well, forming a beautiful and contrasting pattern.

Assembly

When all the parts are prepared and beautifully designed, you can start assembling them into a single stable structure. Let's see how this should be done:

  • both halves of the future structure should be connected by means of a loop at their upper ends;
  • just below you will need to fix the leather cord - this will need to be done in order to control the width of the homemade product;
  • a leather lace must be threaded into pre-drilled holes, which must be located strictly symmetrically;
  • then the cord must be tied with strong knots.

Impregnation

The process of assembling the holder will not be difficult to implement yourself. However, after the completion of all stages of work, the master will definitely need to correctly process the finished structure. This is a very important stage, on which the service life of the rack will depend, as well as the preservation of its attractive appearance.

Finishing impregnation is most conveniently done using a regular sponge. After it, the areas of contact with the body part will need to be carefully processed with felt or foam pads.

Also, the finished structure will need to be thoroughly smeared with stain, high-quality varnish. After that, the homemade product will need to be left to dry completely.

Homemade wall mount

When there is absolutely no free space in the room, floor stands are not the most successful solutions. In the conditions of a noticeably limited area, such a structure will simply have nowhere to put. A wall mount holder is a great way out of this situation. You can also buy a ready-made bracket in a store, or you can make a wall holder yourself.

Such a stand for a musical instrument can be made as follows.

  • It is necessary to take a bar from MDF or a 20 mm bar. The parameter of the length of the bar should be 26 cm, and the width - 8 cm.
  • Veneer can be glued to the block. It is not necessary to do this, but for beauty, you can turn to this procedure. It makes sense to treat the bar with varnish or stain.
  • Technical holes should be made at the edges of the plank, keeping a distance of 4 cm. A hole is also made in the center for fastening the slingshot.
  • On the back side of the bar, you will need to make a small depression, which will be needed for high-quality fastening of the nut.
  • A slingshot for a wall structure can be made from dozens of fittings. Its edges should be folded up.
  • The base of the slingshot must be welded to the bolt, which will subsequently be responsible for fixing this part to the base of the bar.
  • When the slingshot is correctly attached to the base, you will need to install a specific place for fastening directly to the wall.
  • Holes should be made in the wall base, dowels must be installed in them. After that, the holder can be safely attached.
  • At the last stage, you need to fix an acoustic or electric guitar on the mount.

Possible problems

Often, when making a guitar stand on their own, craftsmen encounter certain difficulties. You always have to cope with them in order to ultimately make a really high-quality and comfortable base for a string instrument.

Let's take a closer look at what common problems associated with the manufacture of a guitar stand are discussed most often.

  • When working with wood, the master must take into account the peculiarities of its natural structure. The most important parameter is the direction of the wood grain. Demanding natural material can be seriously damaged due to the carelessness of the master. Use the utmost care when using a planer, electric saw or jigsaw.
  • In the process of directly assembling the structure, the screws do not always hold tightly. It is recommended to use hardened elements. When assembling a high-quality hardwood stand, it is advisable to pre-drill the necessary holes for the specified fasteners, so that later you do not encounter unnecessary inconveniences.
  • When assembling a guitar stand yourself, you need to remember about its functional load. If the structure turns out to be excessively massive and heavy, then it will not be so convenient to use it. This is because floor holders are often used during live performances. For such conditions, it makes no sense to tinker with an overly heavy stance.

The best and optimal weight of such structures reaches 5 kg.
