Features of 7/8 guitars

This article describes the main features of 7/8 guitars. It is indicated what it is and for what age it is suitable. The size of classical guitars in centimeters and some subtleties of choosing such instruments are described.

To understand what this fractional number means, you must immediately indicate - this is how all instruments are classified, through the ratio of length to width. And by such numbers, any more or less experienced person will easily understand what is in front of him, and whether it is necessary to buy a particular copy. So, it is generally accepted that four quarters (this is how it is written - 4/4) means suitability for adults. It is a full format standard tool. 7/8 guitars are smaller in size and are recommended for ages 13 to 17. This size is suitable not only for teenagers, but also for adults with small hands. The option is good for travel, as:

• smaller than a regular guitar in size;

• more convenient for transportation.

In centimeters, the length of a standard 7/8 guitar is 94. Its width at its widest point is 34.6 cm. The distance from the end of the strings to the handle is 62 cm. Such guitars are readily taken by adults with short arms and long-distance travel enthusiasts.

It is worth making a reservation right away - there is not much sense in separating the manufacturers of classical and acoustic guitars or separate models of this kind. If a company makes this or that product well, then all the others will turn out just as well. There is a clear division by price range between the firms. Anyone who is just starting to master the guitar, it is better to focus on classical instruments. Their wide, sophisticated necks allow you to practice fingerings. Nylon strings are easy to pinch. They do not provoke pain in the arm and the appearance of calluses, as long as you train slowly and carefully - as you should, however, always do. True, it will not be possible to install replacement steel strings in the future - the body is not strong enough.

The acoustic guitar uses stiff springs, and the neck is supplemented with a truss. As a result, it is possible to achieve a more perfect sound, especially in the dreadnought segment. Thanks to the steel strings, pickups can be used, and sometimes they are even present in the basic configuration.

The acoustic guitar is versatile. It can be used in any style and genre. The only exceptions are classical guitar music and flamenco melodies. Much also depends on the material used. So, rosewood guarantees depth and viscosity of sound, and cedar makes it softer; walnut allows you to achieve increased sonority.
