Evpatoria is a famous resort town located in the western part of Crimea, 65 kilometers from Simferopol. The end of the Ottoman rule was put by the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, after the conclusion of a peace treaty after which in 1774 the Ottoman Empire abandoned Crimea. In 1784, by decree of Catherine II, the city of Gezlev received a new name - Evpatoria. This name was given in honor of the Pontic king Mithridates VI Eupator, who assisted the Greek Kerkinitida in the war with the Scythians, sending his troops for reinforcements.

At the end of the 19th century, a resort direction began to develop in Evpatoria, and during the Soviet Union, the city received the status of the best children's health resort. Monument to Evpatoria landing is the most famous and visited place of the "Evpatoria - Saki" zone. Installed in 1970 (architects - Yeniosov and Kuliev, sculptor - Bratsun). Located on the 6th kilometer of the Simferopol highway. It represents the figures of three sailors with grenades in their hands, going to the attack of their last battle. The total height of the monument is 9 meters.

The sculpture commemorates the feat of the heroes of the Soviet amphibious assault. The military operation took place in Yevpatoria on January 5, 1942. Fulfilling their military duty, the landing was able to divert part of the enemy forces from the besieged Sevastopol, which, in turn, contributed to the victory of the Soviet troops on the Kerch Peninsula. But due to worsening weather conditions, the successfully started operation ended in almost complete defeat.

Of the 700 paratroopers, less than 100 people survived. For the bravery of the sailors and black raincoat-tents, the Nazis nicknamed them "black death" and did not even take them prisoner. The song by Vladimir Vysotsky "Black jackets" is dedicated to the Evpatoria landing.
