The best sights of Gaspra in Crimea
Crimea is diverse in its splendor, in every Tutu village you can find something interesting for yourself. The small settlement Gaspra is very popular with vacationers, since it is located not far from Yalta.
Description of the village
Gaspra is a resort town, urban-type settlement in the Yalta municipality of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, territory. It is located on the Black Sea coast, west of Yalta. The population is about 10 310 people. The village is notable for the fact that Leo Tolstoy lived here in 1901 and 1902. Attractions such as the Roman castrum of Charax and the romantic Swallow's Nest Castle are in the immediate vicinity.
Gaspra borders with Koreiz, another village, and it includes Marat and Stroygorodok - small settlements. What is remarkable about this place is that here you can relax in a sanatorium, boarding house or health resort. There are enough parks, beaches, attractive hiking trails and much more for vacationers.
The infrastructure is well developed. It is here that the warmest climate is, if we talk about the territory of Crimea. Juniper-oak forests grow around, and Ai-Petri, an impressive mountain range, protects from the cold winds of local residents and tourists. Lovers of history and ancient architecture will like it in the village, as there are attractive heritage sites throughout the territory. There is the Taurus necropolis, the Kharax fortress and other monuments.
The village appeared, according to some sources, only in the 18th century and since then began to actively develop as the main resort with healing air.The sub-Mediterranean climate is dry and hot, with warm winters. In January, the air temperature remains + 4, and at the height of summer, the mark on the thermometer rises to + 25 C. Tourists come here from the end of May and leave only at the end of October.
All this time you can enjoy not only the sun, but also the warm sea.
Translated from Greek "gaspra" means "white". For the first time, the traveler and naturalist P.S.Pallas mentioned this place in his notes. From the chronicles it became known that in 1865 only 201 people lived on the territory of the modern settlement, and a mosque was built. All these people were distributed into 37 courtyards.Today, here you can look at the preserved palaces and luxurious villas, which have become architectural monuments.
Everyone who comes here must visit Golitsin's mansion called "Romantic Alexandria". The object can rightfully be considered a real architectural monument of that time with its towers and unusual windows. Another object is noteworthy here - "Yasnaya Polyana", where the writer Tolstoy lived and was recovering from a serious illness. Lev Nikolayevich always spoke well of this place and argued that such a resort deserves to be visited even by people of high society.
If we talk about modern heritage, today "Yasnaya Polyana" has become a place where mothers and children happily rest. There were equipped rooms for the rehabilitation of children with upper respiratory tract problems, but not tuberculosis patients. In the past few decades, this place has changed, not only new, modern buildings with high-quality equipment have appeared, but also a cable car leading directly to the beach. The living room, in which Tolstoy once lived, today is a small museum with the writer's notes on this place on display.
There are many other sanatoriums here, you can undergo a course of grape treatment, radon and carbon dioxide baths are received practically all year round. It is surprisingly simple and easy to breathe here, so even air is considered incredibly healthy. Two weeks a year is enough to get your lungs in order. There are no hotels in a large number in the village, more often these are private houses, where friendly owners offer well-decorated, comfortable apartments.
Interesting places
There are sights both on the territory of the settlement and in its surroundings. If you come here for rest and treatment, then you should definitely visit several main places.
Charax Palace
The palace was built "in the Scottish style". The small estate of Kharakov was inherited by Prince Georgy Mikhailovich. It was located on Cape Ai-Todor, rocks distinguished by their special splendor. Previously, there was a Roman fortress Kharax (I-III centuries), today it is only the ruins that are nearby. Harara Park today attracts no less attention from tourists.
The construction of the described object was carried out in parallel with the construction of a pool with drinking water and the organization of a local park. The object fits perfectly into the surrounding Crimean landscape. The outlines of sharp red tiled roofs, graceful shapes and correct proportions, which the structure possesses, are perfectly combined with the towering battlements of Ai-Petri.
Previously, it was one of the fortified settlements of the Roman troops that appeared in Taurus in 63-66. The fortress controlled shipping off the coast of Crimea, where a sea route was laid from the Bosphorus and Chersonesos in Sinop to Trabzon. In 244, after the attack, the Roman troops were evacuated from Charax, and the fortress was destroyed. Archaeological research began in the 19th century on the initiative of the Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich Romanov, who owned the Ai-Todor estate.
Now the object is open for visits by organized groups of tourists.
Countess Panina's palace
The estate of Countess Panina is not as famous as an architectural monument like some others.This is because the facility is located in the heart of the city, therefore far from the sea. It is necessary to come here on purpose to enjoy the Gothic architecture. The age of the building is 180 years old, it should be said that the palace appeared here much earlier than even Yalta received the status of a city.
Like some other monuments, this palace was erected by Golitsyn. The construction was approached very responsibly, since many objects were rejected at the first stage of consideration. As a result, Montferrand, the man who built St. Isaac's Cathedral, was involved in the construction. In 1836, the building was finished, an attractive park was organized around.
Nicholas I and the poet Zhukovsky once visited this place.
Chair Park
Translated from the Crimean Tatar name of the park means "mountain meadow". This is not surprising, since since ancient times, local settlers have been looking for fertile land for growing agricultural crops. To ennoble the land, it was necessary to cut down the juniper groves, and this is how local meadows appeared. They actively cultivated not only vegetables, but also grain and fruit trees.
This is how the park, which is popular in our time, was formed.
In 1902, the construction of the Villa Chair began here, where the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich lived. An attractive park was created around it, where one would like to spend a pleasant time in the shade of trees. It had to correspond to the high status of the people living here, so it was decided to invite the architect Novichkov, who was able to radically change the local landscape. Old and diseased trees were removed, new ones were planted in an even strip. Appeared:
- bushes of exotic plants;
- trees with fruits;
- especially many rose bushes were planted.
What to see in the vicinity?
A must see in the vicinity of the estate "Bird home", located right on the edge of a rocky cliff above the ocean. This place is one of the most popular attractions in the region and the most recognizable symbols of Crimea. Built in 1912 by a wealthy German, the castle boasts rich neo-Gothic architecture. You should definitely visit the estate and look at the railings from a 40-meter cliff that descends directly into the Black Sea.
Tourists love to wander around this area. An amazing panoramic view opens up from here. The most beautiful photographs are taken from here. It should be borne in mind that the road from the parking lot to the building is quite long, so you should definitely wear comfortable shoes. All tourists are advised to add this object to the excursion program, as the impressions from it are unforgettable.
