The guides associate the name of the village with the name of the goddess of ancient Greece - Nika. There is another version of the origin of the name. “Skete” in translation from Greek is a Christian settlement. After the conquest of the Crimean Peninsula, the Turks mentioned in their letters the name of the village of Nikita with a population of forty families.

During the annexation of Crimea to Russia, the Christian part of the population moved to other regions, and at the same time, Muslim Tatars settled in the village. The number of residents has grown to several hundred people. Before the October Revolution, a school functioned in the village, a mosque was built, and a shopping arcade and a tavern were located in the center of the settlement. As a result Nikita has become a multinational settlement in which different peoples get along together.

The main attraction of Nikita is the botanical garden known throughout the country, one of the oldest. It was founded in 1812 on the personal order of Emperor Alexander I. It is the pride and pearl of Nikita.

In Soviet times, even the village was called Botanichesky.

Many vacationers come and stay here for this. The plants of the magic garden attract tourists from neighboring cities and hotels at any time of the year.The entrance is paid, but once there, you will not regret it. Here are collected plants from all over the world. The outlandish flora amazes with its beauty and variety. Flower beds and greenhouses are impressive in their aromas. To get to know the inhabitants of the botanical garden better, it is not enough to visit there once. True connoisseurs of nature study the life of the garden's vegetation for at least a week.

Every autumn, a chrysanthemum ball is held in the botanical garden - a thematic exhibition dedicated to the variety of bred varieties of these flowers. The total number of crops cultivated in the garden exceeds 11 thousand. In addition, medicinal plants are grown here. A part of the botanical garden is the natural complex "Cape Martyan".

Interesting historical buildings include Church of the Transfiguration. It was built at the insistence of the director of the botanical garden and opened in 1887. While vacationing in the Crimea, Russian monarchs with their families considered it necessary to visit this temple.

The fragrant nature of the surrounding area will amaze you with its beauty. Attracts tourists with its mystery Nikitskaya cleft (or Nikitskaya cleft). In another way, this place is called Ayan rocks. But for the bulk of vacationers, excursion trail. It winds along a steep slope, drowning in a cedar grove. Moving upward, you will suddenly find yourself on a flat area, the length of which is more than two hundred meters. On all sides it is surrounded by rocks, up to fifty meters high.

The width between the rocks is no more than thirty meters. Before you is the famous Nikitskaya cleft. The rocks are entwined with green vines. The greens are very juicy and rich. This is facilitated by its own microclimate, an abundance of moisture, and the hot southern sun almost does not get here. Juniper, oak, dogwood shrub, strawberry, wild pear and many other plants coexist very well nearby.

In the western part of the rocks, archaeologists have found fragments of ancient dishes. Perhaps there were once human settlements. The northern cliff is covered with grottoes and cracks. If you are observant, you will notice that all the rocks have a different color.

Those who travel by personal transport can get to the center of Yalta, and from there there is a road leading to the village. If you come by train or bus, you can order a taxi or use public transport from the city station.
