The urban district of Sudak, in the Crimea, includes many settlements, among which there is the village of Veseloe. The village is comfortably located in the valley of the Kutlak River and until 1945 it was called that way. The settlement became famous thanks to the Massandra winery.

Description

The village of Veseloe is a historical area, the first settlements on this territory appeared in the 1st century. BC NS. and belonged to the Kutlak fortress. In ancient Roman historical documents there is a mention of the fortress, in particular, Flavius ​​Arrian about the Bosporus kingdom.

Historically, the village, along with the whole Crimea, belonged to the Ottoman Empire, but was not Muslim. The main religion for local residents was Christianity. The inhabitants accepted Islam later, and by 1800 Tatars mainly lived in Kutlak.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the number of the rural population increased to 1500 people, and even a mosque appeared.

For a long time, its own Tatar school worked here, but later the local population was deported. The population from Stavropol and Krasnodar Territory moved to Kutlak, the village continued to exist. The official name of the village Veseloe received in 1945, administratively it is included in the Sudak region.

The administrative center is located 10 km from the village, a little closer to the villages of Mezhdurechye and Morskoye, not far from the village of Novy Svet. To the north of the village there is a federal highway to Alushta and Feodosia. They specially stop at Vesely to purchase famous vintage dessert wines.

Since the village is not located on the seashore, the resort infrastructure is not very developed here. There are only a few hotels in the village, and it is most convenient to choose a place to stay in the private sector.

The ruler Asander is considered the founder of the fortress, therefore in some sources it is called the Asandra fortress. The building functioned as a defense, but since it turned out to be abandoned, it gradually collapsed.

The Asandra Bastion is a pentagon with four observation towers. The walls are built of local slate, sandstone and clay. The walls are 200 meters long and 4 to 6 meters high. The passage inside was possible through the towers, where narrow gates were arranged. Inside the fortress there were barracks, residential buildings and a workshop; once there was a well filled with clean water.

Rest with tents is possible on the eastern side of Veselovskaya Bay, that's why those who want to have an inexpensive vacation in a popular place come here. The rest of the bay is occupied by decent boarding houses and hotels, near which there is a convenient sandy beach, and the coast of the eastern part is covered with pebbles.

The local campsite is empty most of the time, but fills up with tourists in July-August. The closedness of Veselovskaya Bay attracts nudists. For lovers of complete relaxation during their holiday, there are appropriate beaches. Scuba diving can be enjoyed in the clean, local coastal waters, with the help of an instructor for scuba diving.

Reviews of diving in this area are positive, and the landscapes off the coast are incredibly picturesque. Veselovskaya Bay is teeming with the inhabitants of the underwater world, and to see them, it is enough to dive to a depth of about 30 meters. At the bottom there are many historical artifacts, for example, there is a torpedo bomber that sank during the Second World War. There are special centers for beginner divers, one of them is located in the city of Sudak.

How to get there?

You can get to the village of Veseloe intercity bus routes or personal transport... Bus travel can be made from different cities of Crimea, as well as from the airport of Simferopol.

Routes run along the P-29 highway regular buses from Alushta, Yalta, Feodosia, Kerch, Sevastopol to Sudak. It is through this town that it is most convenient to get to Veseloye. In Sudak, you need to get to the local bus station and find a suburban route to Veseloye.
