The first peignoirs appeared in Venice almost 500 years ago. The then women of fashion wore it, barely waking up, in order to comfortably apply makeup. Since then, from a heavy dressing gown, a peignoir has turned into an elegant and openwork element of the morning and evening look of a modern lady.

The upper part, worn over the dressing gown itself, is usually sewn from the most transparent material, while the lower one can be a shortened version of the kimono dressing gown or babydoll.

Traditionally, silk was used for sewing peignoirs. Depending on the model, chiffon or satin, crepe de chine or crepe georgette were also used. Modern couturiers do not dwell on this noble material and are actively experimenting with lace, cotton, nylon, cambric, viscose, marquise, velor and other types of knitwear.

The main requirement for the fabric is comfort, hygiene and hygroscopicity, that is, the ability to absorb moisture vapor, which is especially important when windows and balconies are open on a stuffy summer night.

In the catalogs of all the leading fashion houses there are more than a dozen luxurious negligees that will look luxurious on any figure. However, thanks to the rather uncomplicated cut of this type of home clothes, the development and sewing of an elegant peignoir has long ceased to be the prerogative of representatives of "high fashion".

The answer to the question of what style and color to choose a peignoir depends only on the ideas of its future owner about what exactly it is purchased for. Not being a daily necessity, the negligee remains an occasion to pamper yourself.

Also important is the case for which the negligee is chosen. For example, the wedding night or a trip to the hospital implies completely different models of this garment. One way or another, when buying a negligee, you should not pay special attention to its practicality - nevertheless, this kind of thing will rather be decorative, designed to emphasize the dignity of the figure of its bearer and gently camouflage its flaws.
