Women's inconstancy is such that the owners of straight hair often dream of curly curls, and those who have lush curly hair often aspire to them. Indeed, alternating styling on straight hair with a hairstyle based on the creation of curls, you can safely claim individuality and originality. In addition, the creation of curls allows you to "tame" unruly lush hair, which, as a rule, sticks out in different directions.

But when creating such a hairdressing masterpiece, the beautiful half of humanity faces certain difficulties:

  • styling takes a lot of time;
  • it is quite difficult to independently create uniform curls all over the head.

In this connection, the beautiful half of humanity, leading an active lifestyle, does not have enough time for styling, resorts to a perm. Then the question arises: which curlers to choose?

Peculiarities

The choice of curlers or the so-called perm bobbins in the hairdressing environment depends on the desired end result.

If you want to get small curls, then the curlers should be of a small diameter. And, accordingly, large curlers will give large curls, which are especially popular with women today (small curls were in vogue in the 70-80s of the XX century).

It should also be noted that in many respects the choice of bobbins depends on the condition and structure of the hair. For example, for owners of hard hair, it is better to use curlers of a larger diameter, on which it is preferable to wind small strands of hair, otherwise the curls, due to the severity, will turn out to be poorly curled and quickly disintegrate.

Thin hair, in turn, "loves" small bobbins, which makes hair elastic, and such a curl lasts longer.

It is better to wind soft fluffy hair on medium-sized curlers, which, as a rule, allows you to neatly arrange the curls sticking out in different directions.

As for the length of the hair, one rule works here: it is preferable to use the full length of the bobbin. That is, for short hair, we choose short curlers, and for long hair, elements of the maximum length. The fact is that curlers designed for curling short hair taper towards the middle and widen at the edges. This shape avoids the tips sticking out in different directions. The shape of the curlers for long hair is the same, which contributes to the creation of uniform curls.

It should be noted that relatively recently there has appeared such a concept as the American perm, characterized by uniform and deep curls. To create such a hairstyle, spiral-shaped bobbins are used.

Types and characteristics

In fact, the variety of bobbins is not limited only by length or diameter. Curling devices and also differ in type, material of manufacture, as well as the method of fixation. As for the material, the curlers are wooden, metal (which are extremely undesirable to use for a perm), rubber, less often plastic and foam.

It is worth noting that professionals prefer wooden curlers. Firstly, the hair on them dries faster, and, secondly, when using them, the likelihood of any oxidative processes is completely excluded, which does not have a very favorable effect on the hair structure.

The diameter of the bobbins ranges from 6mm to 25mm.

For short or weakened hair, thin curlers are suitable, and for thick and long hair, curlers of a larger diameter are used, depending on the desired depth of the future curl.

If we talk about the shape of the bobbins, then it is represented by a fairly large number of variations: short to long and straight to spiral and tapered.

  1. Classic are small bobbins with a flat surface, on which there are several rows of holes for better diffusion of the chemical, and later, thanks to the holes, the hair dries faster.
  2. Classic curlers with a flat surface contrasted with spiral curlers, which are typically used for vertical curling. The so-called American curlers for American curling are distinguished here. Their peculiarity lies in sufficiently wide deep spirals, which make it possible to make tight, strong curls.
  3. Papillots - these are foam bobbins with a flexible metal rod inside. The good thing about this design is that the bobbin quickly takes on any shape. Hair of any length can be curled on papillotes.
  4. Japanese sticks, having a fairly large diameter (about 25 mm), allow you to make voluminous curls.

The use of a particular type of bobbin is determined by the desired result and certain rules of use.

Terms of use

Experienced hairdressers assess the length of the hair, its structure and condition before using the curler. The article has already noted that for short and thin hair, curlers are used, which will allow you to wrap the entire hair to the maximum. As a rule, in such cases it is appropriate to use small diameter bobbins. Otherwise, there is a possibility that the poorly wrapped ends will stick out in different directions. Spiral curlers are generally not used here. Since, firstly, their length is designed for long and medium hair. And, secondly, whatever one may say, but the ends of short hair cannot be completely wrapped, which is why, in the end, they will stick out in different directions.

To diversify the curls of short haircuts, you can use bobbins, tapered towards the center., which will allow not only to give volume at the root, but also to make a deep curl, the tip of which will also be curled. Or it would be appropriate to use cone-shaped bobbins, thanks to which you can get a deep root curl, expanding towards the end of the curl, which also adds volume to the hairstyle.

The assortment of bobbins for long hair is slightly more varied. They can be used for either regular curling or vertical curling. The peculiarity is that long hair can be curled both vertically and horizontally. The difference is that curls curled horizontally tend to fall off in chaotic curls, and such a hairstyle has to be styled.

While curls wrapped vertically are already formed vertical curls that do not need careful styling.

It will be quite enough, after combing the hair twisted in this way, to slightly "wrinkle" it with styling gel or mousse, which quickly gives shape to the curl.

And finally, the last important touch of using one or another type of bobbin is clamps or so-called clamps for clamping the hair. The clamps of classic bobbins are elastic with or without a bar. The use of curlers with a bar is appropriate for short hair, since it presses the tip of the hair so that it does not stick out in the future.

It is better to curl long hair or hair of medium length on curlers without a bar, since with an inept approach, a hairline appears most often, which spoils the look of the finished hairstyle. Nowadays, as an alternative to curlers on an elastic band, clamps for bobbins are widely used (clamps are also purchased if the elastic bands deteriorate, stretching, and the bobbins themselves are still quite appropriate for use).

The marked device is made of durable and elastic silicone, which allows you to firmly fix the hair. In order for the clamps to last as long as possible, their choice must be compared with the length of the bobbin. The manufacturer on the packaging indicates for the bobbins of what length the clamps are intended.

Safety engineering

The main safety rule says: you can not use metal curlers for a chemical wave. In addition, there are several more rules, the observance of which will allow you to avoid profuse hair loss, and also preserve the original look of the curl for as long as possible.

  1. Before starting work, it is imperative to conduct a test sample for the body's reaction. If, after applying a chemical preparation, a pronounced redness appears on the skin, then the procedure will most likely have to be suspended.
  2. Keeping the solution on for too long will cause hair breakage. It can also become brittle due to excessively tight twisting on the curlers (and if you twist it slightly, then the curl will turn out to be uneven along the entire length).
  3. Do not plan to dye 3 weeks before curling and 3 weeks after curling, as this can cause hair loss.
  4. It is not recommended to wash your hair for 3 days after curling, which will allow the substance to fix on the structure of the hairline.
  5. And the last thing that is probably known to many, but still I want to remind you: the use of expired substances is strictly prohibited.
