The owner of even the most beautiful straight hair at some point may get tired of the usual look and want to look at herself curly. While there are various ways to do this, perm "large curls" remains one of the most popular.

What it is?

Perm "large curls", as you might guess, is called that way, because as a result, the hair lies in beautiful waves of a rather large size. The essence of the procedure is that aggressive substances first destroy the chemical bonds of hair keratin - the scales open and lose their elasticity. Then, thanks to the fixator and curlers, curls are formed, and the connection inside the hair is restored. The timing of the chemistry depends on factors such as the desired look, the type of perm, and the condition of the hairline. Curled hair must not be blow-dried, combed or styled. Shampooing is also not recommended for the first few days.

A well-performed procedure and proper hair care will allow you to maintain curls for several months.

Experts identify several types of perm. Acidic for long lasting and excellent looking results. However, the hair will suffer quite a lot and after the procedure it will be dried out. You can try to resolve the issue through the abundant and regular use of hair masks. Acid perm is recommended for owners of dense and hard strands that will retain their shape and will not stretch in the root zone.

Alkaline perm has a relatively low cost and a more gentle effect on the hair. The effect of the procedure will last only 3 months, but the curls will be minimally affected and will look as natural as possible. Alkaline perm is recommended for thin, light strands, but on straight and hard strands it will not last more than 30 days.

A curl, called neutral, is suitable for all hair, even weak and damaged hair. This is due to the allantoin present in the composition. The waves look soft and natural, they do not disappear until the end of the fourth month.

Amino acid perm is also gentle, as it contains proteins that do not injure curls. This variety is suitable for thin, light strands, the length of which varies from short to medium. The period of validity of such a perm is limited to 30 days.

Silk perm is usually done on either medium or long hair. It also contains proteins, but already silk, which are responsible for softening curls and restoring the altered structure. Withstands silk perm for about two months.

Finally, there is Japanese perm, which is often carried out in parallel with coloring or highlighting. The composition of the solution used contains a special lipid-protein complex, which is responsible for strengthening the hair. In this case, the curls last from three to five months.

In general, it is not recommended to do any perm on sparse hair, as well as short strands - after all, in this case, instead of curls, only the effect of splendor will appear.

An important point: from the moment of dyeing the hair to the perm, 14 days should pass, with the exception of the Japanese technique.

Advantages and disadvantages

Perm "large curls" is long-term, which is one of its main advantages. The curl shape does not disintegrate even in rain and snow. It is better to use this technique for women with oily hair, since during the procedure, excess fat will just be eliminated. "Large curls" are also recommended for owners of fine hairs, which, as a result, become more voluminous and luxuriant. The perm does not need to be additionally styled, which means spending time and money on fixing agents.

The disadvantages of chemistry include thinning and drying of hair after curling, the possibility of allergies or even a burn. Some girls also note unnecessary lightening of the strand.

It is important to highlight the contraindications for this procedure:

  • perm is not recommended for women in position, as well as those in the lactation period;
  • identified allergic reactions to chemical constituents serve as an obstacle.

What curlers are needed?

Curlers or bobbins used for perm must have a large diameter. The simplest solution is to purchase plastic papillotes, for example, boomerangs or conical ones. By adding special wavelike plates to the bobbins, it will be possible to start implementing retro hairstyles.

Preparing for the procedure

Before curling, be sure to check the manifestation of an allergic reaction to the drug used. To do this, just apply the solution to the bend of the elbow, wrist or the area behind the ear and see what happens in the next quarter of an hour. The absence of itching, rash or redness means that it is safe to use. You should definitely wash your head, but only with shampoo containing natural oils. This should be done with the utmost care, without any massage or rubbing the scalp. The fact is that such actions can lead to the appearance of microtrauma or other damage and, as a result, to unpleasant sensations during the use of chemicals.

If necessary, you should first shorten the hair. The thinner the hair itself, the shorter its required length. The same applies to thick, long strands - curling them will be extremely difficult.

Execution technology

As mentioned above, it is recommended to perm "large curls" only for long or medium hair, but with short hair it is better to refrain from it. Although if there is a great desire, then you can try. To do this at home, you will need a special chemical composition "Lokon", as well as large bobbins and the fixer that comes with it. In addition, basic tools come in handy: a container made of glass or plastic, a brush and comb, towels, protective gloves, vinegar and cream. The latter is useful in order to protect the skin of the ears and at the junction of the hair and the frontal area.

It is better to fix the bangs immediately with a hair clip, since if you want to curl it, you will have to use a product of lower concentration and bobbins of a different size. The entire hair mass is subdivided into an anterior and a pair of lateral sections. The strands are wound on the bobbins so that the width of the first does not exceed the width of the second. The curling method is chosen depending on the length of the hair.

If it is short, then first the hair is treated with a special mixture, and then wound up. Medium length implies the reverse order: wind up first, then moisten. Finally, long strands are processed in a mixed fashion. The ends are moistened, then twisted, and then all the bobbins are covered with the mixture.

The treated head is wrapped in polyethylene or hides under a hat made of the same material, and on top is insulated with a towel. Then you have to withstand from a third of an hour to 40 minutes, depending on the condition of the hair. After about half of this period, you can unfold one or two bobbins and see what happened. As soon as the curls reach the required degree of curl, it's time to rinse the hair along with the bobbins. After drying, fixer is applied with a towel.

After five minutes, the bobbins can be removed, and the fixer can be reapplied to the hair for another five minutes. After that, the head will have to be rinsed again using warm water, in which a little vinegar is diluted.

After wetting the strands with a towel, they should be allowed to dry naturally.

Care

So that the curls do not disappear after a couple of days, and the romantic hairstyle continues to delight its owner, it is necessary to adhere to several rules for caring for chemically curled hair. Weakened hair that has become dry and easily breakable should be treated with products with other compositions. You will need to purchase shampoos, masks and balms containing collagen, panthenol and silk proteins. The ends of the hair will have to be cut off in time and regularly treated with serums that prevent splitting. In the first days after curling, washing your head is generally not allowed.

Further, the procedure should be carried out using solutions with a gentle composition and must be completed with a natural rinse, for example, with a solution of chamomile or nettle. Drying curls should ideally be natural, only slightly dabbing moisture with a soft towel. If it is not possible to refuse a hair dryer, then it is recommended to choose cold air and combine it with a diffuser. Going to bed with your head completely dry is strongly discouraged.

Large curls are combed with a comb, which has rare teeth, which is able to immediately form a beautiful curl shape. A massage brush in this situation will only do harm by ugly fluffing up the strands. At least once a week, you will have to do a recovery mask based on honey or aloe vera juice. In addition, it would be good to use natural oils - for example, burdock, peach or almond.

Curls should be protected from direct sunlight, rough metal accessories or similar combs. If possible, avoid tight braids and tails, and leave your hair loose.
