All about Bauer skates
The Bauer brand has established itself in the professional hockey equipment market. These are always high-quality models, which are developed by an entire research institute.
Advantages and disadvantages
Bauer skates are very popular for many reasons. The first thing I want to say is the advantages that the products of this brand have:
- scientific approach to the production of hockey shoes;
- can be selected for hockey players with non-standard feet, including narrow ones;
- the brand offers a wide range of models to choose from with different fit, each of which is unique in its own way;
- they are always comfortable, well-stitched models made of high quality materials.
One cannot but mention the shortcomings, of which there are not so many, and the main one is the cost. Not every novice hockey player can afford such shoes.
The lineup
The model range of the described brand includes not only professional men's ice hockey skates, but also children's top models. Even the same size, but in great lines, these shoes can feel differently.
You need to know about some of the features of the products offered. The Vapor range does not have the 11.5 adult size. This applies only to two models: x500 and x900. If we talk about juniors, then the size range starts from 3.5 in the 1x line and from 3 in the x900. The large size can be found only in the x700, where the manufacturer offers sizes from 13 to 15.
When choosing skates from the same model range x700, you can limit yourself to numbers from 1 to 12, while the completeness is D (R). Children's ice skates 1X from the x500 series are numbered 8 and 9 for fullness D, from 10 to 13.5 completeness is available in two versions: D and EE.
In the Nexus range of ice hockey skates, the 2N and N700 options are only available in one D size in sizes 10.5 to 12.
It doesn't matter what kind of skates you choose, be it goalkeeper or curly, you need to know exactly the parameters of your foot and more. Sometimes even this data is not enough to correctly determine which model is best suited. Before making your final choice, you need to try on shoes.
To study in more detail the features of each family offered by the brand, it is worth studying the review, which presents not only white models.
Nexus
Models of this series are the best solution for people with non-standard full feet. The manufacturer has thought of a high level of protection. All models in this range are suitable for both professionals and amateurs.
Nexus Havok Senior
This model provides a voluminous fit with extra space built into the skate, suitable for players with wide feet and high insteps. Equipped with 3D fiber composite quarter pack. The outsole has also been redesigned and is made from a composite material, thus increasing rigidity.
This model has a HYDRA MAX 2 insole that wicks moisture and heat well.
N2700 Senior
These skates are designed with volume in mind, with increased instep, wider forefoot and heel, and a higher boot height. Inside there is a hydrophobic microfiber insole.

The skates of this family are distinguished by an anatomical fit. There is a minimum gap between the shoe and the foot. This is the ideal solution for those players who prefer medium heights and full feet.
2S Senior Hockey Skate
It is the newest member of the Supreme family, specially adapted to the shape of the midfoot. The model has a 3D curved composite outsole that provides the necessary rigidity. Skates have anatomical thermoforming.
2S Pro
The construction used a 3D carbon composite. Bauer's patented material is thermoformed and ultra-lightweight. Reflex Pro 3-piece tongue with molded inserts. The cladding has composite inserts that provide additional protection without compromising mobility.
Bauer has changed its eyelet system. The new three are located closer to the ankle and are offset. This design allows you to customize the lacing to optimize comfort and performance.
2S Youth
The youth variant 2S features a fiber composite quarter cup for maximum support. It is matched with a lightweight TPR outsole. These skates are anatomically shaped thermoformed and are molded when heated, giving the player a 360-degree custom fit.

Models of this series are considered the most popular among professionals and not only. If you have a narrow foot with a low instep, then this solution is exclusively for you. The heel is narrowed, there is a visible expansion towards the nose. The wedge-shaped shape is the main distinguishing feature of the skates of this family.
Vapor 1X
Features a boot construction with an aluminized composite upper and curved ankle support. Curv casing reduces weight, provides better support. TOIn addition, the redesigned X-Rib heel pattern improves support and ankle, making it easier to pivot and quicker return to the starting position.
This model has a snug fit due to the special lacing. In addition, a curved composite insert in the metatarsal guard provides increased protection and increased support. The 37.5 Technology liner helps regulate temperature and harnesses the heat generated by the body to speed up the drying time of the skates. Typically 37.5 Tech dries 5x faster than comparable liners.
X Shift Pro
These are elite class skates. The X Shift Pro features thin Tuuk LS3 + steel, comfortable edge padding, a new asymmetrical toe box, a redesigned felt tongue and Lock Fit liner.
Skate Fit Profile
The Vapor is still the best choice for low-profile skaters. While they don't fit as tightly to the forefoot as the previous generation pairs, the fit is definitely tighter than the Supreme or Nexus.
This model is designed for professionals. The X Shift Pro skate is equipped with a 3D fiber composite material. It's lightweight, thermoformable and provides ample heel support. Comfort padding along the edges provides the necessary comfort and helps to relieve pressure from the top of the skate when taking aggressive turns.

The NS hockey skate tongue is a 30oz felt material that is flexible and comfortable. Another great feature is the use of a stainless steel blade in the TUUK Lightspeed pro II holder. All this provides perfect support for newbies.
Components
The described brand offers anatomical insoles made of an innovative material that prevents the foot from overheating and at the same time repels moisture, contributes to the quick drying of the skates inside.
The blades are made of high quality steel. As for glasses, there are three main types:
- TUUK LIGHTSPEED EDGE;
- TUUK LIGHTSPEED 2;
- LIGHTSPEED Pro.
The TUUK LIGHTSPEED EDGE variant replaces the TUUK LIGHTSPEED 2. They feature quick blade changes, increased height, front and rear uprights, and 4 holes along the blade.
LIGHTSPEED Pro is a cast construction, the blade cannot be changed. If something is damaged, then the whole structure changes completely.
Dimensions and completeness
Few people thought about the fact that the size of a person's foot changes during the day. This is due to physiology, in the evening we get tired, blood flows to the feet, from which they become wider, longer.
That is why it is advised to choose shoes in the afternoon or early in the morning - however, as well as to take measurements.
Moreover, ice hockey skates are worn exclusively with socks, therefore all foot measurements are taken in thermal underwear.
To determine the dimension of your own foot, you need to put a sheet of paper on the floor and circle your leg. After measuring the distance from beginning to end, using as a basis the extreme points of the resulting contour. Determine the indicators at once on both legs, if they differ, then take into account the larger one, rounding up to 0.5 in cm.
Each manufacturer offers its own adult and children's size charts, and these are not standard, usual for us 38 or 43 sizes. This is one of the reasons why skate selection cannot be done without trying on.
Another important parameter is completeness. It means how many centimeters of the foot are in girth. Measurement is taken at the widest part. The indicator is indicated on the shoe in numbers or letters. For our country, these are values from 1 to 12, while an interval of 4 mm is observed. In Europe, it is used from 1 to 10, but the spacing is 5 mm. In the USA and England, it is customary to use the letter designation of completeness: A, B, C, D, F. The first letter indicates a narrow foot, G and H are considered the widest.
It also happens that on purchased skates there is no indication of completeness. In this case, the shoes are manufactured at a standard rate.
To determine this parameter, it is necessary to measure the width and length of the foot in the evening, then divide the second indicator by the first.
The Bauer brand has four letters for the fullness of the foot:
- C (N);
- D (R);
- E (W);
- EE (EW).
The first letter means narrow leg, the second - normal, the third - wide and the fourth - very wide.

Thermoforming at home
Anyone willing to buy skates needs to learn how to mold them correctly. Today it is one of the most accessible methods of how you can "fit" shoes as much as possible and make them the most comfortable.
Thermoforming refers to the heating of the ridge. Thanks to this heating, the material from which the shoes are made becomes more plastic, therefore, the model takes the exact shape that the foot has.
Thanks to such simple actions, the skates become as comfortable as possible when using. When the shoe cools down, it will regain its stiffness. The skates are obtained with a unique anatomical shape, they completely and completely repeat the lines of the human foot.
Thermoforming can be of two types:
- full;
- partial.
Models in the expensive category allow you to fully adapt the shoe to fit. These skates usually have special markings. As a result of complete thermoforming, not only the lower part of the skates, but all the rest take the shape of a leg. This is also the padded insoles.
As for partial thermoforming, after it only the shoe becomes as close as possible in shape to that of the human foot, but no changes occur in the area of the foot.
When buying new skates, most users wonder if molding is necessary in this case. If this is an expensive model, then it keeps its shape quite well and does not change it even after a few years.
Speaking about the professional use of skates, in this case it is worth thinking about thermoforming, which is carried out at a temperature of about 80 C.
If you do something wrong, shoes can be easily ruined, especially since not all models and manufacturers support molding. Usually, this information is indicated in the documents for the model.
At home, it is recommended to use an oven to heat the skates, but only when it has hot air convection.
In any other case, it is better to contact the store.
