Skates of the manufacturer SALVO
During the Soviet era, ice skating was a favorite pastime for many. And almost every teenager dreamed of skating "Salvo". They were considered more valuable than today's coolest devices. The production of SALVO skates continues to this day. Until now, the products of the famous brand are in great demand among buyers, and all thanks to many years of experience and high quality of products.
Advantages and disadvantages
The first skates appeared in Russia during the reign of Peter I, who brought this sports equipment from Holland. Although they were not originally used for sports, this only happened hundreds of years later. Skates became widespread after the first hockey games between the USSR and Canada, which took place in 1972. There was a huge variety of them, the most popular were "eiders" and "Canadians". And only later the players of CSKA were given out skates "Salvo", the country of origin of which was one of the countries that are part of the USSR - Estonia.
They made a splash as they were the first skates to feature a sole that was fixed to the blade and was made of plastic. In the 80s, the manufacturer developed a new design for the skates - one-piece.
Even now, 45 years later, Salvo products are quite popular with customers. This is due to a number of inherent advantages of the brand's products.
- Symbol of the past, which is associated with fond memories from the childhood of many Soviet children and adolescents. Hockey fans see Salvo skates as a symbol of the series of games.
- Comfortable leg fit, which is tightly fixed with laces for maximum comfort while skating on ice.
- A special removable boot is provided inside, which serves as insulation and a soft insert. If necessary, it can be pulled out to dry or wash.
- Long service life, which is achieved due to the high quality of materials used in the production. Salvo skates are much stronger and safer than many of their modern counterparts.
- Produced in a wide range of sizes.
- Made from three types of quality material - genuine and artificial leather, CP93 synthetic material.
- Thanks to the cast design, they had light weight, which is very convenient when performing complex elements in figure skating and maneuverability in hockey.
It is also worth noting the negative aspects of Salvo skates:
- rather high cost for brand products - at the time when Salvo skates were still available to everyone, the price for one pair could exceed 3 thousand rubles;
- ice arena technicians noted that blades on skates severely spoil the surface of the ice rink;
- not suitable for amateur riding;
- many do not like method of fixing on rivets, since, in the opinion of athletes, he does not firmly fix the leg in the boot;
- outdated design, while many modern models are available in bright and interesting colors.
Unfortunately, the company for the production of professional skates "Salvo" closed in 2008, so today the brand's products can only be bought from private individuals.
Model overview
Despite the closure of the company, many fans of Soviet-made skates still ride them on the rink. We suggest recalling what features the models of the famous Estonian manufacturer possessed.
- The new collection of cast skates, released by the company after the 80s, made a splash among hockey players and ordinary ice skating fans. The improved product design was much stronger than previous models. The manufacturer took into account the poor resistance of the first models to frost and released skates with an excellent indicator of frost resistance and strength.
- The outer boot consisted of lightweight and durable plastic or leather (natural and artificial), it was well fixed on the leg with a comfortable lacing. The inner boot was made of a soft material that perfectly retains heat and removes excess moisture. It was removable so you could always dry it or wash it after your workout.
- Blades were made of durable steel with a high level of rust resistance.
- Models produced in a wide variety of sizes, therefore, everyone could easily choose the most suitable option for themselves.
- The exterior design was austere and laconic - black, with an insert of the corporate logo on the side or back of the boot, lacing - white.
Comparison with skates "Dynamo"
Salvo skates have been on the sports equipment market for a long time; in comparison with other manufacturers, they have a number of significant advantages. For example, if you compare this brand with a similar one - Dynamo, you can immediately note that Salvo ice skating shoes are much lighter, more durable and easier to handle.
To understand which model to choose for hockey, you should try skates from both brands on ice, as simple fitting will not help you determine exactly which is more convenient to use.
If we compare affordability, Dynamo skates are much easier to find, and you can buy them both used and new, while you can buy Salvo skates only from private individuals in used condition.
