Recently, the fashion for long pointed nails is gradually fading away. Modern women are in favor of natural beauty, which is why many people prefer to do manicure on short round nails. In this article we will tell you how to carry out the procedure at home and offer beautiful design ideas for this nail shape.

At home

Many girls take care of their nails on their own, which is not difficult at all. First of all, you should dip your fingers into a bath of warm soapy water. This is necessary in order for the skin and the nail plate to become softer and more pliable. After 10 minutes, hands are dried with a soft towel, and the preparatory process begins. With the help of nail scissors, you should cut off the nails shortly, and then give them a rounded shape with a nail file.

Remember that short, round nails are suitable for those with medium to long toes.

Use orange sticks to push back the softened cuticle. Professional craftsmen do not recommend cutting it with scissors, since the extra skin will still grow, but it will become tough and rough. You can lightly buff the surface of the plate to level it. Nails are ready for manicure. Before applying colored varnish, you should cover them with a base for a more accurate look. Sometimes small bubbles appear on the surface, in order to avoid them, immediately before using the varnish, turn the bottle over and shake it slightly. This will raise all the air and not remain in the texture.

Color combinations

First of all, you should know which shades are strictly prohibited for short, rounded nails.Owners of such a manicure should avoid colors that are too bright or acidic, which look great on a long plate, but are completely unsuitable for a short one. Beware of yellow, white, orange, red and other tones.

Any dark color is perfect for this option. For example, burgundy, eggplant, dark red, brown and even black. If the above colors are ideal for winter, then in spring you can choose from a pastel palette. The optimal tones will be cornflower blue, canary yellow, lilac, blue, pale pink, mint and even flesh. In the summer, make sure your manicure and pedicure are the same color.

Lovers of classic French manicure will have to forget about this design with short nails. and wait until they grow back at least a couple of millimeters. The short length leaves no room for even a thin white stripe. It is not recommended to load your fingers with rhinestones or sparkles, as they will visually make your fingers thick and ugly. You will have to give up the matte manicure, which has not lost ground for several seasons in a row.

If you really want to give your nails an interesting look, you can replace the matte texture with a more delicate powdery one.

Design options

There are tons of interesting design options for short, round nails. All of them are aimed at giving the hands a graceful and beautiful look.

  • Monochrome. The standard manicure, the idea of which is to evenly cover all the fingers with the desired color. Monochrome manicure is considered ideal for any shape and length of the nail plate.
  • Polka dots. An interesting idea for a summer design. First of all, the background layer is applied, and then with the help of a brush or a toothpick, a pattern in the form of dots is drawn. They can be evenly distributed over the entire plate, make a vertical strip along it, or draw a dotted line at the base.

In winter, you can use a dark shade of red, blue or purple as a background, and paint the peas with black. For summer, the ideal option would be a background of any pastel shade and point of white.

        • Ombre. An interesting and beautiful design, the feature of which is a smooth transition from one shade to another, is of two types. In the first case, the transition occurs on each finger. The first layer is the base: white or nude. Next, a small piece of a regular dish sponge is painted in the desired shades, and the pattern is transferred from the material to the nail. The most beautiful are the smooth transitions from dark to light, for example, from dark blue to light blue, as well as multi-colored ombre, where there is a combination of several colors, for example, pink, blue and lilac.

In the second version, the transition of shades occurs alternately from the thumb to the little finger. The darkest shade is applied to the outermost finger, and each subsequent one is painted a little lighter than the previous one.

          • Stripes. Special manicure strips look very interesting on short round nails. They are a thin multi-colored line with a shiny texture and an adhesive backing. It is better to place them vertically or diagonally - this way the nails will look longer. Be sure to fix the manicure with a top coat so that the decor does not come off.
          • Patterns. Nail art on short nails is not particularly welcome, but there are interesting options that are quite suitable for owners of a classic shape. You can apply the selected color to all nails, except for the nameless one, and grease the rest with a transparent base and draw the pattern with a thin brush. Or apply the image with a contrasting color.

A variety of curls, letters, notes or monograms are used as a pattern. There are also more fun ideas, for example, a bee, a butterfly, a heart, stars and much more, for which the client's imagination is enough.

                • Geometry. Geometric patterns will visually stretch your fingers. The manicure will look very original, especially if you make each line in a different color. As a rule, zigzag or wavy patterns are drawn. Any colors can be chosen. You can alternate black or burgundy with white, make a selection of several pastel shades, or draw a kind of geometric ombre.
