Everything you need to know about allergic cats
It used to be believed that if you, your child or loved ones suffer from allergies, then it is categorically contraindicated to have pets. Nowadays, there is a unique opportunity to obtain a special hypoallergenic breed of cats by breeding. American breeders introduced the allergic cat to the world to such ideal animals.
Cats and allergies
The cause of the allergic reaction is not wool, as many people think, but various types of Fe / D1 protein, which are present in saliva, sweat, urine, and sebum of animals. This allergen spreads through the living space, entering the respiratory tract of an allergic person and causing severe attacks. If the cat has a thick coat, then with its help it is easier for the allergen to fly around the house. It has also been observed that white or light-colored felines are less likely to cause allergic reactions in humans.
The history of the emergence of the super breed
The mistrust of the amazing new breed is primarily due to its breeder Simon Brody. Even before breeding the allergic cat, he had already created a supposedly unique cat of Asher, but later it turned out that the new animal was just a subspecies of the African wild cat, the serval. Therefore, many were skeptical about the news that the American research corporation Allerca had developed the world's first hypoallergenic breed.
The company submits its documents, in which it is recorded that the bred individuals lack the gene responsible for the production of allergenic enzymes, that is, this cat is completely hypoallergenic. The owners of the corporation even guarantee to return a lot of money spent on the purchase if the new owners show even the slightest symptoms of allergies.
Characteristics of the animal
It should be noted right away that the allergic cat is not officially recognized by the World Cat Federation WCF.
You can buy it only abroad, in Russia there are no official breeders of these animals due to the terms of the contract when purchasing a cat - only as a pet, not for breeding.
Allerca is a medium-sized individual that weighs 4 to 8 kilograms in adulthood. Typical for this animal is the color of black marble on a golden coat, at first glance, this is a cat with the usual spotted color. Foreign breeders claim that the secretions of the salivary and sweat glands of allergies are absolutely safe for people with allergies.
Advantages and disadvantages
As with any breed of animals, cats have positive and negative qualities of allergies. The advantages of these cats are as follows:
- ideal for people with various allergic diseases;
- have an attractive appearance;
- have an agreeable, peaceful character;
- get along well with children and get along with any pets.
The disadvantages include the following nuances:
- a very high price even for small kittens;
- the unique hypoallergenicity of the animal has not been officially proven;
- not recognized by the World Cat Federation as an independent breed;
- you can buy only from foreign breeders, there is no way to personally examine the animal when buying.

Care advice
Foreign breeders claim that caring for allergies is not difficult at all. They are unpretentious in food, but it is still better to feed them with ready-made super-premium food. The short coat of these cats does not require special and constant grooming.
They are absolutely non-aggressive and friendly, intelligent and amenable to training, but at the same time they love only gentle, calm treatment.
These felines are active and energetic and need a lot of space to play. In order to accurately answer the question about the hypoallergenicity of an allergic cat, it will take a considerable amount of time and independent studies of this aspect.
