Depending on the characteristics of the composition and quality, cat food is divided into classes. The premium option is not the best, but it is superior in quality to the economy class feed and is one of the most common. The main reason for this is optimality in terms of price and quality.

Features of the composition of dry food

Premium dry food is priced slightly more than economy class food, but it is prepared from higher quality raw materials and has a balanced composition. The composition must necessarily contain protein. It is usually represented by chicken, chicken protein, corn gluten.

By specifying chicken in the composition, the manufacturer means not only chicken meat, but also crushed skin, tendons, bone meal. Despite the presence of vegetable protein, animal protein should still come first. If the protein is represented by corn gluten, soy, then it is better to refuse the purchase. These are not the protein compounds that the predator's body needs, and, in addition, plant protein is a strong allergen.

Carbohydrates in such products are represented by rice, wheat and other cereals.

In addition, premium feed is enriched with micro and macro elements, vitamins, taurine. In order for the food to be stored for a long time and to have a certain texture, preservatives and stabilizers are added to it. As a rule, if these components are of natural origin (for example, tocopherol), then the manufacturer indicates this on the packaging. Naturally, natural preservatives are better than synthetic ones.

It is not recommended to introduce dry food into the diet of kittens earlier than 2.5-3 months, since hard food is still very rough for unformed digestion. After the specified period, you can begin to introduce granules, having previously soaked them in water. Milk should not be used for this.

Canned food components

Canned food is usually a piece of meat or fish drenched in jelly or sauce. Such a product can be introduced into the diet of an animal as early as 1.5 months. At the same time, they emit more liquid consistencies - wet food, and denser ones - canned food. Both options are also suitable for pets with sensitive digestion.

The form of release of wet food is spider, that is, metallized soft packaging. Some manufacturers use tin cans. In most cases, the amount of feed is just enough for one meal, which is very convenient. However, the introduction of food into the diet of the tailed beasts should be started gradually, with a small dosage.

As with dry food, canned food contains animal protein. Typically, this is chicken and fish, the more expensive options are turkey and rabbit. Carbohydrates are represented by rice, corn, oats, wheat. Hypoallergenic feed is produced without grain. Wet food, like dry food, is enriched with micro and macro elements, vitamins, and may contain probiotics. In general, its composition does not differ much from the dry analogue. An exception is the presence of meat or fish broth and gelling components.

Rating of the best domestic manufacturers

Eukanuba

The list of feeds produced by Russia is not so extensive. It should definitely include the product "Eukanuba", which was previously produced only in Holland. Now it is being made on the territory of the Russian Federation. The basis is animal protein from poultry meat. Carbohydrates are represented by rice. The food is enriched with animal fats, minerals, probiotics.

Shermurr

The Shermurr feed has a good composition, which contains up to 80% of meat and offal. Animal protein - 29%. Refers to low-grain feed, contains vegetables, fiber, vitamins and minerals, taurine. Release form - canned food. The disadvantage of this feed can be considered the lack of information about what types of meat, in addition to chicken, are used. The manufacturer forgot to write about what specific offal are in the composition. It is not specified what fiber and what grains are present in this feed.

Karmy

Among the premium-class feeds, Karmy is also distinguished. Suitable for kittens, including those with sensitive digestion. The content of animal protein is 38%, but a minus is immediately visible - meat and fish have a dehydrated form. The carbohydrates are brown and white rice. Fat is represented by fatty acids.

Fiber is a dried apple, the feed is enriched with a vitamin-mineral complex and probiotics.

Undesirable elements include brewer's yeast.

Foreign brands

Purina

The Purina company is one of the most famous brands in the domestic market. Pro Plan has a fairly extensive product line - food for kittens and adults, animals over 7 years old, cats that have undergone surgery, food for certain diseases. Specialists and cat owners note the high quality of the product and the affordability of its cost. Up to 20% of the feed is chicken meat, poultry protein powder, wheat gluten and corn. The food is enriched with the necessary amount of micro and macro elements, probiotics for better assimilation.

Royal canin

Royal Canin food, despite its high popularity, cannot be called as high-quality in composition as the previous version, and all because it contains dehydrated protein, animal protein hydrolyzate and protein isolate of plant origin. The composition also contains soy, high in fat.

Brit

Higher quality can be called the feed of the Czech company Brit. The product has a higher cost compared to other premium feed, but this is justified by the composition. Up to 38% of the latter is chicken. The fat is represented by salmon and chicken fat. Lack of composition - the presence of allergenic corn and rice in the composition... The food also includes a small amount of valerian, but the amount is calculated in such a way as to only attract the cat to the food, but in no way cause addiction or inappropriate behavior.

Brewer's yeast can be called an undesirable component in the Brit feed, in addition, the manufacturer indicates the presence of by-products in the product, which ones he does not specify.

Cat & kitten

High cost and the same high quality distinguish Cat & Kitten food from the Canadian firm Orijen. The product is suitable for both kittens and adults, and has no analogues among the feed of this segment. Up to 85% of the composition is represented by animal protein - this is the meat of birds grown in ecologically impeccable areas, wild sea fish and egg whites.

Grain elements have replaced phytocomponents, fruits and vegetables.

The level of calcium, carbohydrates and phosphorus is balanced, the amount of omega-3 fatty acids is optimal.

Bozita

Another fairly high cost feed is Bozita. Sometimes it is mistakenly referred to as a super-premium feed, but this is not true - you need to focus not on cost, but on the composition. It is also represented by chicken and salmon protein (up to 35% of the composition). The second most important component is corn flour in its pure form, which is as useless for the feline body as it is allergenic, capable of provoking digestive disorders. Despite this, this feed has mostly positive reviews.

1st Choice

The next product is 1.5 times cheaper - we are talking about 1st Choice. It is often used as food for kittens as there is special food for babies in the product line. The product contains a high content of animal protein, which is so necessary for a growing body... The amount of protein in the body reaches 30%, and it is represented by chicken and poultry protein. Carbohydrates are rice and oats. The presence of herbs makes it possible to enrich the composition; natural tocopherol is used as a preservative. The food is positioned as hypoallergenic, which is confirmed by pet owners and professionals.

Happy cat

The food from the German manufacturer Happy Cat boasts a high protein content. It contains 21% chicken protein and 8% lamb meat protein.

Carbohydrates are represented by rice and corn, the product is enriched with vitamins and probiotics.

Minette

For feeding kittens from 2 months, pregnant and lactating cats, you should pay attention to Minette food (Germany). It is high in calories, but easy to digest. The food contains natural meat, there are no offal. The only "but" - the meat is represented by flour from turkey and chicken meat, as well as salmon. Up to 2% of the composition is occupied by plant fiber, which helps to improve the digestion of the pet and remove wool lumps from the esophagus.

Nature cat

For animals with allergies or simply sensitive digestion, choose grain-free foods such as Nature Cat. Up to 29% of the composition is represented by poultry meat, another 10% - salmon meat.

Also, the feed includes phytocomponents, fiber, taurine.

Does not contain synthetic preservatives. Among the disadvantages of Nature Cat is not whole meat, but flour in the composition, brewer's yeast is also present.

Hill's

Hill's (Netherlands) products are valuable and balanced from a nutritional point of view. Its basis is chicken meat and poultry meal, pea-based protein, fish protein and eggs.

Carbohydrates are represented by rice, fruits and vegetables are also included. Fats - fish oil useful to the body of fluffies. Not only pet owners, but also veterinarians note the quality of the Hills feed composition. Undesirable ingredients include brewer's yeast and flavor enhancers.

Almo nature

Among the premium canned food, it is worth highlighting the Almo Nature chicken meat product. According to the manufacturer, the unique production technology allows you to preserve the maximum benefit of each ingredient. This is possible, since the product is first placed in a jar, then sealed, and only after that it undergoes heat treatment. The percentage of protein cannot be called high - 19%, in addition, rice, chicken broth and a small amount of fat are included in the composition.

The product is enriched with probiotics, vitamin and mineral complex.

How to choose?

When choosing premium food, you should first of all pay attention to composition:

  • not less than 35% the composition should be occupied by meat and products of its processing;
  • not less than 20% - protein of animal origin;
  • no more than 10% - offal (liver, lungs), if this ingredient is absent, this is not a violation;
  • no more than 25% - components of vegetable origin (cereals).

Premium food should be enriched with vitamins and minerals, and to preserve its properties - and preservatives, it is better to be of natural origin. Sometimes on the packaging you can find the inscription "bone meal" - this should not frighten the owner of the animal. Of course, flour is worse than whole meat, however, and it is a source of animal protein.

A quality product should not contain cellulose, propylene glycol, sweeteners, salt, synthetic oxidants (one of them is E321 or E320), artificial colors (E127). It is optimal if the package contains data not only about the manufacturer, expiration date and composition, but also presents the feeding scheme of the animal depending on its weight and age.

Small kittens and pets with sensitive digestion are best fed with canned food, since such a product is easier to digest. However, as the animal grows, hard granules should be included in its diet - this contributes to the development of the jaws, helps to clean the teeth.

Reviews

The 1st Choice food is highly appreciated by the owners. The owners of the kittens note the hypoallergenicity of the feed, the improvement in the quality of the wool when it is consumed, the problems with the skin of the pets are eliminated: irritation and peeling go away. The Bozita product has good reviews, however, there are users who indicate a violation of the stool in kittens after this treat.

Despite the wide publicity of the Royal Canin brand (the manufacturer sponsors numerous cat shows), it receives more and more negative reviews from breeders. The reason is the unbalanced composition, a lot of synthetic ingredients. In addition, the owners note the appearance of a reddish color in the kittens, especially noticeable in silver and snow-white seals.

Kitten owners recommend using Hill's Ideal Balance food with caution. Despite the fairly high-quality and balanced composition, this food is very fatty. In addition, it often provokes a violation of the stool - from mild softening to severe attacks of pancreatitis. Finally, in some cats, food causes skin problems: pimples, inflammation, flaking.

One of the most common foods, Pro Plan, has a lot of positive reviews. The owners say that the product does not impair digestion and does not cause allergies.

The quality of the wool does not change in a special way, although it does not deteriorate. There are statements that pets consume canned food of this brand with greater pleasure than dry granules.
