When a new four-legged friend appears in the house, he immediately falls in love with all the tenants of the apartment - from the smallest to the adults. And everyone wants the kitten to be playful, cheerful and healthy, so a lot of time and money is spent on organizing his leisure time. However, the most important aspect in the good development of a pet is proper and healthy nutrition, which is completely dependent on the owners.

Features of the super premium food

Already from the name it becomes clear that the super-premium products are the best in the line of ready-made food for kittens. Let's consider its features.

  • These feeds contain the necessary amount of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, which are so necessary for a growing body. Read the composition carefully - meat or fish must be indicated there. Be careful: if the label says “meat products”, it means that low quality meat or a substitute was used.
  • Unlike premium food, they do not contain preservatives that can be detrimental to your pet's health.
  • The complete composition is always indicated on the packaging of such food, and all ingredients are indicated in a clear weight or in percentage. If there is less than 7 percent meat or fish in the feed, then this means that bone meal was used, and this can negatively affect the cat's health.
  • The price is higher than that of other food classes also because the same ingredients are used in the super-premium food that humans eat.

Types of feed

There are several types of classification.

By target audience

Here feeds are distinguished:

  • for adult cats;
  • for kittens.

What is the difference between food for older cats and food for small kittens? The fact is that the composition of feed for mature cats differs in a set of vitamins and minerals: there is a completely different amount of fats, proteins and carbohydrates, the feed has a different processing technology. Also, the difference is that food for adult animals does not meet the biological needs of the kitten, which means that it can harm the baby. The need for a growing organism for energy is much greater, so food for little furry friends is more nutritious. The pellet size of the kitten food is several times smaller and softer.

If you choose to feed your pet food that is not intended for him, it can cause digestive upset and other gastrointestinal problems.

By the method of reception

Dry food or they are also called "drying". The composition includes all the necessary components necessary for a growing body. Many owners give preference to this food, because it does not deteriorate and you can put it in a bowl when leaving for work and not worry that the kitten will not eat anything during the day. Also, when eating, the area around the plate is not polluted, and the animal itself remains clean.

The "drying" has its own peculiarity: since the feed is in granules, it should be introduced into the diet of a growing organism gradually and start no earlier than 2 months.

At first, it is worth softening the food in warm water, but not in milk - this can cause gastrointestinal upset.

When feeding a kitten, you should adhere to certain rules.

  • There should always be enough water in the bowl so that the pet can wash down the food if desired.
  • Don't mix dry and natural. If you decide to feed your pet with natural food, be it porridge or fish, in no case mix it all in one plate! This can lead to the fact that when eating, the four-legged pet will not notice the granule, will not chew and choke. Therefore, it is best to use different bowls for different types of feed.
  • Make sure your baby does not overeat. The kitten cannot control the satiety process by itself, therefore it is the owner's duty to calculate the weight of the animal and add food in portions.
  • Feed should be introduced into the diet gradually. It is impossible to give a small kitten a full portion right off the bat - this can have a bad effect on his stomach.

Wet food is an intermediate form. It consists of pieces of meat or fish, filled with jelly or liquid sauce. This kind of food will appeal to even the pickiest kittens. But this type of food also has its own specific feeding rules.

  • It is worth entering into the diet no earlier than in a month and a half.
  • Most often, such food is packed in a can or in a spider, where the weight is calculated for 1 portion, which makes it very convenient to use. But if for some reason your kitten does not eat the entire portion at once, then you should pour in the required amount, and put the rest in the refrigerator. This is a product that quickly deteriorates, so you need to monitor the cat's bowl and, if possible, wash it immediately after eating. In this regard, wet food is in less demand, because it cannot be poured into the feeder and left for a long time.
  • A positive feature of this feed can be considered that its moisture content is one third of the total mass of the feed. This type of food is perfect for those kittens who don't drink much.

Canned food. The advantage of this food is a long shelf life without a refrigerator, but only as long as it is hermetically packed in a can. After opening, the shelf life in the refrigerator is no more than two days. And it is best to pour the canned food into a glass jar or plastic container. It is better to feed the kitten in small portions so that the food does not spoil in the open air.

Kitten owners reviews

As mentioned earlier, the rating of the food was compiled according to several criteria, one of which was based on the opinions of the owners of the kittens. In order not to be unfounded, we provide some reviews of the products included in the list of the best for kittens.

Having carefully studied the reviews of owners of different breeds of cats, we can say that, in general, most owners of super-premium food like it more, because they are more natural and versatile.

On veterinary forums, the largest number of positive reviews were received by the product lines of the 1st Choice and Brit Care companies, from the positive sides they singled out: affordability, suitable for different breeds, furry friends liked the taste, there were no problems with dietary feed intake. Of the minuses: before starting feeding, it was advised to contact a veterinarian if the kitten already had digestive problems.

As for food for kittens of the Acana and Innova EVO series, they are much less discussed due to the high price., but from the reviews of the owners who buy this food for their pets, it is clear that this food contains all the necessary vitamins and does not cause allergies and disorders. Nine out of 10 people surveyed would recommend this food. Of the minuses, they stand out: the cost is very high, one and a half to two times higher than that of the previous lines, and can be purchased only in specialized stores.

What I would like to say in the end to the owners of kittens: do not try to save on food for your pets and carefully read the composition.

The health of your four-legged friend depends on it.
