What are the colors of Neva Masquerade cats?
Nevskaya Masquerade is a Siberian cat with a color-point color and blue eyes. Often novice breeders confuse her with a Thai or Siamese breed. They fall in love with a long-haired pet, amazed at his cheerfulness, quick wit, playfulness and color. He gets along with other animals and shows a favor for children, but does not tolerate impudence from strangers.
Origin
The history of the Neva Masquerade Cat began in the 20th century. The breed is young (in 1992 it was recognized by international organizations, and in 2009 - by WCF and FIFE), but popular. Felinologists from St. Petersburg are the authors of the poetic name of the breed. In the winter of 1988, the first cat show was held in the Northern capital of Russia. Then the unusual color of the Siberians surprised the jury members. After the exhibition, they were studied, and a year later they were engaged in breeding.
Due to the fact that everything happened in the city on the Neva, the first word in the name of the breed is "Neva", and the second appeared due to the presence of a mask on the face in the eye area, similar to a masquerade.
There is a version that the Nevaki (as the breed is popularly called) is the result of crossing the Siamese and Siberian breeds.
The latter lived in Siberia for centuries since the time of Peter the Great, was considered aboriginal and gave birth to many modern semi- and long-haired breeds.
Peculiarities
The Nevaks have their own characteristics. They stand out for their large size and correct proportions. The cat weighs 9, and the cat weighs 5-6 kilograms. From the Siberian, the pet inherited good health, a powerful rectangular torso and the same chest, powerful legs, well-developed muscles, a beautiful tail.
The animal has a large trapezoidal head. He has a wide rounded forehead, dense cheeks, a strong-willed chin, huge slanting eyes of the color of heavenly blue (from light blue to sapphire), in harmony with the body, and a nose with a soft transition. His ears are medium in size. They are rounded and slightly inclined towards the forehead. If they have brushes and brushes at the ends, then these are the true standards of the breed.
From the "Siberian" the cat got a long smooth fur. She has a dense double undercoat, a chic "collar" that frames the memorable face in the "carnival" mask. The frill is there until the pet sheds. The wool is hydrophobic. It repels dirt and water, looks beautiful and clean regardless of the season.
Breeders with allergies are wary of hairy pets. However, if we turn to the chemical processes in the human body, then the allergy is caused not by the hair of the animal, but by the FEL D1 proteins.
They are found in saliva and remain on the coat after licking. They are not in the saliva of the Neva Masquerade Cat. Therefore, the owners have nothing to fear.
Colors
It is impossible to predict what kind of color a kitten of this breed will have. He is born without spots and stripes. Only a few weeks after birth, the points will appear on the coat. Unlike the Siberian cat, the Neva Masquerade cat has a different coat color. She is color point or Siamese. Eye color makes the cat look more elegant. The table below will help you understand which colors are more common and which are less.

Seal point
The animal has a black-brown muzzle, tail, ears and paws. It stands out against the almost white, light gray or cream color, in which most of the body is painted. Regardless of the color of the body, the contrast with the points remains.
Seal tabby point
On the paws, tail and muzzle there are seal-point stripes of chocolate shade, and the main coat is ivory. According to the observation of felinologists, over the years, color-point breeds darken their color, but do not lose their beauty.
At the exhibitions, the members of the jury give high marks to nevacs with snow-white fur. Its snowy shade persists only until a certain age, and then changes to dark.
There are two reasons for such changes: the first is irreversible, and the second is reversible.
- Physiology. Over the years, the guard hair becomes stiffer, and the undercoat, formed by thinner and softer hairs, is always light.
- Molting. When a cat sheds, it sheds its undercoat. Therefore, nothing softens the darker shade of the guard hair. As soon as the undercoat is restored, the coat of the Nevak becomes lighter.
Blue point
Blue-point cats have intense blue eyes, while points are blue-gray. The main wool of a cold range of ivory. The lighter it is, the stronger the contrast.
Blue tabby point
Nevaks of this color have stripes on the muzzle and legs, and their eyes are bright blue.
Red point and red tabby point
Breeders will be lucky if their pet has one of these colors. Both are rare. The animal has red points, and the body is pure white or slightly golden. The redder the points, the bottomless and bluer the eyes look.
Tortoiseshell
When colored tortie point (another name) only cats have patterns on their fur, formed by black and red spots. Ears, muzzle, tail and legs are darker. Red spots are difficult to spot on the ears and heels of a young cat, but as the cat grows older, they increase in size and change shape. There are no two similar "tortoiseshell" Nevaks.
Silver point
Cats with colors of seal-silver-point, red-silver-point or blue-silver-point, although they are bred, are almost never seen at exhibitions.
Red silver tabby point
There is no cat in the world with such a color (the fur casts a silver tinge, and the bottom of the hair is white), but it is not excluded theoretically.
Color point with white
Regardless of the type of coloring, white spotting is observed in cats. It is focal and each manifests itself in a different way. Some have it on their paws and nose, while others have it on their tail.
Cats of the Neva Masquerade breed are charming and adorable, regardless of color.
