Graceful, sophisticated cats have gained immense popularity among breeders from all over the world. A special place is given to the oriental cat. This breed is distinguished by a chic variety of colors. In addition, graceful pets have funny protruding ears and an expressive mysterious look.

Features of the breed

Oriental history is closely related to the Siamese cat. They are her closest relatives, but they have a number of distinctive features. Hot Thailand is considered the homeland of the oriental cat. For a long time this breed could not win the love of breeders from other countries. They liked Siamese cats. Only American specialists are interested in this unusual breed. Thus, As a result of lengthy breeding work, an oriental cat of various colors was bred. In Russia, unusual animals appeared at the end of the 80s of the last century.

Note that today Oriental cats are allowed to cross with Siamese and Balinese cats.

Specific traits

As we have already said, Oriental and Siamese breeds belong to the same group, however, they have a number of differences. Siamese black and white cat with blue eyes is known for its peculiar color. He has “chocolate” paws, tail, ears and muzzle, and his body is light. The color of the Siamese is called "point" - finished. Oriental cats do not have such features, they can be attributed to monochromatic Siamese cats... In most cases, they are short-haired, but there are individuals with long hair.

Orientals can be seen from afar. These are graceful, purebred blue-blooded cats. Their characteristic features include the following.

  1. Slender long legs with neat paws.
  2. Wedge-shaped head, sharp cheekbones and rounded chin.
  3. Elongated spout.
  4. Wide rounded ears. Kittens resemble funny Cheburashkas.
  5. Strong muscular body.
  6. Graceful neck.
  7. Expressive emerald green eyes. There are individuals of white color with eyes of "heavenly" shade.
  8. A slender tail that tapers towards the tip.
  9. Thick shiny coat without undercoat. Fits tightly to the body.

Unlike their Siamese brothers, Oriental cats are friendly and affectionate. They are very fond of small households and do not show aggression. Animals are attached to the owner and love to bask in his lap.

This breed is curious and observant. Even adult pets love outdoor games.

Colors

The colors of this breed are striking in their diversity. Today there are more than 40 options. Also, oriental cats are characterized by stripes and spots that differ from the main color of the coat. So, the most popular colors of cats are as follows.

  • Ebony. Graceful "panther" black color with green eyes. This is one of the most beautiful oriental colors that attracts breeders. The fact is that the cat is completely black, even the nose and legs.
  • Havana... Deep brown cats with traditional emerald eyes. The pets have a milky chocolate shade, while the paw pads and nose are pink. Such orientals are not inferior in popularity to their black relatives.
  • Cinnamon. Proud pets of light brown color. The eyes of the animal have a mysterious green color, and the skin on the nose and paws has a reddish tint. Very delicate and pleasant color.
  • Lilac or lavender... A very original shade, it can be described as a combination of pink and gray. Lilac Orientals are amazingly beautiful cats with bright green eyes and a lilac nose.
  • Faun... A rare beige color, which is very much appreciated by breeders. The tip of the animal's nose and legs are pink, and the eyes are light green in color.
  • Red (or ginger). The animal's coat has a solid color. No drawing. "Red" orientals captivate with their "emerald" eyes and graceful pinkish nose.
  • Tortoiseshell. Interesting color, which implies scattered spots all over the body of the animal. In most cases, this "coloring" is inherent only in females. As a rule, pets with this color have specks of red or cream.
  • White (albino). The animal's coat is completely snow-white and does not have any inclusions. The nose and pads are light pink. Albino kittens up to one year old may have a small colored spot on their head, which disappears with age. This color implies the presence of heterochromia in the animal: one eye is green, the other is blue. This feature attracts breeders.
  • Cream... The delicate pastel color of the cat "pleases" the owner's eye. The mirror of the paws and the nose are, by tradition, pink.

In a special group, it is worth highlighting the colors with a pattern (tabby). Let us denote the following groups.

  • Marble. A very effective color that favorably emphasizes the grace and sophistication of the oriental cat. The animal's fur has a rich pattern that resembles a butterfly (thin lines go from the head to the shoulders). The drawing looks no less beautiful on the pet's body (parallel lines stretch along the back to the tail). On the sides there are volumetric spots framed by circles.
  • Spotted. Orientals of this color are distinguished by the presence of a large number of oval spots. Even the stripe on the back is divided into "circles".
  • Tiger. The breeders of this animal love exotic things, as they have a miniature predator at home. A feature of the color is a thin solid line that runs along the back. The rest of the body is covered with chaotic narrow lines on the sides.
  • Ticked. This color is quite uncommon. The animal's coat, at first glance, has a solid color. But in reality, each hair (along its entire length) is colored with alternating light and dark rings. This color looks amazing.

Also there are oriental cats of "brilliant" color. For example, a tortoiseshell (or lavender) tabby has a silvery base tone. The elements of the pattern are distinguished by clear contrast, the eyes are emerald, and the nose is pink.
