Chantilly-Tiffany is a longhaired cat. Pet lovers will be fascinated by her wonderful character, sharp mind and her indescribable beauty. Cats of this breed get along well with children and other pets, which is another plus. Let's take a closer look today at Chantilly-Tiffany, find out the history of origin, its differences from other cats, as well as the features of care.

Origin story

In the early stages of breeding, professional breeders did not breed this breed. It all started in a rather unusual way. One day Jenny Robinson, who lived in New York, went to a pet store next to her house. There was a couple of wonderful kittens of chocolate color and different sexes. The woman immediately acquired both, named them Shirley and Thomas. When the kittens reached puberty, they gave birth to offspring, exactly the same color as the parents. Then Jenny Robinson continued her business and after a few years she had a rather large cat family.

Miss Robinson understood that her knowledge was not enough to further breed the breed. She started looking for a professional felinologist. The choice fell on Siji Lund, who owned an extensive cattery where Burmese cats were bred. This wonderful woman continued the work of her predecessor. The breeder first introduced the kittens at a major show in New York in 1979, where they were present under the name "Foreign Longhair Cat".

The visitors were fascinated by the new breed, the organizers also did not hide their delight. However, representatives of the International Cat Association demanded to change the name.After a brainstorming session among the kennel workers, a new name was chosen and the Chantilly-Tiffany breed was born. Then work began on the official recognition of the new breed of cats.

Soon there was information that the Chantilly-Tiffany is one of the varieties of Burmese cats, which means that a new breed has not been bred. This dealt a huge blow to the pride of Siji Lund, and after several trials, she completely stopped working on the selection of Chantilly. Only a few years later, the work was resumed, but already by a resident of Canada, Tracy Oraas. She had a lot of work to collect evidence about the absence of a common ancestor of Burmese cats and Chantilly-Tiffany. In the end, she succeeded, she registered her pets in almost all world cat associations.

After that, Tracy Oraas decided to diversify the color of her favorites. Breeds such as:

  • Nibelung;
  • Havana;
  • Somalia;
  • Angora.

Thanks to them, it was possible to diversify the color scheme of Chantilly's wool, while their individuality was not lost. Today this breed is bred mainly in the USA. There are very few nurseries in Europe, but in Russia there are none at all.

Therefore, the price of one kitten reaches $ 500. That is, and this does not include transportation.

Description

Representatives of this breed have a long coat that does not get tangled. The color standard is considered to be chocolate or black, but it can be white, blue, smoky, lilac. The animal itself is slender, the body is elongated, strong, muscle tissue is well developed. However, all this is hidden under a thick layer of wool, which creates a deceptive feeling of a large physique. The weight of cats does not often exceed 5.5 kg. Females are usually smaller than males.

The limbs of Chantilly-Tiffany are long, refined, steady. The muscles of the legs are developed, and the pads on the feet are round and soft. The tail is rather long and fluffy. The head is small, when compared with the body, it is wedge-shaped, the forehead is round and wide, but the chin is quite strong. The cheeks are not prominent, the whiskers are long and well defined. A slight bend can be seen in profile. Ears seem small, set wide apart. Only this is visibility due to the thick and long coat. In fact, the shells are large, located rather deeply at a considerable distance from each other with a slight slope. The tips of the ears are rounded.

The cut of the eyes is oval or almond-shaped, they are wide open, rather large. Eye color has all shades of brown and gold. The eyes are very vulnerable, as they produce large amounts of tear fluid every day, so daily eye care is required. Luxurious and long coat is the main advantage of the breed. She does not fall into mats, does not get dirty, there is no undercoat.

There is a slight peculiarity in its length - it is much longer in the neck and hind legs.

Character traits

Kittens of this breed are very active and curious. They don't sit still for a minute, they play all the time. Their minds are very lively, they easily and quickly get used to the tray, they begin to understand what is allowed and what is not worth doing. They very easily find a common language with children and other pets. In games with younger family members, they are tolerant, never use their claws.

Although Chantilly-Tiffany plays with the whole family, she usually chooses one master for herself, whom she obeys and respects more than others. Adult representatives of the breed continue to play and frolic, but some slowness and laziness appear in them. Increasingly, they can be found on the windowsill, basking in the sun.

They do not like to be at home alone, they often start nasty, so it is best to start Chantilly-Tiffany for those families who have someone at home all the time.

Feeding

Remember that domestic cats tend to be overweight and overeating, so it is necessary to carefully monitor the frequency of meals, which should not exceed 2 times a day. Choose food that your pet likes.

Be sure to make sure that the food is appropriate for the kitten's age, which will allow you not to worry whether your pet is eating or not. Some breeders claim that cats eat dry food well, others say that natural food is preferable. It should be remembered that with a completely natural feed, it is necessary to periodically introduce vitamins, trace elements, plant fibers in the form of raw grass or a special supplement from a veterinary pharmacy into the diet.

The basis of the diet for natural feeding should be lean meat, sea fish, eggs. It is necessary to dilute the menu with cereals, for example, buckwheat, barley, vegetables (zucchini, carrots). Avoid giving your cats starchy vegetables like potatoes, green peas, and boiled beets. Chantilly Tiffany's favorite treat is fruit.

But with confectionery, you need to be very careful, as pets quickly get used to them. They begin to demand a treat, as a result of which they quickly gain weight.

Conditions of detention

Surprisingly, this breed has good health, excellent immunity. The average life expectancy is approximately 15-18 years. Chantilly-Tiffany do not require special conditions of detention. A spacious apartment is enough, a tray with good filling, two bowls (one for water, the other for food). Do not choose plastic dishes, it is best if they are iron products. You need to feed the cats 2 times a day, but change the water as often as possible. Use only raw, filtered liquid. Do not use boiled water.

Take your pet to the vet annually. Do all the required vaccinations in a special room. You should not do this yourself, as you will not be able to assess the health level of your pet, helminth infection. Vaccination can be postponed if the animal is infected with parasites or deworming in the next month.

It is necessary to pay attention to several features of care.

  • Eyes. A large amount of tear fluid requires particularly careful maintenance. Every day it is worth wiping the eyes with cotton pads moistened with water or infusion of tea leaves. Use a separate swab for each eye. When nitrous oxide appears, suppuration of the eyes, you can use tetracycline ointment. If that doesn't work in the next few days, be sure to see your veterinarian. And you should also panic with excessive dryness of the eyes, which indicates a deterioration in the outflow of tear fluid.
  • Ears. They need to be cleaned about once a week. Use cotton swabs, ear lotion.
  • Teeth. Taking good care of your oral cavity will prolong your pet's health. It is necessary to accustom the cat to this procedure from a very young age. Then the kitten will understand that although this is unpleasant, it is quite tolerant, and at an older age he will not run away from you. Ask for a special device at the pharmacy and gently brush your cat's teeth yourself. If your pet categorically refuses this procedure, purchase special dry food and feed it weekly.
  • Wool. We have already mentioned that wool is the main advantage of Chantilly-Tiffany. It does not get dirty, does not fall into tangles, does not require daily combing. However, during the molting period, it is still necessary to use a comb. Cats are prone to eating their own fur, which often leads to gastrointestinal problems. A large hairball can cause malnutrition, constipation, and nausea. Remember that frequent nausea, refusal to eat, and lethargy of your pet indicate that an excessive amount of fur has accumulated in its stomach.

Therefore, purchase a wool-dissolving paste in advance from the pharmacy and use it weekly. And also you need to comb your cat during the molting period - the more often the better. Preferably several times a day.
