Siamese cat personality
The Siamese cat breed has a non-standard color. Dark paws, tail and muzzle with surprisingly blue eyes and black ears stand out against the light background of the body. In Thailand, beauties with a regal bearing were called "moon diamonds". Are cats of this breed really angry and vindictive, as they say about them - let's try to figure it out.
Description
The homeland of Siamese cats was ancient Siam (modern Thailand), where they were considered sacred animals. This breed was kept only by royalty, whose children could not play with their peers. Siamese cats were companions and playmates for them.
These animals were forbidden to be taken out of the country on pain of death, so they were not known in the world until the 19th century. In the 70s of the XIX century, the ruler of Siam presented a couple of animals to the English royal family.
Later they became the progenitors of the entire European population.
Already in 1872, the first representatives of this breed took part in exhibitions. A little later, in 1892, standards were drawn up for them, which allowed a break in the tip of the tail, a rounded head and slight squint. In 1902, the standards were changed, the usual features of the breed were now considered vices.
Siamese cats came to Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century. The ruler of Siam presented several kittens to Nicholas II. Animals of modern standards (with a wedge-shaped head) were brought to the USSR in the 80s of the last century.
Appearance
Today, the Siamese cat breed is widespread in our country, but it is often confused with the Thai population. Representatives of both groups have a characteristic color: a dark muzzle and limbs on a light body, but at the same time they look completely different.To make the differences clearer, let's first take a look at what real Siamese look like.
Outwardly, the cat looks elegant and graceful. She has a refined wedge-shaped head with black pointed ears. Deep blue almond-shaped eyes look serious and meaningful. The torso seems graceful and fragile, but in fact has strong muscles. The limbs are slender, the front legs are shorter than the hind legs. The tail is as thin as a whip. The weight is balanced, girls weigh 4-5 kg, boys 5-6 kg.
There is a black mask on the cat's face, the same color on the legs and tail.
Kittens are born completely white. Black wool grows later on them, so in places where it should appear, a delicate pink skin shines through.
The coat of an adult Siamese cat is short, silky, has a different shade: almost white, beige, brown, golden, smoky.
In the UK, animals with 18 types of colors are allowed to the exhibitions, in the USA - only with four.
Difference from Thai breed
It is easy to distinguish the Siamese from the Thai breed, you just have to take a closer look:
- the Siamese have a wedge-shaped head with large ears, the Thais have a round head, ears of normal size;
- the eyes of the Thais are round, and the eyes of the Siamese are almond-shaped;
- the limbs of the Siamese are long and thin, which cannot be said about the Thais, who, in general, are down-to-earth, far from grace;
- Thais have a fairly normal short-haired tail, while Siamese have a thin and long tail.
Character and behavior
Having studied many reviews about Siamese cats, you understand that people have developed an ambiguous, even diametrically opposite attitude towards them, that is, you will not find more contradictory reviews in the description of any other animal breed. This is due to the complex (in a good sense of the word) character of Siamese cats. They are very smart, energetic, unpredictable. Animals can fully accept the lifestyle of people and repeat it, considering all family members to be big cats or identify themselves with humans.... You can talk to an animal and count on understanding. Each of them has a distinctive, multifaceted, formed character, with its own habits and characteristics. It is always interesting and fun with Siamese, as with full-fledged family members. They are very loyal, they do not get used to the house, like all cats, but to the owner, like dogs. The family in which the Siamese live is very important to them.
Reading reviews describing Siamese cats as jealous, angry, vengeful, wayward creatures, you notice that they were written not by the owners of the cats, but by the friends of the owners, guests of families with Siamese cats, or just rumors. That is, people who watched him not from the inside, but from the side. Guests in a family with a Siamese cat cannot get the usual feline affection. They are alarmed by the meaningful, serious look of animals. They are frightened by a cat that hid, hid, and then jumped out of nowhere and threw herself at their feet. Such a pet trick seems scary to them, but only the owners know that the cat is just playing hide and seek. And it is more interesting for her to do this with guests, because they do not yet know her hidden places.
A Siamese cat should not be gotten by people with small children or those who are always busy. Being alone and going about your business with such a pet is unlikely to work.
A cat can be the perfect companion for growing up children, teenagers, or those who can spend a lot of time with it. In families with small children, children are always in the spotlight, and the Siamese cat itself prefers to be this “center”. Teenagers are happy to play outdoor games with Siamese on equal terms, thereby developing them. The inventive mind of cats often helps them to emerge victorious in games. It will hide so that you cannot find it, and then it will jump out of the hiding place unexpectedly, then it will grab the toy first and run away, offering to run after it. Likes to jump to the high-raised hand of the owner. But it is also capable of deceiving, looking at the raised right hand and with all its kind, gaining acceleration, unexpectedly grabs the left one, which simply weighs along the body and is closer to it.
Siamese, living in a loving family, and not seeing other animals, completely repeat the way of life of people. They like to sleep not rolled up in a ball, but in the owner's position - the head is on a pillow, the body is covered with a blanket. If the family is eating dinner, a chair should be provided for the cat. She will not crawl into a plate or beg for food, but she will tactfully sit with everyone. Coming from work or school, the animal must be given attention. Otherwise, it will follow on the heels, rumbling loudly and "telling" how it was waiting and bored.
You can not offend Siamese cats, they are smart, sensitive, susceptible, for a while they can withdraw and become depressed. Some believe that the cat has vengeful habits, she is capable of breaking dishes, tearing curtains to show her displeasure. Aggressive revenge of the animal in the form of night attacks on the owner is a myth. Siamese are very affectionate and loving animals, but they have their own opinion and their own character, and just want to be reckoned with.
Are cats angry?
The opinion of Siamese cats as evil and vindictive animals is very primitive, the situation needs to be dealt with much deeper. Angry cats can be of any breed, it depends on two factors: the character obtained at birth and acquired as a result of improper upbringing. Siamese cats are no more born with an evil temperament than representatives of any other breed.... They must be brought up calmly and respectfully, because, having a good intellect, unlike other cats, they understand that they have offended them unfairly.
By the way, animals can be irritable during sexual instability or painful conditions. Castration helps, as well as proper treatment.
There is another reason why there is a misconception about the bad nature of the breed. A self-respecting breeder, taking care of his image, will not continue the population from evil animals. Unfortunately, in the 90s of the last century, rejected lots of Siamese cats ended up on our markets. Despite some difficulties in the characters of the arrived foreign animals, cats with intelligence and devotion to dogs were interesting to people, they were happily kept in families. Perhaps the myths about vengeful animals were formed during this period. The owners of Siamese cats consider them smart, real feline "personalities", with their own opinions, which have to be reckoned with, but in no way angry and aggressive.
As already noted, such reviews are written about them by outside observers who are not directly related to the life of animals.
Advantages and disadvantages
Summing up, we can draw conclusions about the merits and demerits of the Siamese breed. It is worth noting that the pros and cons associated with these animals will depend on how they are perceived by the person himself. For example, qualities such as activity, curiosity, excessive attachment, annoy one, and touch the other. But we will attribute them to positive manifestations of character, and those people who are annoyed by the energy and love of a pet, in general, should not have animals. So - the advantages:
- good intelligence and irrepressible curiosity;
- "Dog's" loyalty, love and care for its owner;
- beautiful original appearance;
- ease of care and feeding;
- kittens are priced relatively inexpensively, anyone can afford to buy a pet;
- long-livers breed - live 15-20 years;
- belong to a healthy type of cats with good immunity;

The disadvantages of the Siamese include the following:
- they love to be in the spotlight, and they don't need competitors such as small children and other pets;
